If Kazaa is stealing...

why don't these musical rights crusaders whine about programs like Media Payer and free videos off the net? I'm listening to free songs right now And there isn't a damn thing anyone can do about it. Not only that, I'm getting a music video for FREE. So these people should stop whining about Kazaa and P2P and get after this kind of stuff. That is, if they were serious.

Sekto Springs 02-23-2004 02:28 PM

I don't know why you made a thread on this. Despite all these warnings about fines and arrests for Kazaa-users people still use Kazaa and often. I personally don't use Kazaa (too many damn pop-ups), I'm a WinMX guy. I mean who gives a f*ck? What, are the cops gonna bust down my door, beat the shit out of me, drag to the PD, and say i was illegally downloading music? f*ck the police, dude! f*ck them right in the ear!

s'cuse my language

Majic 02-23-2004 06:58 PM

Hehe... F*ck the police... Good NWA song, eh? How bout' it?

The music industry is a very complicated creation. The most commonly used recepie involves taking bullshit, mixing it with some dust, adding some yeast, letting it rise, and then mixing that with shitty filler notes that all song alike within every song.

Now of course, anyone who uses this is a dumbass who doesn't have any logic, so when they complain about their favorite recipies being stolen, the incoherence carries over. Thus, nothing makes since over why some overhyped people are losing a couple bucks, and the world slowly comes to a halt for the musical judgement day.

So thus, I conclude, the music industry isn't to be comprehended by anyone living outside of the ignorant realms that comsume it.

Heh heh. I've got an awesome sticker on my school binder. It has R.I.A.A. with a big red slash across it. Simple, but effective. I have the corresponding T-shirt, too. And as I type this, I listen to a whole digital library of dowloaded music my sister and I have collected over a few years of using Kazaa. When the playlist ends, I'm going to watch a downloaded clip from Kids in the Hall. It's not stuff that's hurting the industry-- it's either real old stuff, non-mainstream stuff that I could never find in stores, or like 1 song by a band whose other songs suck. Whatever it is, it's definitely not stuff that is going to take money away from other people by having been downloaded (as if that was a valid argument anyway). Downloading free media rocks! Yeah! Pass it on! *thumbs up*

Joshy 02-23-2004 09:58 PM

I hate kazaa currently, i'm trying to download a stupid movie and it took me ages to find somebody with a decent bandwith to download it off. Now its going at .02kb. wow its just going to take me (looks at kazaa) 2365 hours to download. Thats right, i'll be 54 year old by then.

Splat 02-24-2004 06:34 AM

Well half the songs i look for arent on the thing anyway. I wanna know why if they hate it so much they don't just stuff the flippin thing full of viruses and shut it down? Arrest the bloomin people who started it in the first place! i don't think the police are very serious about it, even if the music dudes are.

if downloading music was illegal and wrong why the hell is there Mini Disks the sole purpose is to upload music from the net to your disks (it said so on the package of a MD recorder) i mean it comes with a software that allows you to copy music from CD to PC perfectly which you can use to upload on the net for people to download

The only reason they give you the ability to download music from the internet onto the MD is because you can buy music off the internet, and i think they're the people they're aiming it at.

Every song I have on my playlist is downloaded off the Internet (free of course).

And you're right Majic, **** the police is a brilliant "Ni**ers with attitude" tune.

It always strikes me as hypocritical. Cause on one hand there is this big deal about Kaaza [and Napster before that]. But on the other hand lots of companies promote not only mp3s, but also burning songs onto CD.

Some examples:
Microsoft - Windows media player has integration to burn music to CD
Creative - their soundcards come with software that allows you to rip songs from CD to mp3
Hardware companies like Dell, Sony, Apple, etc - all manufacture mp3 players

If those aren't promoting the use of mp3s, then what is. mp3s are becoming so common these days, that to say that they are illegal is almost laughable.

One amusing thing that recently happened in Australia is that an Internet company, Bigpond, are advertising you can download mp3s legally [of course you have to pay]. But after you have downloaded them, then what's to say you don't give them to your friends or file share them on Kaaza.

As for me, yes ... I have lots of mp3s ... over 700. Most of these are Final Fantasy music, of which I own the soundtracks anyways. There is also some Jpop and Jrock which is hard to get over here [and I don't want to just buy a random CD on import if I mightn't just like it], a few Metallica tracks [again I own the originals, in some cases more than once]. The remainder is some other VG or anime music that a friend sent me and a few commercial rock/pop songs that I happen to like, but wouldn't have any interest in the buying the artist's full album ... as I mostly don't like commercial [or even modern] music now days.

Abe Babe...

You guys allready know what I think about this...

What I think

I do think it is true that the music industry needs to get their act together and get orginized if they want respect...and results.

Yeah, you hate burning and downloading, but what about listening to music for free of the 'net? For instance, Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul just formed a new band called Damageplan. I wanted to see if Dimebag could still slay before I bought the new album so I searched out a couple of their songs. In less than 10 minutes I found two songs off of this relatively new record, downloaded them with Media Player, and enjoyed the hell out of 'em. I didn't even pay a dime! How is this not stealing? How does this not undermine the industry that you hold so dear? Also, companies like Microsoft really shouldn't promote this kind of stuff. Why doesn't the R.I.A.A. maul them?

oddguy 02-24-2004 12:11 PM

Well, usually a couple of songs are released off an album so people can decide if they want the entire CD. I've got no problem with that.

-oddguy :fuzcool:

Statikk HDM 02-25-2004 10:35 AM

Why not? Isn't it the same as just burning a single off of a record that is bathing in filler notes and crap songs? Also,I've found that it usually is not just a song or 2. In fact, I've listened to the better parts of ENTIRE ALBUMS and I've yet to pay one cent.

oddguy 02-25-2004 12:05 PM

It's fine if a band releases a couple songs from their album. If they release most of their songs and keep a couple secret on the CD, then they're stupid. I mean, really.

the RIAA Can kiss my ass. I've got a huge ass liberary on a external hard drive, along with a pirated version of CS. And hell yes: **** the police.

Lucipher 02-26-2004 11:38 AM

I hate the police and I think that downloading music is a brilliant idea that will destroy the music industry.

Here's the thing about Kazaa:
It sucks balls.
My father is a computer technician, and in the past year he worked on dozens and dozens of computers. Nearly all of them had Kazaa on it. And, not coincidentally, these same computers had really nasty viruses and tons of spyware.]
So WinMX is the way to go. Screw Kazaa.

Sekto Springs 03-06-2004 05:20 PM

WinMX all the way. F*ck kazaa in all it's holes!

Hence, why I got rid of KaZaA. I got rid of it, and then remembered 2 songs I wanted taht I was unable to find online. So I reinstalled it, and ended up having to clera off quite a deal of cookies and entirely pointless programs, along with their registry keys. And speaking of adware type stuff... It's about that time again for me to boot up Ad-Aware to clean up everything I've gotten in the past week or so.
