COULD be a PROBLEM

This may be a problem for some of us, Xbox put out an artical today about
unsafe power cords on many boxes. If this is not the right forum will the mods.
please move it to the correct one.

If the link does not work, you know the drill, copy and paste in your browser

It involves some 14 million Xboxes. Could yours be one??

If you're not in the US, just go to your local xbox website (.com.au/.co.uk/whatever) and follow the links. So nice of Microsoft to worry about their customers dying a horrible flaming death.

I don't think I've seen an Xbox turn gay as of yet, so rest assured, you are safe

As for the more serious topic, I'm amazed, and admittedly, glad that Microsoft have actually taken action. It just seems so out of character, and I doubt the lawsuits they could face from power cord failure are so great that they pose a thread to Microsoft - so why? Kindness? Or the battle to beat the PlayStation? Either way, I'm getting a replacement because I like the way they design stuff :P

Microsoft have always had a good track history making sure Xboxes are safe and working. Back when people were still loudly denouncing a games console by MS, I heard tales of how rapidly repair crews picked up broken Xboxes and fixed and returned them.

I ordered the new cables as soon as I read that they were free.

Heh, have got my Xbox from the start, so no new cables for me, but when it DID break down, due to overheating, I sent it to the repairing factory, and I got it back in 2 days, with an extra bonus of a free sticker (wow), a CD case, and an Xbox beanie! Talk about service!

Damn. I was under the impression this problem only appeard in recently manufactured Xbox consoles. I was surprised after reading the email they sent me, that this affects only the older ones. I purchased mine a month after it was released, so it's probably in my best interest to uptain these replacement cords. Just finished placing my order, hopefully my Xbox can be salvaged.

I wonder where this leaves my Xbox. My Xbox was purchased on release, so it is very likely affected by the problem. Although being in Australia, will Microsoft recognize that I have a US Xbox?

How about- heres a radical idea- use different power chords? I have never, once used my Xbox power cord. They are just standard power cords, so when I lost my Xbox one, I just stole the one from my schools printer. Works a charm. Or just buy one from an electrical store- they are pretty darn cheap. I don't want to wait for a week or so for them to send me a cord I already own...

Why would I buy new cords, it's Microsofts problem. My Xbox hasn't burst into flames since I got it years ago so, I'm not worried.

Microsoft are too retarded to understand complex things like that. I got my power cords today, but despite clearly living in the U.K., mine had a Continental plug, so I can't even use it. It was even sent to me from within the U.K.! Morons, or what?

:

That'll be because a power cord grabbed from any other device is even less safe.

That's actually really…bad reasoning. My house has never burnt to the ground with me inside it, either, but you don't see me throwing away my smoke detector.

Abe Babe...
when you order the cord, you put in the serial number thingy on the bottom of the Xbox, which determines if your Xbox is in danger of poofing, or if your Xbox is, indeed, a U.S. model. If your's is a U.S. model, I'm sure they'll send you some.

I literally got mine 2 days after I ordered. THEM MICROSOFTS IS FAST

EDIT: although, what Max's cord situation shows, is that it's not guaranteed to work.

Thanks for the info Sligster! I'll try that. I guess if they won't send a US cord to Australia, I can always get them to ship it to my friend in the US and have them send it to me.

Max, how so would the cables be even less safe? I am positive that all of the Xbox power cables are just salvaged cords from their PC models, you know, to save money. If they did make new ones- that was a pointless waste of several dollars. Ah well.

Futhermore, I shall not be ordering a replacement cable anytime soon. If I haven't experienced any abnormailities at all, I think it is nout to worry about. This whole issue may have been brought up becuase some stupid child left his or her Xbox on for 18 hours, then then exclaimed "Hey, Mum, my Xbox is sort of on, fire.". I'm going to worry about something as petty as this... :-O

Got a letter in the mail yesterday about this (though I'd already read about it online). Nice that MS actually took the time to mail (snail mail at that) about this. I own 2 Xboxes and one power cord will be replaced, although I am not even using the original Xbox power chord either.

Well seeing there is no cost involved in obtaining a replacement cord [or is there? I haven't got as far as ordering yet, but it appears to be for free], I really don't see why you wouldn't want to obtain one. I mean if something is free, it's not costing you anything.

It's free, you don't even have to send in the old one, they are just mass replacing them if the console is older than Oct 2003.

And I agree, I'm definitely getting mine!
