As Zozo pointed out, autism or Aspergers may be mental conditions but many people who have them actually prefer being that way because it gives them abilities that so-called 'normal' people don't.
In the case of Aspergers, people can often have extremely high intelligence and the ability to focus exclusively on one task without being distracted. On example I heard about recently was Bram Cohen, who developed the BitTorrent technology over several years in his spare time.
