Edge: The Making Of... Oddworld

Edge has published an article called: The Making Of... Oddworld.
Didn't have time to read it yet but that doesn't mean you should not enjoy it yet :p

"Gnarlybebb."

Very interesting, nothing to new but always good to read interviews! The article seems so random and out of the blue, why?

I can't believe making games is such a struggle. I'm glad they do though!

I think Lannings decision to move into films is the wisest thing for Oddworld. Oddworld from the beginning was alweys ment to be for the big screen. Games were great but there was so much I wanted to discover that can easliy be explored in movies. Anyway cheers to Xav for posting the article.

I can't believe making games is such a struggle.

It seems Lorne doesn't make it any easier for anyone, least of all himself.

That's how you get a high quality output, though.

Edge is a monthly magazine which always has a 'making of' feature of seemingly random old games

Gnarlybebb sounds like another name for Nolybab
Phonetically

Gnarlybebb is Nolybab - the article's author spelt it as best as he could.

Alcar...

Cool article

Anyone else notice that Nolybab is Babylon backwards?

First time I've noticed that

Xavier 08-29-2008 02:14 PM

Yes we did :p

It was a pretty interesting read, nice sum up of the Oddworld Inhabitants's History

Great read, I like what Lorne said at the end: "We're doing things out way... the hard way."

He doesn't pull his punches.

:

“What came first was a story we haven’t told yet. It was about a guy who lost his body to a credit card racket. I told it to Sherry in 1992, in the context of a larger epic, and it was basically Oddworld.”
Squeek?

Bullet Magnet 08-29-2008 07:27 PM

I wondered about that. We know Squeek was he first story Lorne told Sherry. But I can see the logical progression from that to the Abe that we know.

Wil 08-30-2008 01:29 AM

That was my thought. I am tempted to think that might be our first real description of Squeek. Then again, it also reminded me of the Citizen Siege protagonist:

‘An ex‐patriot [who] finds himself ensnared in a nightmarish credit racket that leaves him “repossessed”.’

Xavier 08-30-2008 01:46 AM

I don't know why but to me he was obviously talking about Citizen Siege... which we all know was conceived before the Oddworld stories.

Nate 08-30-2008 04:14 AM

Oh, I forgot that that was the plot of CS. It did seem like a strange direction to go for Oddworld...
