*cringes* As a web-designer, my pet hate is web pages that are done in Word! I hate them with a passion. Sometimes people cut and paste stuff from Word to FrontPage, and that is just as bad.
Why do I hate Word for web pages so much... because it ads so much crap and rubbish to the HTML that is not needed. If you understand HTML, look at the source code of a page done in Word and you'll see why. So much crap, it's not funny.
Anyways, I do a lot of my pages in FrontPage (the day Microsoft adds Word coding to FrontPage, I will curse), as my site(s) are often quite complex and the tables get messed up if being coded. However, I do simple pages in HTML and also like to look at the source code to fix problems that FrontPage doesn't notice.
I would have suggested a HTML Help site... but Lampion already beat me too it.
Oddite... it's nice that you want advice from me, but believe me, start basic. I've been doing web-design for 5 years and it is also part of my job at work.

One guy at work tried to start with complex stuff... and he spends half a day trying to fix a table!!! And then I usually have to look at it for him!!! I wish you good luck with your site.
