Happy The Art contest! submission thread!

I have decided I am not going through with an art request thread because it wouldn't have worked plus it would get in my way with my more important things that I need to get done. Like other illustraitions and things that are for school. It would conflict with my scheduel. Anyway instead, to go along with Al's Contest ideas I figured lets get these contests rolling now.

This is "The OWF Art Contest" submit your wounderous works of art here and at the end of every single month there will be a vote from all of us on who the winning artist should be for that month. And well that winner will get recognised for his or her work. And how you may ask you will be recognised? Well your work will be put into another thread known as the "OWF Art Museum". This will be the place where everyone can go in and just view the gallery of winning artwork we produce. You won't be able to reply in the gallery since thats what its ment for. Viewing purposes that is. So I will keep that one closed and I will keep editing it and building the museum as time goes on. Oh and I am also excepting non Oddworld aswell. Right at this moment I am the Judgeing art director which means I will tally all of our votes at the end of the month and pick the winner based on our votes. if anyone wants they can help me out in being a judge. Just PM me if you want and I will give you the details. If you have any other questions about this please let me know via PM. don't ask in this thread this thread is specifially for your artwork to be voted for. Voteing starts the last week of each month and ends that week even if it goes into the next month, where the winner will be anounced by me based on our votes. This thread is to post your work and to vote. When you vote send your votes via PM. The first batch of runnerup artwork will Start now and be for November. If you have an idea for artwork do it and post it here to get it voted for and maybe it will be a winner for the gallery.

Here is the steps to follow if you want to be in this:
1st submit your work here through attachment or whatever: I am excepting submissions all the way up until the beginning of the last week of the Month. Anything afterwords will go to the following month.

2nd Then wait until the last week of the month to start voteing. Start sending me votes during the last week of the month.

At the end of the last week I will tally our votes and announce the winner where I will put into the Museum. Thats all you do submit now and vote at the end of the month. Two easy steps to get into the contest. Its that easy.

Thankyou
Paramiteabe...

Im glad the submission thread has been put up, but as far as the hall of fame thing so far. Im going to just get rid of it for the time being. The reason for the details not being completely worked out yet, is partly due to my absense(which was out of my control). But theres no need for the thread until we really have our winners. PA If you wish we can discuss this further later tonight or tomorrow. I just need to reinstall MSN messenger(it was gone along with all my other computer programs). We also need to figure how our site can fit into the categories. So if your wondering why the Hall of fame thread is missing, dont worry Ill repost it sometime soon before the first winners are announced.

Im thinking about letting you run the art portion for now. And I will start the fan fiction contests. Which will also be showcased somehow. Sort of like a Story of the month.

Sincerely, Al

aaah! Hi!

I'm really late, I'm sorry.
Too much to do for school.
Well, I try to come over once a week, if I get time enough. Monday is a perfect day because I have to stay longer at school as usual.
Um, I sometimes thought about the look of this contest. But the idea of paramiteabe sounds really great! I just hope that many artists around here are interested in it. If it is okay, I can help voting. If you need advice, or if you like to contact me, could you send me an e-mail? My adress is here

Thank you for listening...eh, reading.

Your (hurried and stressed) Alector

Sure Alector you can be a judge with me on this. Though we havent gotten any artwork yet I will keep waiting. If nothing happens by the last week of November then onto December.

As of now we have no winner for November artwork yet. Comeon people lets see your stuff! Remember people post your work in this thread if you want it to be voted for at the end of each month. When you vote send your votes through PM.

Thankyou

I finally finished my drawing. It is depicting a concept I came up with a while back about prehistoric Glukkons. Well, I thought it only natural for a Glukkon to swing from trees......I mean, their arms are huge and there feet are so small, it seemed like a perfect relationship. Well, here it is. I hope you guys like it.

Also on a lighter note I am accepting non Oddworld art. And I am accepting more than one piece. so if you want to put in more than one piece then go right ahead. if you do it increases your chance of winning. Also you can add in the same piece but if you do that it has to be done in different styals or mediums. So Oddguy can put in the same picture and but he would have to do it in a different styal and medium.

I baseing the winner off of how well he or she can approach subject matter in different styals and mediums. Mediums in the sense of what you do your work in. Like paint, crayon, pencil, charcol, pen and ink, color pencel, construction paper, wood burning etc etc. that is what medium means. Also you don't have to be just realistic. You can impressionistic, surealistic, show movement, make it cartoony, realistic, abstract etc etc. I am baseing the winner of that month off of how well he or she can approach artwork differently like that. Mainly do your work in different styals and then you got it. thats all.

Thankyou

Well, here it is. It's a speed painting done in photoshop and inspired by Craig Mullins (though I'm a puny worm compared with his skills). If you want to know what I'm talking about, visit www.goodbrush.com.

I'm still learning how to use the program and getting used to drawing with a mouse. Anyway, I used the Abe's Oddysee booklet as a colour reference.

I still need some practice at creating ambient light effects and reflected light (and a WACOM tablet would be a lot of help)... but so far it's the best one I've produced.

Well that's enough of my ramblings...

This painting is going to take a HUGE chunk out of my bandwidth.

Great work people keep em comming. I only need two more in order for us to vote for this month. each month there has to be a minumum of 5 pieces in order for a voteing campaign to comence at the end of the month. So just two more. Keep in mind it doesn't have to be Oddworld eather. It can be anything you like. Heck it can be a drawing of a car or painting of a landscape. Speaking of paintings I like to take the time and show off my latest painting. Its of the ocean in Howaii. Plus it was my first time I ever painted ocieans. Now don't count this one because I am the acting judge so my work won't count. I just want to post it to give you guys and girls some cool inspiration from me. Take a look.

I kinda like the way your painting looks as though it was taken with a camera set on a long exposure...

I can't say it's really my style of art (or my sort of subject) but I can certainly see some real talent there.

I generally do different kinds of paintings and styals. This is only a landscape or seascape painting. Any artist can whip these kind of paintings up within a 1 to 2 days. There easy to do. I concentrate most of my work generally in the fantasy and science fiction catagory. Surealistic art like Giger and Farzad etc are mainly the kind of work I love to do. Infact I literally created my own Universe and myth and story and well I want to make a story out of my myth and create an art book based upon my stories.

But as for the pic its just to show you an example of some of my talent. But I can assure you its not the full scope of my talent. Its only tiny piece of what I can really do. Lets just say I can wild when it comes to my Illustraitions.

I mostly paint starships. No, not the silly kind you see on star trek that are shaped like saucers, I'm talking about REAL starships. Like the one I've attatched...

I might take the time to scan in one of my starship drawings later.

Whoa PA! That is one beautiful landscape painting. VERY inspirational. Great use of colour... I can't imaging how it looks if it didn't lose that much picture quality after you took the photo. Time to modify my list of favourite artists .

Heh, lucky for the rest of us you ain't entering that into the contest... if you had, then:

ParamiteAbe: 1242 votes
Canned_Gabbiar: 0

And then over the coming months:

Winner In July: PA
Winner In August: PA
etc.

Heh

Anyway, another speedpainting. Nothing compared to PA's beach. I still need a LOT of practice with photoshop... and basically painting in general.

Death, Read my post carefully... I was merely giving an exaggerated example of what might have happened had PA entered his landscape painting. I was NOT voting. Just "fortune-telling". I used the words

"...if you had, then:

ParamiteAbe: 1242 votes
Canned_Gabbiar: 0 ..."

If I had voted, I would have just said one name. And plus, I can't vote yet since not everyone has finished their entries. Also, I have looked at your entry. It's a pretty cool starship.

The starship wasn't my entry, the starship was an example of the sort of subjects I paint, and that wasn't even one of the paintings, it was a model.

If you had looked through this thread properly you would've noticed that my entry was in fact the FeeCo locomotive, which I posted further up.

And I was not suggesting that you were in fact voting, I was stating that your "fortune telling" wasn't really a fair estimation - even if it was only a joke. Everyone who has submitted in this thread has worked really hard on what they've entered and it's an insult to just favour one artist over the rest when you haven't even taken a proper look at all the other entries.

Actually, I was insulting myself more than anyone, which is be why I haven't put anybody else's names down. I put a big zero next to my own name. It's just my opinion that PA's painting would win.

Also, I already looked at the feeco locomotive sketch (which is pretty cool... like a concept design or something). It just slipped my mind when I was posting. I've read everybody's posts. I just assumed that you created that 3-D model of the starship in 3-D studio Max or something like that and that it was another submission.

But I'd rather forget about it if it really offended you that much. If it did, then I apologise.

Ok, all of that was off topic but I'll make this post relevant by posting a sketch of padme (or natalie portman) in Star Wars Episode 1. You will notice that I made the top part of her headpiece up (cause the reference photo had the top chopped off and my sketch just looked "incomplete" without the top. Also, I think I'll take out the dragon sketch.. I don't like it anymore.

BTW, nice work carbon. Got an nice abstract feel to it.

Canned Gabiar keep your Dragon and Glukkon paintings in. Because they actually are really good for the styal you did them in. Ive noticed in those two paintings your styal and approach reminded me of a famious artist known as Francis Bacon. He did a lot of Oil Paintings that looked real obscured and out of shape and blury just like your paintings. Thats peer art. In my artistic opinion you seemed to master that styal. So far you have shown your artistic ability to be deverse. You shown your ability to master the abstract styal of Francis Bacon and then did a drawing portrait of Amadala which shows me you've also mastered drawing realistically. That drawing is almost if not correctly the same as what she really looks like. You have a good eye.

Now remember people this art contest is not based on how detailed or real your work is. I mean some artist great artist can draw just as well abstract as oppose to realistic. If you think its the looks then your not going to win because thats not what this is about. Its about how professional you are at what you do best. I want everyone to be free with what they do. Death your model is part of this contest too it shows your ability to take drawings and construct 3D models from. That too is a styal. Thats professionalism for ya you too are deverse in your own paticular approach to art.

Remember don't worry about how real you can make your work because I might choose a winner who does abstract work based upon the votes and the composition. This is suppose to be fun not a war on who does the most greatest work. Thats not being a professional artist so play with this have fun and put some spirit into your work be wild mann! I am giveing you guys the opertunity to take what you do best to the next level. And that my friends is being a professional. So have fun.

Voteing starts next week. any new entries starting Sunday next week will go for the month of January.

Thankyou
Paramiteabe...

Speaking of which I edited the same picture I post earlier and made it brighter. Me and my stupid self forgot about the flash when I took the first one. So here is the same picture different angle and brighter with a better view of the colors. Once again don't vote for this one.

Wow! I haven't looked at this thread in a while, so I had some good art to look at. Great work everyone! I especially want to congratulate Canned Gabbiar. I nearly pissed my pants in sheer amazement when I saw that Molluk painting! And Padme looked great. I want to comment on how you did a great job on her eyes. Oh, and Death....your FeeCo train and starship are great. You could work for OWI. I feel somewhat envious towards how good all your work is. I still have a way to go. Anyway, here's a painting I did. It's my first one, so don't laugh. Plus, I couldn't get the whole painting to fit on the scanner....the canvas is too big. Don't enter it in the contest.

Damnit I need a bigger scanner! All my really cool paintings are huge!

This is gunna sound a little dumb but I was trying to figure out how to scan in my spaceship model! I was like "Damn that's not gunna fit", then I realised "oh, yeah, digital camera!". D'oh!

I'm gunna try and find my professional watercolor set and do you all a nice A4 sized starship landscape - I'm especially good at painting scenes where big black starships are landing on an alien world as the sun is setting. These take a while to do, cause there is lots of detail involved, so keep the competition from going to votes till I upload it.
