New To Oddworld...
He'yall, lets all design new oddworld creatures and stick them on this thread.
Any volunteers? |
ok, i'll try...
the cow... I know, I'm an orignal genuis aren't I? but seriouly, maybe we should have a template for these creatures, and I'm sure I've seen a thread like this before, but there's no point reviving one. name: stroo type: mammal, cross between roo and stag image: fairly large, has large mooselike antlers and is four legged, but it's rear legs resembel kangaroos, while it's front legs are used to propell it'self, it has wolf like fangs, and is a deep orange, pink or violet in colour, it has no eyes, but a large nose and several small ears, it has a mane similar to lions. bio: often hunted for game, wears prized moose-like antlers, horns said to have magical properties, fairly common but only one speacies exists due to over hunting. lives in moutianous areas. nature: small groups of males travel with large groups of males, and they are generally herbovores and peaceful, however lone males are carnivouris, stronger built and agreesive. ok, that's mine, i'll get a picture later. ;) |
I guess to design an Oddworld creature you'd have to take into account all of the characteristics of other Oddworld creatures. For example, most creatures with noses usually have them in between the eyes, with the mouth somewhere completely different. And also that most violent creatures usually have no eyes, yet an enhanced sense of smell.
You'd have to take these and more things into account to design a creature that appears to stay true to the evolution characteristics of most of Oddworld's inhabitants. |
When I was about 10ish I designed this thing called a Crakkit that was like a big beak that hung from trees. It was all beak in the way that the Fuzzles are all mouth (this was before MO was released, though). They were employed by Glukkons and put on little tricycles to act as security forces! *sigh*...I miss my youthful imagination...

Is it okay to post pics?
Mine is called Malisite. They live among Fleechs and slurgs and eat the flesh of Scrabs and Paramites and are sometimes caught and tamed by Industrilists and then used as a powerful security. The sickle like claws are used for defence, attack and to rip into the Malisite's prey. |
MS paint is a bit crap
Well, I was just thinking about an old idea of mine called the Octopod. It would have 8 tentacles (hence the "octo" part,) each with a claw on the end, 8 eyes (one at the base of each tentacle) and a mouth in the centre. It would cling to rocks along the coastline, mouth shut, eyes open and wait for a crab/fish/bathing mudokon to come by, and suck them in. How's that. :D
|
It looks like Starme in pokemon! lol
but seriously good work and ideas. ;) squeak is right but, I'm gonna try again making a creature, probs just drawing it, and employing the characteriscs of it's look that most other oddworldian creatures share. |
This is good, thanks guys, keep goin.
I'll put one on later. |

http://img184.imageshack.us/img184/7379/stroonu9.png OK, it lost a lot of it's properties through development but less is more. - The front legs I had no objection to but I'm rubbish at custom creating and I couldn't find any pictures to generate stag/dear/moose legs from. - I tried the fangs but it just ended up like it had a serious overbite. - Trust me it looks a lot better with eyes. - Face on view so I couldn't edit the nose length. - Lion mane didn't fit so I left it with a stag mane. ---------------------------------------------------------- One from me now. They made the meep so I've made the mow. That's right, it's a cow with one leg and one eye, other then that it's just like a cow and exists just like a cow. http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/4822/mowzk4.png |
omg, I love the Stroo! :D it's fine the way it is. :D
I love the Mow too, but it's an obvious ripp off my creation, the cow, jokes! lol. hmm, how about an otter, crossed with a duck.. oh wait, god bet me to it and created the playtapus, well, I'll try and think of some more. :) |
Glad you like it. Yes, Your small and unfortunately only slightly funny joke was half of the inspiration for the mow, the meep being the other half.
Check this out I did the octopod as well: http://img410.imageshack.us/img410/673/octopodor8.png |
OMG they like... like... WAFFLES!
|
Behold the Crakkit...
|
Now I see your design of them I can portray them in a better program. any good?

I started this thread back when I first joined, and it did pretty well.
These drawings were from back before I knew how to use Photoshop properly: This is the Kodo. I've never been quite happy with the name (due to it's association with Warcraft and others) but it's the only one that has ever felt right. I'm also thinking of reworking some of the details, particularly the arms, but this is more or less him. They're natives (though you get all sorts around) but are somewhat more savvy when it comes to their changing world. They are usually found working their ranches. They have a proud army-cum-militia known as the Kodo Lancers, Elum cavalry (with saddles!) wielding shock-tipped spears/lances, though the one in the picture carries your basic elum prod. The Vox is a design I dropped from further development when I realised how much I was leaning on the slig design, and because they were too cute!. They are aerial glidings who fly very badly and wield two pistols in each claw. As industrialists, they are often found making in-flight repairs to airships. Finally, the little Rangabie is my favourite original wild animal (though this drawing is way too skinny!). They stand as tall as slogs or paramites (not including the ears). They have unusual behaviours, napping and grazing by day in loose herds, during which time they make easy prey (if anything would want such a bony meal), but at night form smaller, tight packs capable of felling much larger creatures, catering for the primary carnivorous portion of their diet. They move by hopping, using their stiff tail as a rudder, their claws and teeth for dismembering prey. I should really reiterate some of these guys... develop their forms. |
Those are some nice Crakkits! The one in the tree looks a little bananary, though.
Nice! P.S. Don't disrespect Start > All Programs > Accessories > Paint! |
:
By the way, it's just called paint. And I'm not dissing, the program I use is just better. |

Actually, it's a cool idea to design oddworld creatures.
Why the hell haven't I looked at this thread before?! I kinda love that deer-bunny-kangaroo thing. It's my favorite design of your stuff here. Keep up the good work! |
Yeah, I agree, looking back at the stroo, it owns, good job again lol!
