Thanx for the list of creatures Max. Is there any chance there will be sligs in the Stranger game?

well, so, no sligs

Oddish, good question. With sligslinger gone, I don't think there's anyone claiming they can rip music from the game disks/save files (read: get a microphone and record the sound). However, with a nice new server, I can technically re-upload the Abe a GoGo soundtrack, which, thanks to your reminder, I will do very shortly.

Alf also mentioned in an email to Odd Trusting that there was one other familiar creature to be seen in Stranger's Wrath. Some believe it is the Gloktigi, but that creature isn't exactly familiar in the broadest of terms.

Exclamation Upcoming games

Okay, so I have a few questions about the games. I'm sure you've talked about this earlier in here, probably many times, but I can't possibly go through all the threads I've missed.

So.. What ever happened to Hand off Odd? Is it ever coming out? I was really expecting it. I hope I got the name right. The one with the hippy mudokons versus the big bad corporate monsters and you could choose which side you're on. I LOVED the idea and was excited about it but now I haven't heard anything about the game for a few years already and I doubt it'll ever come out. Do you know something? Has it been postponed or cancelled? Maybe because of the transfer to EA? I found nothing from the official site.

And another thing - Stranger being the 3rd part of the quintology will there ever be Munch's Exoddus? Well, that's what everyone kept saying the second Munch game would be, too, but whatever it might be called, will there ever be an extra game to Munch? I always thought there would be and I'm disappointed if there won't, because Munch's Oddysee wasn't too good and the explanation was it was made in a hurry. I really hoped they'd make the extra with enough time and Munch would get the game he deserves. I also would've liked a game with just Munch. Abe together with him was a fun idea and tied the game to the older games of the series, but Abe was a hero on his own, so should've Munch been. What made that hard, though, was his inability to walk properly and it was a fun idea they were both needed : Munch doing the swimming and Abe the walking/running etc. So it would be hard to make a game where Munch'd have to stand on his own. But he could learn new skills, get a leg implant, whatever. I was just expecting more Munch. But will there be any? Of course they could make extras afterwards but with Stranger it feels like they're moving on and leaving the old games behind.

I'm really excited about a new Oddworld game, but I really don't know what to think about Stranger.. An Oddworld first person shooter.. I really loved Abes for the game type (well, I loved EVERYTHING about Abes) and I'm not a huge fan of fps's, so I don't know how I'll like the game. But it's Oddworld, so I'll have to love it anyway. I'm just a bit worried about where the series is headed, too. The meaning was to introduce us to Oddworld and all it's inhabitants from different angles, yes. And that is good. New heros, new species, new environments, even new game genres. I really do think it's all good but also I'm worried if they'll ever be as good as the best one so far - AO.

Which brings me to my next worry. Will there even be more Oddworld games? I mean.. the series is really popular, they have many fans and they're known to care for them as well, plus the passion they have for Oddworld themselves.. But still the new series they're planning concerns me. At least the games will take even longer to come out and I'm also concerned the other series will take their time so much the Oddworld games' quality will suffer over it. Or, the worst scenario possible, the Oddworld series might be cancelled. I don't really believe it, but I'm a pessimist. Oh well, I just got my lovely art book and I'll just have to look at the cover and put the emphasis on the "First ten years" There'll be many more to come, I hope. Now I'll just need to wait for Stranger, but I'd also love the extars. So, any info on their coming? Or are there any others in progress?

Heh. Its called Hand of Odd. And its not really happening at the moment. It may happen in the future sometime but there are no concrete plans yet.

:

1)Stranger is not the 3rd part of the quintology. It's seperate.
2) Munch: Maybe, maybe not. They may just skip straight to Squeek without a Munch Exoddus. I suspect they may still do Munch's Exoddus simply because they were disappointed at Munch's Oddysee. Its not going to be the next game at least though because Lorne wants a quantum leap in technology first

:

As long as OWI are operating, they'll make Oddworld games. Not necessarily exclusively, as we found out last week that they'll be producing a game set in the future of planet earth but they still want to make all the quintology games and the movies.

Take a look through the forum to find out more about stranger. Go to gamespot for some good previews and videos.

Oh yeah, I had forgotten about Squeek. Well, we knew his name 3 years ago already but no game yet so one forgets.. I thought someone here said Stranger was the 3rd part, but maybe I remember wrong I'm glad it isn't. I'd like the other parts to be more like the old ones, but I'll welcome plenty of extra games where they can try whatever they want. I'm also glad they're not rushing with ME, if it'll come out. Also I was disappointed with MO. And like I said I'm really looking forward to the second game with improvements.

I do believe there will be more Oddworld games, but still I'm worried about the Citizen Siege news. But who knows, maybe it turns out great, too, and the OW ones will be better than ever. Oh yeah.. You mentioned the films, too.. I'd never heard about them until last night when someone else here was also worried about will there be all the 5 games plus extras or will the last ones just come out as films. Have they talked about that? If the films will be axtras that'll be cool, but I want all the 5 games I've been promised.

Thanks for the info. And taa, but I know loads about Stranger already and I have tons of images and clips like from all the other games. I just can't wait to get my hands on it.

Lorne said in a recent interview that they are in preliminary discussions about getting funding to make the films. I suspect we won't have to wait until all the games are finished. Either they'll release the games at the same time as their respective movies or they may even release the games afterwards.

Or they may release the games as movies, afterall, film could be the chosen media for which Lorne may want to develop the Quintology on.

What's the point makeing only the movies? Lornes main idea was to produce the quintology as games, he wanted to show that games can like movies, that was his main idea.

duhderr (think family feud).

The movies came first. The games were only his way of establishing an Intellectual Property so that they could raise the money to make the movies the way he wants.

If you read the interview with Lorne at CVG, and countless other interviews that have passed us, you'll see that Lorne does really believe in the power of the video game medium, and that that's why he wants to make games.

I'm not disputing that fact. But his original plan was to make the quintology as movies. The games came later.

It's certainly how the Quintology chapters were first written, but then that could easily have been part of his plans to produce games that were up to the quality of movies. For all we know, there was more left out of Abe's Oddysee than Munch's Oddysee, although we'd probably have heard about it by now (but then, we have only just found out the reason Abe is bald!). It does make me wonder how the noble and fantastic introduction to the Quintology managed to be some un-epic and low-tech, and yet it's so dearly loved.

I have a couple of questions:

1. Molluck runs the corperate empire and is so big and powerful, right? So why does he wear "Big Cheese" clothes? You'd think that he would be a Glockstar wouldn't you? Or maybe he just doesn't like the whole sparkly getup, I mean it's not a law that glukkons have to wear clothes that represent their status, is it?

2. In AO and AE glukkons explode when Abe depossess them but in MO they don't explode. Does this just simply mean that Abe has gotten more control over his powers or what?

1. Mullock isn't all that special. Someone asked Alf about high status Gluks and he said that General Dripik was the most powerful Gluk to be seen in a game yet.

2. Yes. Abe has got better. Also in AE he had learned to possess Paramites and Scrabs. This shows that he is slowly getting better.

1) What was the wording of the first rumour we heard about Stranger, that we all dismissed as an April Fools-Day joke?
2) Is there a link anywhere to Paul O'Connor's designer diaries from MO?

Here's the text from that early EGM report. Credit goes to Oddsville for posting this, although I believe MojoMan also posted it independently.

“Brace yourself, because it's a little... well, weird. Apparently, it involves a half-monkey, half-horse, centaurish main character who's got a psychic connection to (get redy for it...) his boat. Yes, I said boat. Your job is to transport some "things" down a river in said boat. The monkey-horse man and his talking thinking sentient boat have a gameplay relationship.....”

Hilariously, Xavier was the first person to respond to this. He said:
:
sounds well Strange.
As for Paul O'Connor's designer diaries, simply search the Forums. I have a vivid memory of having posted the link for someone else before.

Hello everyone, I haven't been able to visit for awhile now (I was on holidays). I was wondering if anyone could tell me how many Oddworld Christmas cards there are? I thought I had them all until I looked onto the picture link.

Oh God, how I remember laughing at how non sequiter that used to sound...

OK, this may sound REALLY stupid, but is it possible to buy OW:S off the net, and it being in Aussie/ Singapore PAL format? (I'm just getting desperate to buy the game early, otherwise I'll have to wait for- brace yourself- 1 MONTH!!! )

Super Munch, you can pre-order the game off the Internet. I believe they usually ship very swiftly, but the only other way you could play the game is to acquire either an illegal copy or a foreign copy with a modded Xbox. OWF can't endorse either.

The Marching Mudokon, I think there's been a Holiday card released every Seasonal Season since 1997, which would mean there are now eight cards. I think I have six.

Damn, I only have 3 Christmas cards and the MO stickers.
Thanks for the info, Max
I know this is a little off topic but does anyone have the Christmas cards and/or Stranger cards they are willing to sell?
Can anyone tell me where I can download that Oddworld movie with the sligs marching and it has the burger joint in the background?

What happened to the free DVD? I pre-ordered OW:SW at EB Games and they said they didn't know about it.
