I recommend Gimp, it's a free art program which has some of the same tools that photoshop has.

Also the screen grid will help you plan your level and object alignment (because the game scales the cams to 640x480):

I think I've figured out the secret to matching up 3D renders to the game grid - using a lattice to "squash" the object .

Might be able to make something worth while if I ever get good enough with blender.

Edit: Nicked some textures from fan corner, looks a little better now.

And i'm nearly on a 150 post century very soon. and can't believe I've came so far to aim 150.
