Oddworld Final Fantasy Music!

By seemingly popular demand in another post, here is the Final Fantasy music thread! Seems there are a few of us on here who enjoy the music of Final Fantasy. I thought I was the only one on here, looks like I was wrong.

So post all of your FF music favorites (or dislikes) here. What do you like about the music, how'd you get into it?

I'll post a list of favorites later on (warning it's very long). But I'll start off by saying how I got into it. It all started with One Winged Angel. Back when I first played FFVII, I really enjoyed that song, it fitted the final battle nicely and I just really got into it. Probably a month or so after, I started downloading some midi files of songs of FFVII and was listening to them. The followed all of the midis from FFIX, as that game was just out. I think the more I listened to, the more I got hooked. Now I have a playlist of over 400 songs (over 22 hours) in mp3 format, and I have many of the CDs.

Why do I like the music? Because I'm a FF fan. Not really, there's more to it. I used to be into metal and hard rock, but I guess as I got older, my tastes changed. Final Fantasy music has so much variety to it. There are slow and beautiful songs, upbeat and fast songs, or songs with a good mid-tempo. There are also many different styles covered, and all sound great in their own way. Nobuo Uematsu is simply a talented composer, who can create music that not only fits the games well, but also is listenable on it's own.

Abe Babe...

Hmm.. How did I become 'obsessed' with FF music. Well, it happened about the same way as Abe Babe. I really liked the Aeris theme (beautiful song with that excellent flute/piccolo in between sections) and the music used whenever you fight a boss(some kick-ass techno!).

I also liked that song Birth Of A God (is that the name?) and that song used when you fight the final form of Jenova (forgot the name of the song). The mix of digitally generated notes and an orchestra created a really cool song. That song used for the battle with Bizaro Sephiroth.

As for later, I got swept away in FF8 music... particularly Eyes On Me and all the variations and remixes. My favourites are the voiced version (Faye Wong has a lovely singing voice) and the ballroom type version (the one used as background music when Squall is at that SeeD inaguration party/ceremony. The strings in that were truly excellent). I also liked the different types of music used for the 4 battles with Ultimecia. There was this orchestral music, which then slowly changed into different orchestral song (like what Stravinsky used for the Firebird Ballet). And then, suddenly, when you fight the Ultimecia/Griever hybrid thing, it changes to this contemporary techno music and then finally (through the clever use of background noise like the falling comet thingies in the background etc.) changes to the song used for the final, faceless version of Ultimecia (Time Compression was it? I'm not sure) which was like the Birth Of A God: a mixture of digital music (electric guitars, keyboard noises/chords) and orchestral and chamber music.

My God, we like the same FF music!

I also got hooked on FF music when I was playing FFVII in the part where poor Aeris *cough - spoiler* meets an untimely death. That music (Aeris' Theme) was so beautiful.

My other favourites are:

Compression Of Time- FFVIII
Birth Of A God - FFVII
Don't Be Afraid - FFVIII
Melodies Of Life (English and Japanese) - FFIX
Eyes On Me - FFVIII
FFVII Final Number 2 - FFVII
Jenova - FFVII
Lifestream - FFVII
You're Not Alone - FFIX
Someday The Dream Will End - FFX
Summoned Beast Battle - FFX
Suteki Da Ne - FFX

Well, I was going through some ff7 character shrines (as usual) and I saw some of the music. The rest is history...
My favorites are:
One winged angel (I went and downloaded the MP3, it rocks!)
The nightmare's beginning (*giggle*)
Aeris' theme (does it have a name?)
Tifa's theme
Don Corneo's mansion (*giggle*)
The turks theme
All from FF7.
Now, this may be off topic, but I read an article about there being a sequel to FF7 coming out. This is very recent news. Amnyone tell me whether its true?

Hello Abe Babe. I do like Final Fantasy music, it sounds nice when I am playing the games. You would have to be the most music fan that I have ever seen! You listed a lot of songs there. I do only have a few mp3s in my collection. Just songs like Suteki da ne (this one is my favorite), Eyes on Me, Aeris Theme, Melodies of Life and a few other ones that I have come across.

And Hello Salty Pretzils. You should not tell Abe Babe that there would be FFVII-2, because she would go crazy about it at the moment, like I would go crazy about FFX-2. Oh! I am already crazy about FFX-2, I cannot wait!!!!!!!!!

Whoa Abe Babe... You sure have a lot of favourites.

Oh and like Salty Pretzils, I also like the Turk's theme. Oh and I forgot before, the highwind (airship) theme. That's really good orchestral music. Which reminds me, I need to practice my cello for my performance exam...

*runs off and starts to play gigue*

What??? FFVII-2!!! OMG, I must have that!!! j/k

Anyways, heard it, seen it. It was confirmed to be a rumor/joke (maybe even April Fools) which was made up of some existing images and fan art/fan made CG images. There's been a few threads about it over at some FF forums which I am a mod of in between time here.

Although a sequel to FFVII would be great, I would actually prefer a re-make. Same story, same gameplay, but PS2 graphics and maybe a couple of additional side-quests and some more FMVs. That would be awesome ... imagine Sephiroth on PS2 graphics ... I guess I can dream. I'd prefer this over a sequel, because a sequel to FFVII would kind of lose some of the magic of the original game. Like everyone would want Aeris back, and Sephy would have to come back in some way, because they couldn't have another villian in FFVII, so then they'd have to find a way to make him as cool as he was in FFVII.

Hmmm... recommendations. I would recommend anything in my list above. Do you prefer slower songs like Suteki da ne, or would you like something that sounds more up-beat? If you're going for slower songs, I'd recommend Eyes on Me, Fisherman's Horizon, Silence Before the Storm and Zanarkand. Simple and Clean and Real Emotion are good if you want something more Jpop. Good up-beat songs are Ride On, The Thing I must Protect and Seymour Battle.

You can download Endless Love, Endless Road from http://www.oddworld.au.com/temp/ENDL...DLESS_ROAD.mp3.

The Thing I must Protect can be downloaded from http://www.oddworld.au.com/temp/The_...st_Protect.mp3.

If there's any other songs you want, just let me know and I'll upload them for you. I had uploaded these ones for someone who had been looking for them once before, and they're still up there.

I of course would recommend One Winged Angel to you, but I think I read that you had downloaded it already in another post.
