I agree.

I hate it when people compare tragedies. There is no comparison, whether it's a hundred deaths or a million, it's all equally horrible when they're just innocent people.

No, not really, I tend to get over close deaths in pretty much an hour.

AFOS, you made three mistakes here.

You bullshitted to make yourself look like a big tough guy.

You responded to a general statement like it was directed at you personally.

And you did all this in a thread about the London attacks, which is incredibly disrespectful.

Admit it, if mommy died you'd spend the better part of a week sobbing in a darkened corner. You are not going to get respect by acting like you're an uncompassionate inconsiderate bastard.

'I have seen London's great architecture in person. I can't believe they would ruin such refined architecture.'

Yes, such a terrible, terrible loss. I for one feel like they've struck a blow by destroying such gorgeous buildings(!)

'Also, you can't look at it like "32 deaths, that's not much" because if it was a close friend or member of your family, it would be like the end of your world.'

I agree, but it still isn't much. The Terrorists did a pretty shitty job on London, t'as to be said, what with it actually bringing people closer together, the lack of deaths (compared to prior attacks) and the fact London is being quite stoic etc.

I like Britain. I think we're the best country in the whooooooole world.

...though our weather's poop. But Global Warming should sort that out. Yes.

But will there be a nuclear winter? Anyway back on topic, Dino was right, you cannot compare tradgedies no matter what the death toll. 1 or 1 million, an innocent life has been taken early and some people will be very upset. I know I'd be devastated if one of my family died, so I'd guess that anyone else would too. Except flock of seagulls, apparently.

FOS please be more respectful. The only time you've come to grips with death is when a pet has died.

I don't understand about the bombs though. I think the BBC is still claiming that it's 6/7 bombs, and as far as I know the police have decided that it wasn't suicide bombers as they're searching for the terrorists... But I'm not sure.

Alright I can respect that, but this is a delicate issue. I know what you mean about getting over death quickly. Both my Nans have died but I felt very little loss which upsets me now, I feel guilty as though they didn't mean anything to me. I loved them both but now I feel maybe I was living a lie as I feel ashamed of myself for being so apathetic towards people who loved me dearly.
I loved them but felt guilty when I didn't cry or feel any great loss. I didn't feel like crying or being upset.

What makes it worse is that I KNOW I would be upset if my mom or dad died, so I should have felt upset when these other people died.
But I think that I can relate my feelings to my atheism and positivity. When I attend funerals I have to stop myself from laughing, which sounds really wrong, but because to me the religious service is like a farce.
I suppose I don't feel the grief as I like to remember things positively, not dwell on them negatively.

I doubt our frog munching eurotrash "friends" would stoop that low.
They'd use crappy insults like: "They don't deserve it because their food is bad!"

Nah. I'm not like that. I like France. It's pretty. See, I'm nice.

I have had a few family deaths but most of them were when I was too young to remember. I just had a recent one. My Aunt died. At first, I wasnt as fazed as a lot of my other family members were, but then it began to sink in, and I realized that she is truly gone forever and what time I spent with her is the only thing that I have to hold on to. I know that this kind of death isn't as heart piercing as a death of a mother or brother, but I really can't imagine losing someone that close.

AFOS, this is not a thread on how much of a Manly McManwich you are, so knock off the crap. I once attended the funeral of my late Aunt Sandy. Now, I'm 18 years old, and I was bawling. I seriously doubt that someone who's 5 years younger than me can stare at a dead body and laugh a thunderous laugh.

Dino, this is more of a request than a yelling-at, but if you could, just keep the arguements in PMs? I mean, I understand AFOS bothers you, but seriously. This is a bad thread to carry on personal arguements in.

Thank you.

Hey, arguing people, this is not time for being all disrespectful and petty. Shut it. Please.

I haven't had my television plugged in for a week or so, and I didn't hear about this until half an hour ago at my grandparents'. My heart goes out to all of London as well. The two-story bus that was bombed looks like it's done the most damage. I saw shots of blood splattered on the walls of buildings where it went off. And all the wounded people (even if it's not much compared to the attacks here)... God, it looked horrible.

But seeing the strength and resilience of the people there is amazing--So many men and women declaring they won't let this affect their daily lives negatively.

Nobody can shatter the British spirit. When we were Blitzed, we didn't give in. The morale of Britain is too strong. Even Rudolph Giuliani said that the strength of the Brits in WW2 inspired New Yorkers at the time of the 9/11 attacks.

Damn right. I think Ken Livingston's speeches on the attacks are very moving. London has a brilliant unity between everyone, regardless of race, age, colour or sex. They all get along with each other.
