Sports

i know most of you are probably thinking "i fucking hate sports/that shit is boring" but the amount of different sports is staggering. i honestly believe there is a sport out there for everyone, not necessarily playing, perhaps watching. there must be some kind of sport that appeals to you, no matter how diverse it may be.

i really enjoy watching darts, horse racing, tennis and clay pigeon shooting. i get on with football, rugby and boxing but won't usually watch it given the choice. i really can't get into cricket. i've tried, i just can't. i can't get my head around it. a sport where you need a fucking index to understand the scores doesn't get my attention i'm afraid. i hate watching car or motorbike racing as i find it boring as hell, same with cycling and running.

as for things i enjoy actually playing, i like cricket (the simple version) and French cricket, i love badminton and don't mind pool. i can't play darts and i've never been very good at football. believe it or not i used to be fucking great at athletics whilst at school, but i fucked my knee up a few years back so i can't run anymore, hence the beer belly and my interest in boxing to get rid of it.

i wouldn't really class it as a sport, but i fucking love playing cards, especially poker. i don't gamble big, i usually just play for small change. also dominoes, that's a decent betting game.

anywho, discuss.

Mudokon_Master 04-14-2012 05:49 PM

I used to be pretty good at long jump and high jump. Actually, I'm pretty damn good at jumping. I just like to jump.
Everything else is boring to me. Sometimes I like to watch tennis on TV to laugh at it.

Phylum 04-14-2012 07:21 PM

I'm horrible at sports.

In recent years I've started watching and enjoying Australian football. I'd probably enjoy it more if my team wasn't playing so awfully. Since we now have a sports channel we get Gridiron, which I love, and baseball, which I enjoy in moderation.

Mudokon_Master 04-14-2012 08:39 PM

You mean AFL? I don't see why everyone hates that. I think it's far more interesting than any other football.

Who is this 'everyone' of which you speak?

Mudokon_Master 04-14-2012 10:01 PM

I suppose maybe it's a Queensland thing? Over here, AFL is considered to be a pussy's football. Actually people call it gAyFL.

Phylum 04-14-2012 11:56 PM

I hear people call it that here, too.

Because we don't play rugby in SA we generally like AFL more, especially now that the Crows are playing well. Personally I'm a Power supporter, but I do like the Crows. Today's 54 point loss was a tad disappointing.

Crashpunk 04-15-2012 12:44 AM

Yeah I'm not a sporty person at all, PE at school was the only time I ever did sports and I think its going to remain that way.

Saying that though I did enjoy playing Squash, Baseball and Badminton when I did.. I wasn't very good but I liked to give them a go. :) I despise Football though. I fucking hate that sport.

Dynamithix 04-15-2012 12:52 AM

Well, I like to play basketball with a friend or two at summer but other than that I'm not that good at it.

I also really like swimming alone or with a friend at the beach nearby but other than that not really. I always get made fun of for being fat so I rather only swim with a few good friends at summer than go to a swimming pool or something like that.

I hate running. I like some sports but I am terrible at running for long periods, that's why I hope we're not having the cooper test at our school...

Can't wait for summer, I really want to just swim everyday. I did that last summer and the summer(s) before that. Woo.

e: Oh yeah, and as Crashpunk mentioned, badminton is nice even though I'm no master at it.

enchilado 04-15-2012 01:00 AM

Why is French cricket called French cricket? I played it with a French lady once, and she'd never even heard of it.

OddjobAbe 04-15-2012 01:31 AM

I like darts, because it's fucking funny. I've said before, the contrast between the dramatic hype and melodramatic names and the actual chubby and hairy appearance of the players makes me piss myself.

I like horse racing most for the mistakes involved. I saw the Grand National yesterday, and not only did one jockey fall off his horse (which bounded on before they caught it) before it even started, but there were two false starts. It was hilarious.

I used to like fell running, but I haven't done it for a long time. I sometimes still go hiking, though.

JennyGenesis 04-15-2012 02:37 AM

You all know what sort of sports I like, i don't even have to state it.

OddjobAbe 04-15-2012 02:53 AM

Pretending to drive cars on video games?

MeechMunchie 04-15-2012 03:45 AM

I like swimming and volleyball. Though that might be because I'm the tallest person on my volleyball team by about two feet.

STM 04-15-2012 04:44 AM

Two feet aye? A lot of 4 foot midgets on your volley ball team then?

Let me see, I do enjoy playing sports, and activity in general, but then that's juxtaposed against my nature as a lazy sod who doesn't like to leave his bedroom unless he has to. Back in the day, I'd play rugby every Sunday, but a variety of things killed that for me. When I was in secondary school I'd play football every lunch time almost everyday for about two years, cant say I was very good but it was fun. I'd like to play sevens or league now, but unfortunately, when my metabolism sped up and my body looked even vaguely athletic, my stamina packed its bags and now lives somewhere in the south of France, far far away from me.

I think I should get back into cycling, I loved biking but since I lost my tyre pump, I haven't been able to use my bike. If I could get a few friends together, I'd really love to try cycling to somewhere far away and back, not necessarily Scotland, but maybe the Pennines or something. Unfortunately out of the sixty or so people I hand out with, literally one of them still enjoys cycling, because...if it's not weed, it's not fun any more right? ¬_¬

Yes. They are all girls to be fair.

I like playing a little game of baseball or American FUTBAWL with cousins or friends. I LOVE golf and Bowling, though. Only sports where you can eat, drink and smoke while you play. Golf is also great to have on if you're at a bar because it's really easy to follow.

I played just about every sport growing up, hated all of 'em except baseball. Football, didn't start soon enough, Hockey, started too late to get along with my team, Ball Hockey, I was never a runner and signing me up for that was just stupid.

Dixanadu 04-15-2012 11:36 AM

I follow football and rugby. I also watch snooker when it's on. Just finished Chelsea destroy Tottenham, good times.

As for partaking, played quite a lot of football when I was in secondary school. I'm also good at pool/snooker.

right? what was that all about? i watched the Grand National and couldn't help laughing at the blokes face as he was trying to hook the line up while the horses just kept running through it. i couldn't work out whether he was laughing or in pain.

i like bowling. we played golf in school and i just couldn't get the hang of it. it's so much harder than it looks. for me, anyway.

i'm wank at pool but i like playing it. same with darts.

to be honest i'm shit at most sports i've tried. except cricket. i fucking love whaling the ball in cricket. rounders and baseball, on the other hand, i cannot abide.

Ridg3 04-16-2012 01:21 AM

I love sports, even if I don't like watching most sports I would love to try most, if not all, sports. I really want to take Kickboxing up again to, at least, finish it. Currently, I'm on brown belt second dan, the next black. I also love playing darts, golf, football, pool/snooker and basketball although, nowadays, my only sport is getting out of bed.

This. I do love watching Darts on the TV because hearing "180" said by a load of drunk supporters is just gold. :D

OANST 04-17-2012 12:22 PM

I'm taking Abbey to a professional basketball game tonight.

SPORTS!

Remember that game of basketball we had? That was one poor misinterpreted joke away from a brawl.

Mac Sirloin 04-19-2012 02:11 PM

why this hasn't motherfucking been shit posted yet goddammit

Bullet Magnet 04-19-2012 02:36 PM

My school was very big on sports, which makes the sheer effort they went to beating it out of me quite bewildering.

My negative view of sports is as much Pavlovian as anything else.

I enjoyed that, but I'm sure none of the other members watching that had any idea what the hell was going on. :p

Phylum 04-19-2012 07:55 PM

The water-polo video is probably easier for the non-Aussies to grasp.

Nate 04-20-2012 05:08 AM

I think even most Aussies would struggle with the first one if they hadn't seen Roy and HG commentate gymnastics before.

I remember that. I wonder who thought is was a good idea to get all the lazy smokers up out of their pits to do some intense running and jumping.

I was glistening come the end of it, I could have slid home.
