That's probably because it's the worst environmental disaster in US history, but sadly not the worst environmental disaster (or even the worst oil spill) in world history overall.

I've been getting my news updates, just like I learn about everything else going on in the US, from The Daily Show.

Of course, it's worth mentioning that the company working the rig when it exploded was American.

BP blamed the company working the rig. The company blamed their contractor who actually installed the pipe. That contractor... was Halliburton, and everyone's happy to blame them for everything.
