Are Traditional Arcade Games a lost cause nowadays???
Are Traditional Arcade Games dead? It feels like it is. Gone are the days of the Joystick and button games. Look at some of the games now. Dancing Games, Driving Games, Shooting Games, Horse Racing, Fishing and even Musical Games (Drums/Guitar). But something like Street Fighter just isn't as popular nowadays because it's almost too simple for an arcade. And because these Traditional Arcade Games can be on consoles they loose their popularity. Like it or not if it isn't different, it's going to be hard to be popular.

Not really, i love playing Street Fighter and Tekken and all those fighting games, but the world is changing and people want more variety of things to play and using more body parts.

True, the more traditional and old-schoolish type games are out of date, but then again most are available for consoles. Arcades are more advanced because logicaly, its the things that are either to expensive to be made for personal at home use or just way too complicated. Most arcade shooting games are pretty lame at home, and DDR won't really get the same effect without a huge stereo system. I've yet to see a driving wheel that doesn't look lame. You still get the same sort of fighting game feel at home, for a lower price, than at an arcade. At least for me.
Also, regognize the fact that games like DDR, Time Crisis, etc... are a bit more group friendly than a simple little joystick. They also add more variety thus opening options for more people, and are usually just plain cool. Don't get me wrong, classics are cool and all, but heavily popularized games evolve to the common taste. God, I bet half that stuff didn't make sense. There's typing with chronic headahces and sleep deprivision for you. |
I accidentally voted no instead of yes but now I think about it I will stick with my vote. I downloaded Metal Slug and Metal Slug about a year ago, as I kept wasting money on that cheap yet awesome game, and it just wasn't the same. Maybe it was because I couldn't stop myself loading invisible money into it, therefore cheating, and ruining the fun.
This story came out all bad and I don't even think I really know what you are talking about so yeah... |
I agree that arcades have been going downhill, but I like some inter-active games (like DDR and Police 24/7)
But when you get "Virtual pheasant hunting" and a fire-fighter simulator, I think it reached the end |
:
all the tekkens are now on PS and PS2. and the arcade games are fun and all but they do get old. |
Most of the joystick and button game are gone because you can play it at home with your PS or dreamcast or wat eva console you have... the only arcade stuff left or games that cannot be played using consoles... what am i talking about?

Hell no! My Atari sits snugly between my SNES and my Dreamcast downstairs, and I still enjoy playing games like Donkey Kong and Pitfall on it. Screw 3D man!

Hello Wolfpac. I think that sometimes older arcade games are neglected in arcades, but there are still people who do enjoy playing them. Like fighting games still seem popular, but some games like Tetris and some games where you are flying a spaceship and have to shoot things are very out dated and people do not play them much.
I do like the interactive games the best. They are fun to play with your friends, as everyone can watch each other and join in. I like playing dance games the best, as they are really fun. :) |
