Abes Oddysee Demo ps1/psx

I remember someone one here said they saw an error saying "Can't find id for lever" or something in the play station version of the demo. So...

I found my very very old version of the demo on the "Demo 1" cd from like 1996 or something and had a look at what strings are in it. I could not see the level id string thing anywhere Does this mean there is more than one version of the demo floating around out there?

But on the other hand I found these interesting strings that might give some clues to things that where removed if anyone knows anything about them

Some interesting things you've found there, (I'd love to know where I can find the Demo 1 to run it through an emulator and find the hidden screens etc :P) have you looked at the .CAM files for the demo by any chance?

if you want to know whether there's another demo that has AO on it, i have an old PS1 demo with both AO & AE on it, along with 2 other games. doesn't have the proper case so going by what's said on the disc, its a compilation of GT interactive software games, 1998. no actual name on it.

dunno how this could help anyway, other than you knowing for definite that there's another AO demo.

If you could get the MD5 hash of the demo's exe to see if its the same or not that would be cool. Or a file listing maybe.

@TheAdmiester I can't view the cam files since as in mario where the princess is in another castle, the cam files are in another format, boo!

Edit: Actually comparing file names could be enough to check if there are any extra screens, but you wouldn't know if any of the SAME screens have different content

Hmm I didn't know that, it would be interesting to know what the "fire from above" is.

It seems that all the words are Capitalized, in this case, it means they were firefly messages, you know, when abe chants. And fire from above? It would be cool if there were fire. they have obviously taken all the files from the work in progress, made a demo executable, remove unnessesary files, then forgot that strings from other levels are in a file. Thats what i think.

Some of these, or messages very similar to them, are in the final game, including ‘Farewell Elum’ and ‘Blow bombs with spirit rings’. Spirit rings are presumably the red rings that cause machines to explode, though it's never actually stated that's their name. ‘Spirit lights’ are new, as is ‘fire from above’. And the ‘Remember the song’ message may mean the player originally had to ring the bells of a chimelock manually.

I thought that too (if you mean what I think you mean ), but then I thought that it might just be a slig firing at you, not an actual fire.

Actually that wouldn't surprise me at all. I always felt the game was designed that way.

Me too AND it annoyed me when I already knew the bell song and it wouldn't let me do it manually! (Well you can but it won't matter if its right or not)

Edit: After looking in the lvl archives I do feel compelled to reverse the psx cam formats.. there is one level thats never used that only has 3 screens in it. Also check out the ban file names.. some strange ones! Another strange thing is that in this demo they only BLY files instead of paths in BND's

Edit: There IS a sound of a slig saying "STAY" though :O

I think i do, when you kill a slig with the lever that make that crushing thing go down and blow up the slig, it makes a mooshy sound when it dies. ??

Delayed response here, but I was joking. I didn't mean to say it was "S'mo BS", I meant I couldn't make out any intelligible words, so it might as well be another nonsense sound.

or it might be a prototype for get him,fires from above,seems like hide from rocks or from something that can smash you or something,or bees.
