Just think of the damage these fish could cause. Some have HUGE teeth, and would attack you on sight. Some of those would probably spray you with poison of some sort. Maybe some are harmless...but that Viper Fish would scare me if I was waay underwater.
Actually, most are almost blind :P.

And no poison.

For course they are not mutanted! I know that. They are freaky though, so I will call them mutants
Just because something look different doesn't mean it should be called a mutant. I mean, do you call people you find ugly "mutants"?

And you didn't know that. If you did, this thread would be titled "Deep Sea Fish Wash Up On Shore!".

Most of those fish are extremely frail or fragile, so I doubt they could cause humans much harm. Many probably died just from being exposed to sunlight for too long.

And as Mojo said, none are poisonous. They rely on their bioluminescent bodies or appendages to draw in prey, and then, when the prey is close enough, they devour them.

Ugg, I HATE spiders...I dont know why though. If I saw on of them floating towards me in the sea, I would never go to the beach again! *shudders*
:
I'd grab the nearest rock to me and spend as much time as I could attempting to crush the thing. I know it sounds cruel, but it's instinct when I see a spider. I'd hate to see what it's like when it actually moves. Yuck.
They're not spiders, their pycnogonids. They are chelicerates, like arachnids and xiphosurans (horseshore crabs) and eurypterids (sea scorpions), but apart from that, totally different and TOTALLY benthic, so you won't find them floating anywhere. You might find a tiny one in the mud at the bottom, if you are really lucky, and the pycnogonid is really lost.

But seriously, you wouldn't react to them n the same way as a spider. They may have superficially similar legs, but trust me, in the flesh they give off a completely different vibe, you couldn't classify a fear of them as arachnophobia, it would be "pycnogonophobia".

Teeth are not an indication of aggression. I mean, a shark wouldn't attack you, why should they? Most are really small anyway, their teeth look huge in the pictures, but they're tiny. Also, no poison. Hell, a spray underwater? WTF?

If you met a harmless viper fish, you'll have bigger problems than your encounter to deal with. Like the lack of air and searing pressure kilometers down.

I didn't mean it that way, ya goose. I meant that just because something is "different" doesn't make it a "mutant", technically speaking. For something to be a mutant, it's DNA would have to be quite different from the DNA of the rest of its species.

It would need only one change to it's genetic code not inherited from either parent to be a mutant. Going by pure probability of a mutation arising and the amount of DNA, every single organism has several brand new mutations, it's just a matter of whether they are expressible or not..

Cause I can. Man, Bullet, you make me sound like a little kid, how the hell do you remember all that??? Anyway, though the fish probably wouldnt attack me, I would still freak, as they are evil looking, with all those teeth.

If anyone GENUINELY thought these were mutants, then you deserve to be beaten. You neevr saw Blue Planet OR Planet Earth? Shame on you.

Coffin fish? Looks more like a Bat fish to me. Never heard the Coffin fish name...

Dangerous? Pah, they die when they get brought too high up because there's not enough pressure (usually, anyway) and they're generally pretty small, too.
