Does that not contradict itself? If we make custom titles available to everyone, the novelty will eventually wear off. In the end they will become exactly like signatures and avatars (according to you). Meaningless. So why only make them available to a select few? And keep the novelty of a custom title in tact. Not only that, but it gives members something to strive for.
|
No it doesn't contradict itself. The custom titles will not be "available to everyone". You will have to earn money to buy one, and to earn money you have to post. Simple, so simple I'm amazed you didn't get it in the first place. Your argument is now invalid on 1 point.
:
Also, if we make custom titles available to everyone, the whole concept of our rank system, where you gain a new specialised Oddworld title every so often (based on post count) is lost. The novelty of the rank system is destroyed. I know that when I first joined, the rank system was fantastic. You didn't know what was next, and when you got a new rank, you couldn't believe it.
|
No it isn't. If you don't want a custom title, then you don't buy one, simple as that. I don't see why you think it is so "fantastic" to get a new rank. That very statement contradicts your argument of "people will just post spam to get enough money to buy a custom title". Well, if the ranks were so fantastic, then I imagine people spammed just to get the next one. If they didn't, then your argument is now invalid on 2 points.
:
I simply believe you aim to take the Oddworld from the Oddworld Forums.
|
No I don't. I like Oddworld, and unless all people talk about once the shop hack is implemented, is custom titles, ranks, and so on, I seriously doubt anything like this could take the Oddworld out of Oddworld forums. This invalidates your intelligence on 1 point.
:
This isn't about making titles look flashy, or giving users personalities. They have personalities. We just have to get to known them better, understand them better.
|
Yes, yes it is about making titles look flashy you dipshit. You've contradicted your previous argument twice now. Shop hack is EXACTLY the same as ranks. It serves exactly the same purpose. If you agree with ranks, YOU AGREE WITH SHOP HACK. This contradiction now invalidates your argument on 3 points.
:
How can you expect members to integrate into our community if all they get is pissed off members looking at the newest member to unload their anger on?
|
What? WTF has that got to do with anything? Try and stay on topic you hapless moron.
:
I have no qualms in admitting you do this with your brash nature. I cannot believe the audacity in your claims of giving people more personality.
|
OH I see, it's a personal bash at me. How very intelligent and grown up of you.
:
When I look at a user, I look at how productive they are. Are they friendly? Do they contribute?
|
When you "look" at a new user eh? Do you think they really care what you think of them? Don't be so ****ing arrogant. You aren't so special that everyone seeks out your approval.
Since a custom title would cost 1000 neutral or + rated posts, you wouldn't be able to buy one if you hadn't made a sizeable contribution.
:
I still have my list of potential Moderators in my head. New ones, that will be the successors of those that leave.
|
Good for you. I don't care. I'm not here to become a moderator, I'm here to talk about SHOP HACK. Stay on topic please.
:
These members are the ones that don't complain about their status, they don't try and start inter-forum wars, they have a nice attitude, and as I said earlier, they contribute.
|
ok, 1 stop bashing me, 2 stay on topic.
:
The reason we have rules, is to protect members from people who do treat them like a computer.
|
You barely even follow your rules yourself. So don't you dare try bashing me with that.
:
Don't you dare try and cover up what you do with the excuse "I treat them as computers". By doing that, you strip every member here of their rights and personalities.
|
No I don't. I didn't say that at all. I said that I see people as computers when I am
angered. The example I gave was one that stated that if I came to a fight, I would feel less bad about whatever it was I said, than if it happened in real life.
:
Finally, when a member complains about not having a custom title, they are in turn stating they think they are better than everyone else.
|
No they aren't, they are saying that they don't feel they are being recognised for what they are contributing to your forum. And when you say "when a member asks for a custom title, they think they are better than everyone else", the member that was seeking a custom title, just thinks to himself "well **** this, I might as well be slaughtering pedophiles for all you care".
:
They think they deserve it, over all others.
|
No they don't, that is a massive mistake to make. Those who feel they aren't being recognised for their contribution, if anything, would feel solidarity with others who deserve one more than they do, and may even add them to their argument. I know I do. Oddguy, Sligslinger, Grig, ferill, Hobo, all these guys have contributed much more than I have, and they all deserve a custom title much more than I do, but just because I'm arguing for their right to get one, doesn't mean I'm personally asking for one.
If we set the required postcount at say 1000 posts for a custom title, I wouldn't be able to get one for another 200 or so posts.
:
One of the things I hate most, is members complaining that they aren't treated equally, that they are less priviledged.
|
Why? What else do you expect them to do? Just let you continue to treat them unfairly by not recognising their efforts? Sure, you may occasionally mention them, and thank them for what they do here, but that isn't anything really, and it is increadibly arrogant on your part.
:
All members (bar the staff and those that are banned) are in the same usergroup. You each are equal. If Abe Babe or I think you worthy of a custom title, we will approach you. More often that not, it will be because of your interest in regards to an Oddworld related issue.
|
That's the thing. You think the staff are above everyone else, so you talk to people as though they are DUMB, and as though they aren't on the level with you. You treat them equally this way. And you think banned members are below everyone else.
The last one is fair enough, but the first one is a grave mistake.
It's a grim fact of life, that there are no equals. There are only individuals. Some are poor, some are rich. Some are attractive, some are ugly. Some are mean, some are kind. Treating everyone as an equal is not only unprofessional, it is also unwise.
It takes a great deal to treat people as an individual, you need to know alot about them on a personal level. It requires that you sometimes have to step down to their level, or up to their level, just to interact. There will always be people better than you, and people worse off with you.
Sometimes we just have to accept that people are different. With the shop hack, people are rewarded for their effort. If some people choose not to contribute as much as others, they will not get the chance to have a custom title - which may seem unfair to them, but in reality is completely fair.
It's not that some people feel that they are better than others, its just that some people manage to reap more reward than others. But this is, of course, only because they have worked harder and longer.
