True, the more traditional and old-schoolish type games are out of date, but then again most are available for consoles. Arcades are more advanced because logicaly, its the things that are either to expensive to be made for personal at home use or just way too complicated. Most arcade shooting games are pretty lame at home, and DDR won't really get the same effect without a huge stereo system. I've yet to see a driving wheel that doesn't look lame. You still get the same sort of fighting game feel at home, for a lower price, than at an arcade. At least for me.
Also, regognize the fact that games like DDR, Time Crisis, etc... are a bit more group friendly than a simple little joystick. They also add more variety thus opening options for more people, and are usually just plain cool. Don't get me wrong, classics are cool and all, but heavily popularized games evolve to the common taste.
God, I bet half that stuff didn't make sense. There's typing with chronic headahces and sleep deprivision for you.
