Does anyone think we should have an " Other Games" subforum?

Well, I agree with this idea of a forum for other games. Just don't make them games that are the biggest hits like Halo. I will pledge what minimal forces I have to your cause.

I'm sure Halo is going to be in there like it or not, for better or for worse. Farce Life 2 will no doubt be in there too, but I don't really mind, so long as people are talking about what they wanna talk about then it's all cool.

It's a little late, but I completely agree. In Oddworld's downtime, it would encourage a world of talk. We need to be responsible though, I have a feeling things might get out of hand. We love games, but sometimes we subconciously go too patriotic ("omg zelda is better than halo") but as long as there's all love and no hate, it'll all be good. That's the worst that can happen, anyway; I'm all up for trial and succession. <3

Initially I thought it was a crap idea. But from reading all of your reasons, I can't believe I'm about to say what I'm about to say: I'm actually, for once in my life, going to open up a new forum! Oh my God! Alcar has gone mad!

However, I still have two cringes:

1) If it doesn't work, and not much posting occurs, I'm merging it back into Off-Topic Discussion and doing away with it.

2) If I put it in Zulag 2 (obviously) we end up with too many forums in Zulag 2. I know it sounds so little, but too me, I really like to keep things nice and pretty.

And what do we call it? I think the 'Games Forum' sounds crap, especially when all of our other forums have better and interesting names (well I think so anyway). Also, do we make it a sub-forum of Off-Topic? Or a proper forum?

As for Moderators, I'll leave that up to SeaRex to choose, as I believe his department is Users. I'm sure he'll pick the most suited (and who is online frequently, etc, etc) for the games forum.

So, all of you reply with the following if you want to see this fruitate:

1) A cool and jazzy name for the forum, but nothing too long
2) Where do we put it? OT Sub-Forum? Or Proper Zulag 2 Forum?

1. "Miscellaneous Gaming" might work. Or something simpler like "Random Gaming" or "Non-Oddworld Gaming."

2. I say it should be a an OT sub-forum. Right under W&B, even. That way, I wouldn't have to worry about choosing another mod. XD

But if it does end up as a new forum in itself, I'll give the mod title some thought.

I'm against the idea of a sub-forum, it seems that if we're worried about a lack of people posting in it, this would strengthen that problem. I pretty much ignore the sub-forums all together. It may seem like a pretty small detail, but it may become a factor. I think it deserves a seperate forum, as others have mentioned, the people that joined this place are most likely gamers.

"Non-Oddworld Gaming" probably gets the point across much more clearly, like "Non-Oddworld Art and Literature" instead of "Miscellaneous Art and Literature"...

I think it would look better as a sub-forum in OT, but the problem Mojo just mentioned seems valid.

What difference does that make? It is sort of where it belongs, and this is only for a trial period right? If it goes well then Peter will start forum shifting.

Yeah well that's why I was thinking that it's quite viable now... cause we've got cool guys like hobo and searex who can pwn the stupid n00bies for 250 dmg.

*Sigh* I guess I just kinda feel sorry for Alcar in that there used to be this active games company churning out stuff to talk about, and even when it wasn't churning it out it was there to talk about... but then it died and went away and now the whole thing is relying on an essentially dormant company to release a film. I mean, lets face it, in that respect GD's days are numbered... there's only so many times that it can rehash the same conversations about the old games before it comes time to pull the plug. This place is still, by catagory, a gaming forum, so perhaps it would be a good and overall logical route to go down? Maybe even get in some more, new, intelligent members who'll be attracted by the fact that they can chat about games that they like, and hang out with all the awesome dudes that we have here. This lack of Oddworld making games isn't going to kill us off outright but it's sure as hell going to have an affect. OWF is going to be progressively less active in recruiting new members without doubt. So maybe, you never know, it might just do us good?

At first reading through this thread I thought this was a stupid idea, but this post made me realise that it would benefit the forums. Because if OWI happened to crumble, I would hate to lose this place as well.

I'd be inclined to agree with "Non-Oddworld Gaming". And I think that should it take off, it should probably have it's own mod, preferably someone who is absolutely nutty about games. But to begin with SeaRex and Hobo would be more than capable of handling the task.

Also I agree with Super Munch's suggestion for the moving of FS&H to Zulag 3. Like Alcar said, user management is SeaRex and Hobo's domain, the FS&H stuff is on the technical side of things which is for Alcar to deal with, so it wouldn't be a major loss if it was moved out of their duresdiction.

As for moving Forum Suggestions & Help... I don't mean to be rude at all, but that won't be shifted out of Z2. Z1 contains all the major Oddworld-literal forums, while Z2 contains the off-topic stuff, and the Oddworld-fan based stuff. I suppose I wouldn't mind adding the games forum in Z2 as either an OT sub-forum or a proper forum, because it'd still look good (because the smaller amount of forums still belong in Z1). Yes, it's stupid, but I like things to look purdy. I guess I really just have to decide where on Earth in Z2 it goes.

I suppose trying it as an OT sub-forum first, without a dedicated Moderator would be okay. But then as Mojo said, it may not recieve as much attention. I'm inclined to mention that I never thought Welcomes & Birthdays would take off, which is false, because it contains so much more than I ever anticipated.

Jesus this is a difficult decision. Yet so insignificant. I'll think of what to do on the drive home.

Please make it a seperate forum... subforums seem so unimportant and sideshow. If you're going to make it a subforum at least do it with the intention to expand it out into it's own forum once it takes off. Cause ideally we'd want the Non Oddworld Gaming forum to be so popular that it has it's own subforum and shit like that.

I think a separate forum would be best, because (the way I see it, at least), the people who care about gaming are in our only gaming-related forum, which is OG. I'm sure Non-Oddworld gaming would do alright as a subforum in OT, but it would definetly not live up to it's full potential.

And seeing as how Non-Oddworld gaming is not related to Oddworld (Duh), it couldn't be a sub-forum in OG. So I vote to make it it's own forum.

Which means you're right, it would belong in Zulag 2. I'm guessing Alcar will give you a sub-forum for a trial first, but I see no reason for it not to recieve full forum status in the long run.
