Oddworld: PS3 or Xbox 360

Apparently OWI chose the Xbox format because it gave them a lot to work with and was the most advanced game platform at the time. Well, that's all fine and good, but with the release of the new versions of the three major game consoles, advancement seems to favor th PS3. Apparently the PS3 is supposed to be 2x more powerful than the XboX 360, and at least 15x more powerful than the PS2. It features a new kind of disk called a Blu-ray disk, which uses blue laser light instead of red, meaning that OWI can cram a lot more cool stuff into this disk than a normal DVD, plus al ot of other features. So, what are the odds that OWI will eventually deviate from the Xbox lineup sometime in the future?

REVOLUTION

Leto 12-03-2005 05:52 PM

Neither. Not even the Nintendo DVD Player. OWI should move into different mediums. [/false_hope]

I never even considered Revolution because nintendo always trails behind in um... overall goodness I guess you could put it.

I never considered playstaion because it trails behind in overall goodness.....ignorant shithead.

Cullen Heath 12-03-2005 08:30 PM

I dont think that Oddworld would ever be on the revolution. It doesnt seem right with all the mario and zelda games on the nintendo.

used:) 12-03-2005 08:39 PM

The distinct series' on the system dont matter, dipshit. It's the grapics quality and abiltiy to handle such data that matters. All of the LOTR games have been on Playstation, but they chose gamecube for Third Age, now didnt they?

Cullen Heath 12-03-2005 08:48 PM

1st off, can you please calm down.

Second, I meant that gamecube just doesnt seem right for Oddworld. The controller... everything. It just doesnt fit.

1st off, can you please be more open minded?

When I played MO on the xbox, the controller seemed horribly wrong for the game. I would hardly say that THAT controller fit that game.

Cullen Heath 12-03-2005 09:11 PM

You are half-way right.
I think the playstation controller fits best, second xbox and gamecube, just ..........ug.

Leto 12-03-2005 09:15 PM

You're both such fanboys. I hate you both. :D

Cullen Heath 12-03-2005 09:20 PM

That is very nice!
Your not exactly my favorite person in the world either.

You're an idiot. There is no "right" or "wrong," you should merely state your opinions. The gamecube, in my opinion, has the least confusing controller, such simple buttons, such an easy way to form hand-eye coordination.

If they do put it on the revolution then the graphics will probably be excellent at best. Nintendo has the best graphics in my opinion. I need release dates.

Stop the goddamn flaming please... jeez!

It's not even sure if Oddworld will continue to make games, so untill there is more clearity on wether they will or not, why debate which console Lorne will choose?

All three consoles have their ups and downs, if Lorne does want to continue making games, he will choose the console that best fits to game engine. He won't base anything on 'how the controller looks'. Trust me, thats one of the last things a game developer thinks about... honnestly O.o.

Wil 12-04-2005 01:28 AM

Shit, all this flaming! What is this, a discussion about different gaming consoles or something? Sheesh…

Something tells me Lorne wouldn't move towards Nintendo. Past interviews have revealed his rather specific views about it. He's made it clear he considers it a child's platform.

And then MO came out.

Shrink 12-04-2005 04:38 AM

Yes, he has made that clear. But he has also made his views of the stagnation and lack of innovation in the video games industry quite clear, and just looking at the Revo's controller shows that Nintendo know how to innovate and try something new.

Ooooh! Snap!

That was brutal. ;)

Personally, I would just like to see OWI make games again. I am willing to wait though, for the Oddworld Movie...if that's still the direction OWI is headed.

Not to mention nintendo being one of the oldest gaming companies out there. and who knows? Maybe the Revolution will not be so much into the kiddy gaming part if the industry.

Oddish 12-04-2005 07:31 AM

Lorne says it'll cost him more to make games on the next-gen, however I heard the revolution will cost less and easier to make games on. I have no clue, but the last time we heard about specific news Citizen Siege was said that it was in the plans, the exact media it would be produced on is unkown, but possiblie as a game.
I have a feeling that Lorne will hire programmers to make the games someday aswell as oddworld exploring different medias.

Wolfchaser 12-04-2005 08:51 AM

The reason I thought it was PS3 was thge fact that OWI switched to the Xbox was capabilities and advancement (look, I'm not good with words, get off my back). If what I've been reading and hearing is true, I suspect they will change to the PS3. I didn't mean right away, though. I thought they would wait a year or two when costs start to go down. Plus, people who own an Xbox 360 kept complaining about glitches with the system. Also, I owned a Gamecube and it sucked on so many levels. I didn't expect their next console to be much better.

used:) 12-04-2005 09:04 AM

if you're not good with words, then stop spewing crap out of your mouth. I still doubt enirely that the PS3 will be the next console for these games, hell, they may even go back to the PC.

Havoc 12-04-2005 10:20 AM

Consoles are limiting Oddworld in what they can do. I'm absolutely positively sure that Lorne and his crew can create a game that is so graphicly beautifull, so smooth and so perfect that it will leave the graphics of Call of Duty 2 lightyears behind them. Oddworld Inhabitants is and always will be the pioneer of 3D productions in the gaming industry and maybe even in the movie industry.
Problem is that you can only level a graphics engine so much. You can't exceed the consoles limits, or your costumers wallets. Cuz if OWI would switch back to PC, and they would create a game with the best possible graphics engine they can create, minimum specs for a game like that would require a 512MB video card, 4GB of RAM, 12GB of diskspace and one heck of a processor.

Well I dunno about you, but my wallet is probably empty for the rest of the month if I buy a 1GB RAM module. So no way anyone can afford a computer with maximum specs to run such an intense engine as Oddworld COULD produce.

Anyhoo, back to topic (was I not on topic? Whatever). No matter how powerfull a console is in one area, it can seriously restrict the engine in another. PS3 might have features the 360 doesn't have and vice versa, and from there it's a matter of which configuration best matches an Oddworld engine. But like I said, if you were to discard the bad parts of the consoles, and merge to good parts, you'd get a huge ass super console. But configurations like that these days only exist in PC form, for people with huge wallets.

Shrink 12-04-2005 11:00 AM

The only arguments that people have put forward in favour of the PS3 is that it's supposed to be powerful.

If we take a look at a lot of the talks, speeches and interviews Lorne has done over the past couple of years, it would appear he doesn't care for that. He cares for creativity, innovation, and fun games.

Furthermore, his history with the PS2 isn't exactly good; his bad mouthing of the console was widely publicised.

...yes?

Age doesn't mean anything. Playstation didn't have any predecessors in it's back catalog, and it was ultimately more popular than the Nintendo64 that had several consoles before it.

I don't see OWI using the PS3, you know, what with their ditching of Sony for Microsoft t begin with. It would be like dating an ex.

Oddish 12-04-2005 12:34 PM

They ditched the PS2 becuase it didn't carry out what they needed, OWI wanted to produce games on the most powerful console of it's generation, such as the Xbox.

Nate 12-04-2005 01:01 PM

We really don't know enough about the PS3 or Revolution to make full judgement calls.

They moved to the Xbox because it was more powerful, which would give them the ability to make games more lifelike and creative. All of the next-gen systems are going to be powerful. OWI may not restrict themselves to the individual most powerful system; they may go multi-platform.

They also moved to the Xbox because it was easier to code for than the PS2. Everything I've heard says that the 360 is going to be much more difficult than the Xbox and the PS3 is going to be much easier than the PS2.

In any case, it's a moot point as I don't think OWI are making any games at the moment or will in the near future.
