How the heck are we going to die?!

In the previous games, I always thought it was cool when you died. You kind of turned to dust, then sparkles (?) came out of you and turned to birds that flew away. Do you think it will be the same way in Munches Oddysee? I hope so! I cant think of any other cool looking ways to die..

Pacen 04-19-2001 11:36 PM

I thought it was very cool in Abe's Games how he turned into birds which flew away and combined into him again, it made it more realistic with the unlimited lives aspect. I'm not sure how they'd do it with Munch's games but it would be more difficult because there are 2 main characters. What happens when one dies? Certainly you couldn't just continue controlling one character because you need them both, so they'd both have to die/restart that part.

Elum 04-20-2001 01:26 AM

I hope they keep the birds concept.

Maybe...when one dies...the birds fly around for a minute and come back. I guess we will just have to see.

Oddipus 04-20-2001 10:40 AM

About dying:

We already know you don't die immediatly, you can resist a few bullets or other threatening things. But how can you restore your health? Do you have to use a little chant power, eat something special, let a shaman cure you, or will Abe be able to use his power to heal Muds sick from brew also to cure himself and Munch?

ODDBODD 04-20-2001 12:32 PM

I think that Abe has a little life bar somewhere on the screen. It only comes up when abe/munch get hurt from bullets, large falls and being pecked by woopi8ng monkeys.
When they heal each other i think that they walk around and slowly their life begins to regrow, i seen that in a couple of games.
Or they have to eat/drink something speacial.

Look at this:

Oddities

Go to the bottom. Open the vending machine pic. One of the machines is titled B-Betters. This machine must heal you in some way.

Maybe the B-Betterz heal you like in really old games how when you get food you gain more health. I don't like that idea though, you'd think OWI would be more original than that so I hope I'm wrong.

Elum 04-20-2001 10:38 PM

B Betters. Thats a cool name. But I think having some power to heal would be cool.

Lantra 04-21-2001 12:00 AM

mabye munch will exlode in a flash of lighting. you know once his is implant thing is destroyed.

Osiris The Fleech 04-21-2001 12:19 AM

Maybe.

Danny 04-21-2001 12:08 PM

i think if one character dies the other has to find a shaman or something who can bring him back to life.

Silversnow 04-21-2001 12:44 PM

Yeah, like *Oops, Abe died, i have to get out, find a shaman, get in, get Abes corpse out, go to the shaman, wake Abe up, get in again*. Uhm, i think that will make it a bit too complicated. :D

Pacen 04-21-2001 12:45 PM

I disagree Rettick, if this were the case you could easily get stuck, unable to pass certain puzzles requiring both characters. If one character dies, they won't both necessarily die but you will have to restart somewhere with both characters, I doubt you could play for any length of time with one character if the other dies. Just my opinion though.

Danny 04-21-2001 12:50 PM

well, let's wait and see...

Oddipus 04-21-2001 12:55 PM

I read somewhere that their won't be stupid lifebars on the screen. Maybe the effect of suffering will be more real like: changing color, walking slow, high temperature (although you can't feel that on your screen!), talking weird, ...

Pacen 04-21-2001 12:58 PM

Maybe as your health gets lower, the pitch of your voice gets higher, like when mudokons kill themselves in AE, as they get closer to death, there "ouch" noises get higher in pitch. Just a thought.

dumboddrw2 04-21-2001 03:18 PM

That sounds cool. This is kinda off-topic,but it would be cool if you could use a cardboard box like in Metal Gear Solid! He He He!

iliodd 04-21-2001 03:18 PM

That's what I was thinking Pacen, that your voice goes up when you're hurt. Maybe since they have more room to do creative things in this game, your voice might not be higher but instead sound injured or sick... just a thought.

Wil 04-21-2001 03:55 PM

No, there won't be anything on screen other than the gameplay. Er, that's during gameplay, though. Urg...

I didn't realise that the vending machine powerup idea wasn't original in Munch's Oddysee. In previous games you've had to stand on things, press a button, or shoot lots of rats (gotta love Theme Hospital). Hmm, oh well.

Don't forget the health states - all creatures have a number of health states. Sligs range from healthy, through 'first aid kit', 'emergency room' and 'intensive care', to, finally, 'in the afterlife'.

Danny 04-21-2001 06:35 PM

i haven't heard THAT one before!

Lampion 04-21-2001 06:53 PM

you may have noticed that Abe, and the other mudokons no longer have that kind pocket in the back of their loincloth, where, presumably, abe carry bones, meat, and granades, in the first two games.

The original idea of AO and AE was to have a inventary option, like many other games, but that idea was discarded to make gameplay easier.

Now, in MO, Abe doesnt seem to have where to carry objects. Maybe he wont be able to do that, so that avery time he needs something, like a cup of expresso, he will have to look for and find a expresso vending machine.

About the way Abe dies, it was mentioned that the game will be able to be configured before you start to play it, making the gameplay easier or harder. this way, bullets could hurt like tennis balls(making Abe resist longer shooting sequences) or kill in the first hit.

About the self-healing process, I guess the fleeches example of how that works will be used again. abe can resist a few fleeches attack, then run away. If he got hit before a predetermined numbers of seconds had elapsed, he dies, otherwise, he can resist a few attacks again, and so on.

Maybe Abe just dies, becoming a bunch of birds, or maybe he wont, just getting addicted and arrested, instead. for example: if abe is shot by a big bro slig using blitzpackerz machine gun, the same thing that happened to a wild mudokon being hit by a blitzpacers shooting machine, in one of OWI movies, will happen to Abe. Or maybe abe is imune to that product, and the other, after all, Abe could drink soulstorm brew in AE, withou getting addicted, he just farted explosive farts

Danny 04-21-2001 06:57 PM

i understand about the self-healing, but what happens when one character dies?

Dakkan Blackblade 04-21-2001 09:39 PM

I don't think he will turn into birds like abe because like the birds we're like the portals he used... I think there will be a totally new death thingy for him.

ODDBODD 04-22-2001 09:36 AM

Maybe he just flops on the ground and you hear the famouse "BUM BUM BUM BUM BA BA!!!" like you do when abe dies.

My theory goes with pacman. Whenever abe gets hurt his voice gets higher (fleeches, slaps). And he dies and shrivells and the bird thingy happens and the usual "BUM BUM BUM BUM BA BA!!!" music comes.

When munch dies i guess the light on his port goes out and he just falls saying "oooow!" or "aaargh". and shrivells up.

With healing i think as you walk around and develop your life bar gradually grows back, but there may be other ways to speed it up. As in the b betterz.

i like fuzzles

Hey dumbodd that will be cool, if abe had a cardboard box and sneak around the place.

SLIG: whats that sound
*walks to box*
SLIG: just a box
*walks away*

Or you can go with the usual ketchup.
*puts ketchup on ground*
SLIG: huh?
*slig runs to "dead" abe*
SLIG: freeze
*abe snaps the sligs neck*
MERYL: abe your the best
OTACON: i needa pee
