KONY 2012
Bring this mother fucker down. March 20th, I'm going to try and put up some posters in London to raise awareness to the cause. After watching this, might any of you try and make a difference? |
Oh jeez, not this again. Isn't it enough that everyone is spamming this shit across every Youtube video?
|
|
Oh no, not this goddamn bandwagon. STM you would fall for this.
|
Read the two links WoF links to. They're not side reading. They're vital reading (although, yes, the first is six years old).
And here's another. |
It's a good cause though don't you think?

I'll say this: If you're moved by IC's videos and feel compelled to share them, then I'm not questioning your motives or your intentions or your heart. I'm happy for you that you feel that way instead of not giving a shit. But you need to do your research before you launch into a campaign the context and implications of which you don't even begin to understand. |
If you set YouTube comments to automatically update you can actually watch the negative comments being flooded off the screen.
|
I heard about this at school today. Scary shit.

That's too simple. The issue is only good guy/bad guy because of your perspective. Not to say he's not an evil man, but hollering to give money to the army of a country where he's not even active to take him down, when peace talks are progressing isn't very intelligent.
|
Fundamentally it's a just cause and media attention is what might push a modicum of safety for Ugandan citizens. I do understand that Invisible Children is not a fantastic charity, equally as interested in monetary greed as it is helping the African communities, but I'm not doing it for them, I'm doing it for the Ugandans. And I have done some further reading, before I posted this topic in fact, I stand by my decision to try and help in whatever form instead of sitting on my arse and condemning people doing work to stop a militia from mutilating the faces of ten year olds.

|
I was merely backing up my statement with how I feel, if you find that passively aggressive than that's unfortunate. But it's not intentional.
|
:
Yeah sure... |

|
If you feel like that I do apologise, I wasn't meaning to come across as overtly rude or dickish. I do think it's nice that the West is raising awareness of just causes though, however blurred by the representative charities. If we foster empathy when it appears so strongly, as it has done these last few days, perhaps there's some hope for third world countries.
|
My totally apolitical friend who is absent of virtually any form of opinion on anything, sent me a link to this campaign on facebook. Not to say it's a bad cause, but fads crisp my bacon.
Also, what WoF said, peace talks are continuing, let's not petrol up that fire. |

KONY 2012 is basically one big line of white people patting each other's butts for something that hasn't gotten done yet. Does anyone have that image of the fuckturds from Invisible Children handing off weapons with their skinny little arms to a bunch of African Guerilla fighters? |
|
I'm not stinky D=
And I do understand his point, so perhaps you're not reading my posts properly, because, as I said, it's this public display of empathy which really moved me, not so much the organisation that started it. EDIT: Urgh, that picture is horrible, but that guy in the middle, I want to punch his fucking face. |
There's something about those 3 that I don't seem to like, can't exactly say what it is though, something seems wrong.
Also, the guy in the black t-shirt reminds me of Wil. |
I want to punch the middle one in the face. In fact, that's my new goal in life.
|
Is it empathy or cheap sympathy? Are people really empathizing with the issue, or are they just passing the video on to friends to absolve themselves of the guilt they feel after having watched it?
|
Scott Pilgrim meets Blood Diamond.

So no, probably not both. Not to the vast majority of people sharing that link and posting it everywhere. Maybe to you, if you have the commitment and the respect to stick with the situation, continue gathering information, find any way you can to support efforts, keep the emotional attachment you feel now and see it through. That's most certainly not the majority of people though. I don't pretend to empathize with the situation. |
Ah well, it's better to be truthful than to pretend you're following with the trend because of everyone else. Ack, that sounds terribly condescending.
|
Go get brutally raped by a hulking Ugandan soldier. Then come and tell us about empathy.

I expressed my disgruntledness with the KONY 2012 campaign on FaceBook, thinking of it as an uninformed emotionalist bandwagon. Some became annoyed with me, not being able to comprehend the difference between being concerned about the credibility of the campaign thinking children being shot at is a good thing. People are unbelievably easy to manipulate.
|
Call me racist, but I don't trust the guy because he's American.
|
You're racist.

Here's something I cooked up and that I've been pasting here and there. I got some dumb girl from British Columbia to call me a 'troll' for saying she was an ignorant piece of shit after stating that Invisible Children keeps less than 1% of their revenue. PROTIP: IT'S MORE LIKE 70% RE: ALL OF THIS KONY 2012 CONVERSATION Listen folks, it's totally commendable for you to look on something like Uganda or the LRA and want to help, to bring stability and lend your mighty gestalt social will to the scene and do what you can. But to just take what you're told at face value? How could you genuinely know you're helping unless you actually do some research? Yeah, the video we've all seen is very heart rending. We don't want more kids like Jacob, and thankfully there is something you can do. The easiest way to get rid of crazed, dangerous vermin like Joseph Kony (and to put the people who don't have any legitimate good intentions in their place) is to support instigating a stable government who will, in turn, take care of the small fry destabilizers. You want another Congo or Somalia? Keep blindly following manipulative Trash like invisible children. You want me to NOT post big walls of text on your wall? Just read this, if you please! visiblechildren.tumblr.com Now rep me, all of you! Muahahaha! |
So
If we want to help with this, are there any good, genuine charitable ventures we can support instead? |
I've just started one called the Koncealed Kids. If you wish to donate, just PM me your bank details.
|
Don't trust Ench. He's related to convicts.
PM me your bank account details. |
