I hope the next Oddworld doesn't become the new Duke Nukem Forever though
Or The Elder Scrolls V....
Well with this formation of OddMobb, at least we know that Lorne is up to something and must have some plans.

So they're officially on hold then?
Good lord.
Yeah. Basically, Lorne doesn't want to go back to Oddworld yet, and he can't find a deal to produce CS that he's happy with. I have no idea what happened to the machinima series.

It's been at least 5 Goddamn years of twiddling thumbs and making almost diddly squat profit, yet Lorne feels the need to be a massive cock-tease to his fans by announcing yet another project that will be eventually left on the shelf? I know the Oddworld games are on Steam and PSN, but you'd think his company would have released something new after this amount of time rather than just re-releasing stuff without even slight improvements or extras. Hell, I would have just accepted slight sound tweeks if it ment that OWI wasn't on its last legs.

I've always like the Oddworld series and I like Lorne, but seriously? Everything now just feels like the dead parrot sketch from Monty Python.

I wasn't saying I could do any better. I just think Lorne plans something, doesn't think things through properly, and ends up either having to scrap it altogether or put on the shelf ready to be forgotten. Duke Nukem Forever springs to mind here.

I'm certain Lorne can get funding for his projects, but it's nearly always been "creative differences" that mean they have to sit on the shelf time after time, and as a fan of his work, I'm sick of it. I know he wants creative control, but from the way he seems to drop deals with other companies, you'd think they stamped on his first born child. Look at Games Workshop. They have very strict regulations about how their franchises are controlled, yet you get stuff like Dawn of War, which was absolutely brilliant.

If Lorne wants money, he should make another Oddworld game. It's what everyone wants and what everyone will buy. Oddworld was one of the best game comapnys out there.

OR he could make Nod's Oddysee and pay Max MILLIONS!

I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry. Holy Christ, another project? Sure, like with everything that Lorne does, I'm interested in what he plans to bring to the table, but the big problem is that nothing ever gets to the table.

As much as I love Lorne, if and when something actually comes out when he says (or hints) that it will, we'll know the Apocalypse is at hand. Case in point: There were rumours (ambitious rumours, but must have been inspired by something nonetheless) that CS would be released around 2009. In 2010 the brief is that the project is put on hold indefinitely.

I feel sceptical about this oxymoronic project of his anyway, because I fell in love with his art and his vision. I'll be damned if you can put art and vision into a social networking --- excuse me, Antisocial networking --- website. The idea is just weird to begin with. But maybe I'm just being a narrow-minded old-timer. I guess I'll just wait and see what happens.

yeah, we can be all "maybe i'm being narrow-minded" and shit, but realistically, wasn't the last thing he has released publically in like 2004 ffs? i mean, shit. you can have all the best ideas in the world but you can't be all fucking talk

I've really never stopped cursing him for calling off everything that we looked forward to.
But hey, he's still the same man, I think. Which is why I can allow myself a teensy bit of wishful thinking.

Sometimes things just don't work out.
I'm not going to be mad at Lorne, as I don't think his inaction is through his own fault. Things fell apart after SW, and he's struggled for a long time to pick up the pieces. I'm sure there's alot of things going on he isn't telling us, hindrances and issues he's had to overcome since OWI went under.
Without a practical, businessperson like Sherry at his side, Lorne is just another starving artist with a few connections. I have faith in him, but even if nothing comes of the next few years, I'll still love the guy.

Heh, faith.

I'd still like it if he finished the Quintology at some point, but I think that's passed into the realm of oblivion by now. As well as CS and the Abe movie. Anyway, I dunno if these ANTIsocial networking shenanigans of his are going to work, I'm just disappointed about the fact that the guy never finishes what he starts, or starts what he says he's going to start.

And Sherry is still working with him, at least according to the link.

You can't just walk into a game studio and make a game happen. Stranger barely made any sales, so why would anybody invest their time in another Oddworld game/movie? I certainly think they could make a successful game given the right support, but I understand the hesitance from potential investors.

This isn't Halo. A company like Bungie can do whatever they want because they make Microsoft a killing. Halo 2 would never have happened if Combat Evolved was a financial failure, despite the critical reception.

The Transformers movies were terrible and everybody knows it, but you better believe they're getting set to film the third one because people went to see it. If someone picks up the cost of Citizen Siege, I imagine Lorne will have no problem sticking to the project.

That's a shame really since now some blame has to be shifted onto her part. It's like she just stood by while Lorne continues on with his brainstorms without actually doing anything.

I said it before and I'll say it again: Get Gabe Newell to buy the company. Steam makes a tonne of money a month, franchises like Half Life and Left 4 Dead are as popular as ever, plus Lorne and Gabe seem to have great respect for one another. We'll get the games everyone wants with the money put towards them, and there will be a better chance of CS and the Oddworld movies actually being made.

Or possibly there's a hell of a lot of shit going on that we don't know about.

I mean, it might feel like Lorne announces tonnes of stuff and never completes any of it, but I guarantee that there are a hundred more things on the boil that he never mentioned publically. Also, they've been working constantly this whole time. It's not like Lorne and Sherry sit all day by the pool drinking daiquiris and occassionally saying "What pointless idea should I announce today to assuage the fans' curiosity?"

I'm not saying I expect results immediately when Lorne gets started on something, what I'm a little confused by is the fact that whenever he says he gets started on something, a year later we find out it's actually put on hold potentially forever, and then it turns out that he was actually focusing on 10 million other things. It's a bit frustrating since you never even know what to look forward to.
But I guess all we can do at this point is wait and see how this Oddmobb thing works out, hopefully Lorne pulls through this time.

There's only two choices: say something or say nothing, which would be equally frusterating. At least we know things are being worked on. It's very hard to make things happen in the movie and game business. It takes years, and nothing is ever certain. When Lorne says Citizen Siege is on hold, it doesn't mean he's lost interest already. If Miramax picked it up tomorrow then the project would be back on track, no question.

Also, I imagine this Antisocial Network won't take up too much of Lorne's time, so it probably won't affect the progress of these other projects. This allows the OddMobb team to keep busy while they wait for a breakthrough. Would I prefer a different route? Of course, but social networking sites are all the rage these days and obviously require less time and money than a game or movie. If this thing catches on, then awesome. If not, it won't be a big deal.
