Although I'm looking forward for original content more than HD remakes, it will be pure joy to play Abe HD. As for Hand of Odd, I'm not sure it's my cup of tea but I will support it in any way I can, as well as anything JAW makes

Hey, I'm looking forward to it. But please, whatever you do, don't make it anything like that truckload of steaming poop, Command and Conquer Tiberium Alliances. Really, it should be free to play like how TF2 and Tribes Ascend are games that happen to be free - Rather than a game that no one in their right mind would pay for, such as Roblox.

Halo ripped of the Alien films immensley, that doesn't make them bad games by any means. I've never played Command and Conquer, but thats no reason to dilslike a game is it? Or is it just a plain shit game? Because that may be why I don't play it.

As I understand it it's going to be rather a lot like StarCraft; I read somewhere that JAW had decided making a whole new game from scratch would simply take way too long so they decided to do it by way of a StarCraft mod. It'll be much the same but with new textures and models and a new campaign.

We've not nailed down exactly the feel yet. The old GDD is a good starting point, but much of it will need tweaking somewhat to make it play closer to people current expectations of the genre.

Game was completely hands off unless you wanted to maximise resources. Combat is slow, uninteresting and often times too easy/impossible depending on how someone has built stuff, and other than PvP it's a joke because the forgotten camps/bases/outposts could be cut through like butter. Having a second base was just more resources, as were any of the subsequent bases.

Command point system was bad; spending way more points to attack the "stronger" forgotten bases for less resources or way less points to attack the weaker neighbour/friend next to you for extreme amounts?

Gaining new tech took way too long and by the time you had it you realised that Pitbull spam or Firehawk rush was the best anyway. You could easily just focus on defense instead of offense and you would never ever lose because of how the combat in the game works. Resource management wasn't fun.

I left when they added those resource packages or whatever and even by then it was becoming some pay to win festival. It felt like a complete grind. Only thing I liked was forums for the guilds (but our guild was one of the best in the entire game).

There are some people who might like it but I don't exactly like doing nothing and being limited so fiercely in a game. At least it's a beta but I feel its too far gone to save, which makes me hope it fails hard.

Also Varrok's points are pretty valid.

It just doesn't play like Command and Conquer, and its full of hideous micro-transactions. The code is really sloppy and slow, the graphics and sounds are mostly just rips from CnC3, and its just plain boring to play. Hell, it feels more like a Farmville clone than an actual Command and Conquer game, what with waiting half an hour to build a unit or something.

Oh, and it rather sneakily signs you up to Origin to play it, a service I have deliberately kept away from >.>

On the subject of micro-transactions, they are fine when done right. To bring TF2 back up, the hat thing is superficial, but is enough to keep the money pouring in. Tribes Ascend does it differently, allowing you to fast-track unlocks by paying a fiver or so. You can unlock nearly everything for free, but it takes loads of time.

But yeah, I'm really looking forward to this. It'll be nice to have an RTS to play online again (I'm still playing Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds over Gameranger. Gotta love that Age Of Empires gameplay :3)

EDIT: And for the record, CnC is consistently excellent elsewhere, until this poor web-game. CnC4 was pretty good, but only taken out of context from the series (who the hell decides to totally change game mechanics on the final franchise installment?). Its actually the only thing EA haven't totally screwed up (I hate them forever for what they did to Origin Systems, Bullfrog and Westwood - and Oddworld, if you count the lack of promotion for SW).

Interesting how some people are saying they only want HoO to be free-to-play, I'd not mind paying an initial price for the game, £19.99 or whatever, for a copy, so long as you don't have to pay those odious monthly payment fees.

Honestly, totally-F2P games make me cry a little inside, because of all those delicious treasures I'll likely never have because I'm a failure dolescum. Looking at you Champs Online. (but, to be fair, they have a system to get around that, even if it requires much grinding)
But paying for the game THEN ALSO paying a subscription seems like an RL goldsink nowadays - yes, WoW, as delicious as I think you are I'm looking at you specifically with this. TERA, you're just as bad. I totally understand why this model exists, but it's not very attractive to consumers.
Honestly, ArenaNet and such companies who have the buy-and-play-free model are very pleasing to me.

TL;DR: I can't see myself giving Hand of Odd a chance if I have to pay monthly for it if it didn't also have a demo mode of some sort attached. I would certainly pay money for it. I really don't understand some of the mindset that the typical gamer seems to have these days, expecting things like total creative control and all games free. :/

I am particularly fond of "paying for the game plus any DLC you want" model.

I'm not sure if there is any game that is totally f2p. Atleast not big ones, ect. Like, I play Star Trek Online (make by the same guys who make Champions Online) and that went F2P recently but there's a currency in it you still have to pay for, it's quite annoying really. :P
