Abe Babe has permission from Sydney to use her old designs from the early incarnations of the Oddworld Forums, namely those that were hosted by ezBoard. While the Forums have been down and being transfered to the new server, the temporary ezBoard that was set up used this, Sydney's 'Munch's Oddysee' theme, so it surprises me you're all of a sudden surprised. I guess you may just have been away in the past week, which would be a very amusing anecdote, I suppose.

This design is a lot more fast-loading, and can be used by people with slow connections. For those with more fancy tastes, the Industrial theme and an updated Native theme will be able to be chosen. However, Abe Babe mentioned the transfer feature for these between vB2 and vB3 is inadequate or non-existant, hence she is having to re-create them.

While this design is faster than the old design, I know of forums some ten times larger than this, that have far superior graphics and color schemes, that still load even faster than this one does.

Conclusion: This forum is hosted on a crap server.

It's still better than the last server, so we're on the way up. It's not like it even particularly matters. I'm bored of the way society keeps damanding faster things. Obviously with the tediously slow there's some justification, but since these pages are opening in just a couple of seconds, there's no reason to complain.

I like this design still just because it reminds me of when I first joined a couple years back. I'll have to see once the native and industrial are back up which ones I like the best.

This style was used for a good while, and nobody ever complained. Then again, you're justified to. Perhaps, if it could actually be worked out, you could help create a design to your choosing. Eh?

No, we are not on a super fast server. We are on a shared server, and not a dedicated one. Meaning, our CPU and server load is shared with other people. We simply could not afford to host the OWF on a dedicated. $100+ US is already outrageous, but we live in Australia, and our currency isn't exactly helping us any in this matter.

This is good, because it does what we need it to do.

Hey, I'm not complaining. It loads fast for me, so I'm happy. It's better than it was.

And the Sydney theme is just fine, although I'm swithcing back to Industrial as soon as it comes back!

Anyway, instead of complaing...I'm going to give Alcar and Abe Babe a little round of applause.

Supression has nothing to do with it. I personally CANT supress others opinions, yet in other conversations you have spoken to me as though I have already done so.

People can complain about the style, but Miss Odd was stating the point that we did indeed work hard to get the forums back online. I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't lash out at everyone and anyone, especially when they gave you the courtesy to not name call.

Negative comments about the style are welcome, it's simply a matter of constructive critisism. But when you have a generally pesimistic and negative person who can only comment on the negative side of things, you can't expect to be taken in all seriousness.

Death is entitled to his opinion I agree we should be grateful and I am, and I like this old style like I said it just reminds me of the old days. and all the new features of VB.3 and the quicker load times.

Although I still do have a lot of respect for Death trying to help us before we decided to change the server, with him trying to ban the ips of some of those people spamming the server.

It may not be a popular view, regardless hes still entitled to it.

I actually completely agree with Oddguy here.

Every single thing about OWF annoys me for some reason. It's a habit I'll do my best to get out of.

We can't please you can we? We get off the old server and you still tell us we are on a crap one.

I don't know why we would even need a faster server anyways. We are a small community with most users being on a dial up connection. It doesn't matter how fast the server is ... if your connection is slow, it ain't going to load up any faster.

A dedicated server is fine for a site that has a community that has hundereds of members posting a day ... but we have such a small active member base.

Anyways, I'm on cable and it takes like 2-3 seconds to load a page up now. Why the hell would I want it to load the page up in 1 second. I'm not exactly counting the load times here.

Oh ... and please don't abuse people when they are nice ... it's pretty mean picking on a 13 year old like that. I thought your complaints about this place in the past consisted of telling people they weren't being nice.

I love the new connection speed as it is because I have DSL, and when the server was loading slow, it felt like I was on a 56 K modem.

OK yes I appreciate that, but all I am saying is, don't whinge about this sites' theme having to be crap because it needs to load faster. The theme is not to blaim. It's the server.

I wasn't "picking" on anyone. I was having a go at hobo, because I find hobo to be the most irritating ass on earth.

If I insulted anyone, accedentally, or purposefully, then I apologise. My intention wasn't to hurt you, but to get you to shut up and see the issue rather than the argument. Short sightedness ruins this world and pisses me off more than anything, so if you could just give me a chance, I'd like to help.

To just jump in and add my two pennorth, I rather like the forums as they are now. While the Industrial design was nice and I can appreciate how much time was spent on it, it was rather too cluttered for my taste. I mean, this is supposed to be a forum, right? For the purpose of sharing ideas etc? What does it matter how many flashy buttons and blinky smilies and so on there are? The more you put onto a page the more distracting it gets (and that's WITHOUT those bloody huge signatures some people allow on some forums - you know the ones, they're about three screens long, and if a person only posts one line of text like "yea lol!!!11"... *pulls at hair*).

This one might be simple, but hey, you can actually READ the content without having to try to pick it out from the background. I suppose that's the one advantage of ezboard, it didn't matter how much you muck about with the backdrop the actual content boxes stayed pretty much the same, ie clean, clear and obvious.

(On a sidenote, I'm still on the Uni server, and the Industrial theme took an age to load up the first times I'd visit the forums some days - and we're on LAN and broadband, so far as I can tell. If we go back to that I'm dreading how long it'd take to load up if/when I finally get net access of my own, since I wouldn't be able to afford anything but the barest minimum of stuff. But that's by the by.)

So yay, this forum style goood - clean, stylish and neat. Keep it keep it! *does puppy eyes*
