London Bombings

If you haven't heard about it yet, just over two hours ago, seven (last count I heard on the news) bombs have gone off on buses and the underground train things. It's believed that it was Al Qaeda related. BBC is saying over a hundred casualties with two deaths and ten people in critical condition. From the looks of some of the wreckage, I am guessing that the 'two deaths' are an underestimate, because the damage is pretty bad. For example there is a double decker bus with the whole top half blown off.

Cyber-Slig 07-07-2005 05:13 AM

That's just terrible, some people just don't know when to stop.

Kimon 07-07-2005 07:07 AM

Holy shit. They've tried this stunt before, too. Last year my (rich) classmates went on a trip to London, and one of their days was messed up because the train was evacuated due to someone carrying a bomb onto the railway.

But now they actually did it. That kind of thing scares the hell out of me.

Godlesswanderer 07-07-2005 07:17 AM

At the most recent count, 33 deaths on the underground and an unknown amount of the double decker bus.

Although Al Qaeda Europe have claimed on their website that they set off the bombs but the police have to do an investigation into that claim.

big bro boogie 07-07-2005 07:32 AM

I kept blinking at this thread for over 5 minutes.
What The HELL do people try to archieve with this kind of actions?
Nothing, it's just fun to blow stuff up. And casualties make it even better.

Jesus. Where is the world heading these days?

Munch's Master 07-07-2005 08:10 AM

This is just scary. I never thuoght I'd see it happen. A few of my friends have friends/relatives that live/were in London today. I hope they're alright. But if Blair had never just kissed up to and followed George Bush, and helped him in the war with Iraq, this probably wouldn't have happened.

SeaRex 07-07-2005 08:31 AM

Whoa.

I hadn't even heard of this until now. Shows how informative 'Merkin TV is. "Hell, don't matter none if i'tain't 'bout us! Ahyuck!"

I wish I had something more sentimental to say. I mean, it's always terrible when innocent people are killed.

Rex Tirano 07-07-2005 08:42 AM

I don't think it's Al Qaeda, I mean it might be, but I think it's some ass trying to make a point against G8. Trying to stop it, what are the odds that a terrorist attack happens the same day as the G8? However, the 8 leaders have already publicly announced that G8 will still go ahead and Tony Blair flew back an hour or so ago.

I don't think that the G8 was the main reason though, otherwise why didn't they bomb Edinborough? Also because of the war in Iraq, several judgements that Tony Blair has made or other things has probably caused this.

Alot of my classmates think that it's because London gets to host the olympic games, but that's just stupid.

I was told [from the news] that 27 people had died and a hundred more are critically injured.

This is such an awful thing to happen.

Woke up at 11 and it was one of the first posts at Atrios. Blogs rule.
Edit: Sorry, that appeared like I didn't care. I do. I'm just saying that this is something that probably wouldn't get a lot of coverage by the local and MS news.

Godlesswanderer 07-07-2005 09:12 AM

Right now, it's 33 deaths, 300 people with minor injuries and 40 people with critical injuries.

used:) 07-07-2005 09:17 AM

Man, Al Quaida pisses me off. And not just Al Quaida, all those other dickweed terrorist groups. First New York then Madrid and now London! It's unbelievable.

soulstice 07-07-2005 09:37 AM

How DARE they do this to our city? This is ****ing unbelievable. These Islamists are really getting on my nerves now, with their phobia of the West. To think, I'm only 5 minutes away from Edgware Road. Right now, there's so much traffic outside. Don't these ****ers realise how much chaos they're creating? Why can't they just leave us the **** alone and go back to their caves.

used:) 07-07-2005 09:41 AM

Yea, at 9-11, people died trying to save the victims of that act of insanity. And the situation at the airports today is unbearable. And I wouldn't say Islamists, just ****ed up asshole douche bag terrorists.

Fuzzle Guy 07-07-2005 09:41 AM

This is rediculous! just as I was saying in the religion thread, all the innocent people die yet the bad guys survive?

The BBC says there are 4 bombs, ITV says there are 7?

:

That kind of thing scares the hell out of me.

If you are scared then the terrorists have won.

Hobo 07-07-2005 09:41 AM

Get over it. 33 deaths? We're fucking lucky. And this is the biggest terrorist thing ever to happen to us. Ok, it shouldn't have happened, but let's not draw it out of proportion.

My dad works in London. In a government building. He was up there today, and he travels all over London. So don't give me any pissy responces about me being a bastard.

33 is a tiny number. So let's not assume it's the end of the world.

Dark Elite_H2 07-07-2005 09:45 AM

People are just stupid today. Not callin' all y'all stupid, I mean people who do things fer stupid reasons. The Al Qaedas are now startin' to piss me off. First D.C, then London. They need to be taught a lesson. Make them crawl back down in their holes.

Fuzzle Guy 07-07-2005 09:46 AM

33 deaths is 33 + people in misery tonight.

I agree with Big Bro Boogie, what are they trying to achieve?

No one assumed it was the end of the world. People have perished, and that shouldn't have happened in the first place. These terrorists have caused death, no matter how minor, they've still killed people and that's not acceptable.

Hobo 07-07-2005 09:52 AM

Americans have killed more men women and children in Iraq who were innocent. Where's the all day news report for them?

Dipstikk 07-07-2005 09:56 AM

Oh, man. I just don't know what to say.

I heard about it on our local news station. My heart goes out to you, and I wish the best for London.

soulstice 07-07-2005 09:59 AM

Very, very true.

Dark Elite_H2 07-07-2005 10:02 AM

Hobo, if you don't give a damn about the terrorist attack, then please, PLEASE, don't post in here. All the rest of us would like to care about the people in London who were killed or injured.

Hobo 07-07-2005 10:07 AM

Did i say i didn't give a damn? No. I said don't blow it out of proportion.

I didn't say i didn't care. Nothing's made me more happy than my father coming home today. I'm just saying. 4 bombs - 37 deaths. Very bloody lucky. That's 9 people/bomb. That is nothing compared to 4 planes 3000+ deaths.

Rex Tirano 07-07-2005 10:08 AM

I turned on the news and George W. Bush was on, telling the reporters about how wrong it is to kill innocents and about how the leaders are high and mighty. I just couldn't believe he'd said that. He started the war on Iraq that killed hundreds of innocent Iraqis [sp?] but also killed innocent men and women in his own army. In the British army.

Yeah Hobo's right, in comparison to 9/11 or other terrorist attacks 33 is a small number. But it's wrong to do something like that, like Fuzzle Guy said, that's 33+ people. Infact it's 33 families, whether they be mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, children, uncles, aunts or grand parents, who will be hurting tonight.

It's amazing people stayed so calm, people in the bombings [who are relatively okay] have said things like everyone was calm and helped each other.

[Edit :: Fair point, I just assumed. ^_^ sorryness]

Dark Elite_H2 07-07-2005 10:22 AM

I was agreein' with soulstice. This should've never happened. Sure, the attack of 9/11 was terrible, but even though that was bad, no more innocnet people should be killed by these assh$%#s.

Coolmanbizkit 07-07-2005 10:24 AM

:

Weren't the bombers suicide bombers? But I get the point.

No one knows if they were suicide bombers yet.

Report for that?! Hello? Haven't you heard about the constant protests and how world leaders appaul the situation? And don't you dare assume that all of America is all "full steam ahead on the war." Because America is divided. Even though my country's leader is a right winged asshole and and idiot, it is still my country and I still support it. Not its decisions.

On Topic: Yes, I highly agree with Soulstice on this.

Hobo 07-07-2005 11:04 AM

Did i say that all of America was "full steam ahead on the war." Don't put words into my mouth boyo. I said that more innocents have been killed by American troops, yet there isn't this coverage for them. I don't care about protests. Small minority. This is a whole world coverage... Now read what i write next time.

used:) 07-07-2005 11:40 AM

No, how about you read what I write. I said don't ASSUME. Cuz it really pisses me off when someone just goes and ASSUMES that America is totally pro-war because we AREN'T. So back off Ass Wipe!

Conker_Rocket 07-07-2005 11:55 AM

I'm watching it on the news right now. Quick! Go to the channel ABC! Quick!
