It always strikes me as hypocritical. Cause on one hand there is this big deal about Kaaza [and Napster before that]. But on the other hand lots of companies promote not only mp3s, but also burning songs onto CD.
Some examples:
Microsoft - Windows media player has integration to burn music to CD
Creative - their soundcards come with software that allows you to rip songs from CD to mp3
Hardware companies like Dell, Sony, Apple, etc - all manufacture mp3 players
If those aren't promoting the use of mp3s, then what is. mp3s are becoming so common these days, that to say that they are illegal is almost laughable.
One amusing thing that recently happened in Australia is that an Internet company, Bigpond, are advertising you can download mp3s legally [of course you have to pay]. But after you have downloaded them, then what's to say you don't give them to your friends or file share them on Kaaza.
As for me, yes ... I have lots of mp3s ... over 700. Most of these are Final Fantasy music, of which I own the soundtracks anyways. There is also some Jpop and Jrock which is hard to get over here [and I don't want to just buy a random CD on import if I mightn't just like it], a few Metallica tracks [again I own the originals, in some cases more than once]. The remainder is some other VG or anime music that a friend sent me and a few commercial rock/pop songs that I happen to like, but wouldn't have any interest in the buying the artist's full album ... as I mostly don't like commercial [or even modern] music now days.
