Varrok's right. They should keep the visor for just AO and then use the bullshit depth perception reasoning to change it in later games.

I don't know whether informations from
http://oddworld.wikia.com/wiki/Slig are reliable, so I'll stand aside from its arguments, but I think the visors from AO are a good design choice, not only because they look a little grim and disturbing, just like AO's supposed to be.
A slig wearing this might have a little problem looking up and down... but, be honest, they never ever do it in AO... there's no need anyway, mudokons can't fly or swim, so they should always be at the eye level (or on a ledge, but you can't see/shoot through it, so it's not necessary to see them there)
The improved eyesight masks are justified in AE, because there are flying sligs, who wouldn't be able to do their job without it. And there are mines... you usually mine down the earth, not straight
If I was a nit-picker, I'd notice the mud is not scrubbing the wall as he should, but floor instead
