You can make your own movies in Steef!
Yes you heard it true infact Lorne says it on the XFactor which I truely thank Oddsville for sending me a copy in the mail.
Anyway you know what this means? It means that Oddworld will be the first to cross games into movies. WOW that sounds exciteing. Basically what Lanning was going on about was that in previous games there was the story told in CG and then there was the Gameplay which did not tell a story in its self. Now here comes Steef and there will be a story in CG and also (drum role) in the gameplay. Wow he wants it to be like watching a movie but playing the game at the same time. So thats controling your own movies and pushing your character through the story. That is exciteing, what do you think? And which brings me to the point of this thread. What will the difficulty be since the game will be like that? Think of all the different kind of emotions that might be in this game. |
hmmm calm down, I think Lorne just mean that the story will also be told in the gameplay, like in Halo where Cortana give you new info's while you are playing, and things like that.
don't expect something too grandiose, or else you will be disapointed |
ok, we have plenty of threads about steef! just post stuff like this in the "steef's oddysee its here" thread

Hmmm...i didn't really understand what PA was about...but it would make sense about what Xavier stated. Although unless Lorne is thinking of doing what Capcom did with the RE: Nemesis game, were you got a decision...but this time you get the decision in CG...that would be quite good...

Well this could be a ground breaker in games. By the fact that you would be able to control your character through the story where its like, watching your own movie as oppose to Munch.
But hey! |
Im not holding my breath until I actually see it, otherwise Im afraid I will be disappointed again. I understand that OWI was under a tight schedule to finish munch, but MO was supposed to be a huge groundbreaking new experience in a full simulation of oddworld. Unfortunately it didnt happen.

If what you're saying is true, then that would be amazing! But I'm pretty sure that won't be happening for a few games. If they were going to do that, it would take quite a bit of time...
It sounds a little like Final Fantasy X doesn't it? ~Miss Odd Serenity |

us that it's moving to XBOX, we all expected more, and I don't want that to happen again! |
My interpretation was that its more of moving your character through the storyline, kind of like you taking the place of a person in a movie. I think you got a little excited and thought he was implying that the movies are actual gameplay or something. Calm yourself a bit, child, and just wait. I have to agree with Xav here.

Xav, is kinda right. I think it was obvious that Lorne was talking about using the "IN GAME ENGINE" to do the cut scenes. If they totaly tweak the game engine then the cut scenes will meld in with the graphics of the game.
Anyone remember the cut scenes in Tomb Raider on the PS1!? They used this same method for Halo (like Xav hinted at) using the engine for all of the cut scenes. |
Interesting idea, there. I always absolutely despised this method of creating cut-scenes. I really, really hope that's not what Lorne meant. I've always loved Oddworld for the beautiful FMVs and CG sequences, but even though the in-game engine appears to be shaping up remarkably well, it would still not compete, in my eyes, with proper fully rendered movies.

The only game I have seen that makes in game cut scenes work, and look good has been halo. Plus if any of you saw the e3 footage of halo 2, and they still use in game cutscenes that look awesome with that overhauled graphics, you would think they are real cg.
Anyways back to topic, I personally have always liked having cutscenes in Oddworld so I hope they are still in full cg, especially if they look anything like that river scene from the x factor. What they need to do more of is like AO. For example when you beat the stockyards and fall of the cliff it shows abe jump down etc, and it shows how he got from point a to point b, and to the next level. In MO, they didnt do that. It was just gamplay, go to teleporter, cutscene or newspaper. They never showed how you got from one factory to another, another thing I liked in AE too. The train sequences between levels from feeco. So when I think he says movies in that x factor, he means more like what they did in AO and AE. Edit: Forgot to add, what they did in AO and AE with connecting gameplay to videos. Showing how you got from one area to the next. |
