Share your opinions about MO--proz and cons...

I'm really depressed lately, because ever since I beat Exoddus, I have been obsessed with MO...

And now...It just ain't living up to my expectations..

I feel that this is going to be the Phantom Menace type deal...

AO was amazing, AE was alright, MO... To me it seems like a flop.

Sorry but, "Hey, fart breath, take this!"
In that new MO movie preview...
And Munch's hopping sound?

And the Fuzzles..... frig the fuzzles...
Flying through the air and looking all polygonal.....

Someone--pull me through this.

Yeah, Munch is more a action game than a reflection game like AO and AE. It's too fast. it's like a rungame like MadDach Racing

I liked Oddworld

because it was mystical...

You can't put Jar Jar Binks slapstick junk and have it successfully mix with Odd's atmosphere..

Some parts look amazing.. But frig..
I don't understand why they can't just let a great thing be....

oddworld seems to be slipping more away from me. It doesn't have the same feelling like a queer, lurky, humerous, unimaginable and creative game. Now its like freaking spyro the dragon!
If you look at the cover you can see green. LIGHT green! whats up with that, the games gone gay.
Also the fact that oddwqorld showed us their evil money hungering side of the damn sobe invitation!

SODD YOU NOT ALONE!

In AO--there was very little slapstick junk..

The closest I saw to slapstick
was when Abe got hit in the head with the pipe while on the barrel ride,
or when he fell down the cliff towards bigface..

They gotta realize that there fans aren't ALL 3-4 year olds.
Because in AO, the "Cha ching" sound when the Slig says, "Promotion!"
And now, "Hey--fart breath, take this!"
Man--what are they on..

But you can't judge a book by a mere few MPEGS and AVIS... I'm sure they'll still be the same old, mystical Oddworld appeal in there....

NIce to know I ain't alone btw

"Hey - fart breath, take this!"

Where's that from?

I agree, totally, and, since there's not really much more I can think of adding to the topic generally, will simply keep agreeing.

It certainly does appear that MO is turning out to be a differnt kind of game than the last two. But listening to your opinions reminds me of listening to people who bitch about how thier favorite band sold out. All i have to say is that if it pisses you off, don't buy the game and make it known to the company why you're not buying (write Alf and tell him about it). the only way to let a company know that what they're doing is pissing you off, is to not support thier product. So i propose this: if what OWI has done with what THEY created displeases you, then make damn sure not to buy the game and play it. DO NOT try to have an open mind.....at all. and remember that if you can do better, we would all love to see you try.

Conzumah make's a great point. And while I also agree to a point that it seems a lot of the whimsical or mystical feel has dissapeared to a point. As if the game has gone to a more mainstream side of gaming. As if it's trying to bend for the mass'es more.

It seems that not enough "NEW" characters/creatures have been introduced after such a long time in development with Munch. Sure a few more, but not at all what I would have hoped for.

As for locations, well for a world that is said to be ten times the size of Earth 300 thousand miles, it seems that most of the so-called new game will be taking place in the places of the first two games, but in 3D now. A nice idea, but I sure hope we get more of some of the other 300.000 miles. They can say the Oddworld universe is infinite, but they have to show more of it and back this statement. I know that more will be shown in up-coming games, but as of now up-coming games are useless to talk of. We have waited for years already, I want new locations now, not all of Oddworld, but at least half the game should be new locations along with new visits in 3D of old Oddworld games.

Also instead of getting new creatures and characters, it seems we are getting cuts, such as where is ELUM. Will Elum be back?

But don't forget that we "will" be getting more as well. Much more advanced "Gamespeak", great visuals, stealth in 3d. Munch and all his abilities. Well the game does offer a lot more, but still it seems a bit off somehow. Still I eagerly await the game this November 15th. I will reserve my final and overall judgement until I actually get into it.

One more point is that it does seem most people here have stated that a lot of the mystical feel of the game has dissapeared. I agree, but I also think that it is because of the movies shown they are going for a more Quick fix, a more bang for your buck arcade look into the game. They cannot show the more complex puzzles evolve in a shorter type movie. The essence of Oddworld is the mystical feel and moving around in a stealth mode and using your brains, in the videos they are showing the all out action, you get more for the little time of showing movies. I believe that when said and done the game will have that old Oddworld gameplay of fun and mystical feel.

If the game were jut run and run around like a chicken without a head collecting items it would be a real downer.

I just love that sneaking, and plotting, and occasional possesing with action. It seems that the game will have it all. But I do admit that the game seems a bit off somehow, but deep down I do believe in the long run all that has made Oddworld games great will be in this game.

We will see very soon, won't we?

Maybe we feel that Oddworld's gone gay because usually oddworld comes out after the other and we haven't played it in a while. All we can do is talk about it now.

Well I remember I awhile back ago that in an interview with Oddworld Inhabitants they said that they wern't pleased with the final product of AE and that it wasn't like the first. So hopefully Oddworld Inhabitants hasn't forgot the mystical side of Oddworld. Also Lorne Lanning said in another interview that the Oddworld Quintology will be very, very dark and evil so theres another glimmer of hope that Oddworld Inhabitants has not lost its touch, because up till now all we have basicly seen is one kinda enviorment and not many factorys.

and
cool, i can only name 1 series of games that has actually been released (properly) for a console or PC which has gay/bi main char(s)...Fear Effect...
i've always wanted to do some research to see if that percentage of games/books/whatever that feature gay/bi main characters reflects the actual demographic...hmm, something to put on my todo list...anyone got any info?, i'm always bored...

You probably shouldn't make your final opinions about the game based on a couple of movies and a demo. These aren't full representations of the final version. Wait until you can rent the final version and really try it before you make up your mind about it. Things could still change between now and the release.

Hold your breath, because I completely agree with those comments, Steel Shark.

Have a look at the Shrink video for Abe's Oddyssey - we see fast, rapid death shots and explosions...enough to impress people during the short commercial space, but barely sufficient to even scratch the game's surface.

Videos and screenshots can't do justice to some types of gameplay - especially with stealth or puzzle games like Commandos and Thief. I just hope we get as many chances to possess high-level Oddworld creatures as we did in Abe's Exoddus, but, like you said, we'll find out soon...

Yeah, I don't think that Oddworld will suck, but from the demo and videos it kind of looks this way. It just looks like another platformer where you run around collecting stuff. I think, like Steel Shark said, that all the more complex things (possesion, stealth, Gamespeak) were left out of the demo and or video because it would confuse the general audience. But those are really the high points of the game. I remember when I was playing the Munch demo people were like "That's a stupid kid's game. You just run around collecting stuff. Let's play Dead or Alive 3". I hope that as we get closer and closer OI makes up for its rather disappointing demo with alot of screenshots and movies detailing the more 'thinking' side of MO.

Oy...I'm surrounded by comedians...

Anywho...I just hope MO will be the game everyone is expecting it to be. I have to admit though...some of those videos I've seen reminded me of Super Mario 64...or one of the Turok series (the running around and collecting bit).
I pray Lorne and his fellow creators don't run dry of ideas before the series is complete...

Pretty shocking Luxo. The only bad thing about that is now I cannot ever say again that you have dissagreed with "EVERYTHING" I have ever said.

Dragadon: I see your point, and concerns to be well founded. However another issue and one even more on the scary side is will Oddworld remain at least close to its roots as a very original and unique game. I believe to a point yes. But sometimes a series can turn to that "LETS GET TO THE MAIN STREAM PEOPLE MORE ATTITUDE". That would be a shame and crime. A real rape of what the series really is about.

I believe when the game is actually finished and played through that we will get that "MYSTICAL" feel back that we love from past Oddworld games. The arcade like gameplay we have seen has been more for the "QUICK FIX" or demo's and movies. But once in the game that good ol' puzzle solving and stealth and brain twisting gameplay will be back, It had better be, because if not that would be a true loss.

So here's to thinking positive and hoping things "WILL" work out for the best.
