Anyway, I was in this thread a few minutes ago, something about rape, I dunno, and I wanted to do a little something fancy with my font and such, so I tried loading the window that contains all of the vb code incantations and witchcraft, and my internet starts fucking up. Now, I'll give you that I had some other windows up, and as one rational person would do, I tried to close them. That ends up closing down all of my windows, so I have to try getting it started again, about three times. I finally get back to this thread, and I find it's closed. "WTF" automatically came to my mind. It was created ten fucking minutes ago, and it seems kind of strange that a forum that lets a thread about bestiality with Oddworld creatures remain open and then closes this thread, which was clearly comical in intent.

Oy vey. Do you guys ever have experiences like this? I swear to Jesus, some people just have a 40 ft pole rammed up their paramite-sodomizing ass. Ridiculous...

I actually got a fucking warning from the rpg mod for that thread. Is that even possible. Oh, yeah. Fuck you, Splat.

Nah, I think the mods are doing a very hard job and they deserve better than a tard like me. However, I plan on staying for a wittle bit so my sorrow and sympathy may be empty and useless feelings.

The rules exist for a reason OANST, and your spamming has increased a lot recently. Max agreed with me that you need to be reminded of certain things. You may have been around a lot longer than most, you may be one of our physically oldest members (though you've been acting like a 13-year-old recently) but you're not above and beyond the rules.

You break the rules a lot, you get infracted, regardless of who you are. It's not hard. And I'm not the only mod who wouldn't mind seeing you banned for a month if you don't remember it.

(And in answer to your question, mods can infract a member for rule-breaking in any forum, but can only moderate threads and posts in their own.)

And surely the fact that the thread was comical detracts from its worth, considering it had almost completely degenerated into spam by the third post.

EDIT: Misread Used:)'s post, I'd say the obvious reason that that thread was built up as a laugh rather than being an attempt to forcibly cause a flame war due to controversial opinions.

Just so everyone is clear, my little personal outburst in the deleted thread in question was not a spontaneous opinion. I’m much happier with MeechShrykull1029 and abe is now! than I am with some of the more raucous of you. The fact a thread about rape with no real content is closer and you protest tells me you think you can get away with virtually anything. Given the recent glut of tasteless threads, I don’t entirely blame you, but this was a huge step too far.

Then close it when you see it. I'm not so fucking stupid or 'insane' (Hurr) as to not realize that the whole thread was bad news. But, since I'm not a mod and pretty much don't have a care in the world, I responded as I would normally.

I'm not trying to start up another révolution, but this forum would be near nil without oanst. Admit it. He's one of the few, if not the only one, members that keep this place alive. I don't know how well things are going in the RPG section, but as Max said, most of the recent threads have been utterly stale and bland, and only about half the forum visits the RPG section. His blog war with MeechShrykull1029: brilliant!

I think OWF needs Schizoid Personality Disorder. Wikipedia states that one who has said disorder exhibits "alternations between eloquence and inarticulateness". OWF is full of very intelligent, moral and capable people, but personally I want more of the "Who would you want to rape?" threads than longass repworthy tl;dr posts about the ramification of some issue that nobody really cares about, just to seem even more intelligent.

I haven't seen the thread myself, but rape isn't a joke.
I don't care if you guys know this, I got sexually abused a couple of years back, I was 14, and in boarding, cut off from my family, I still haven't gotten over it, and the guy still goes to my school.
Point is, the lesser of rape still effects people realy badly, and is nothing to be joked about.
Now I know sometimes people can pull it off, and after all, black humour does exist, and I know this is a FORUM, the whole point is to express you opinions, but you don't know everyone here, you could offend someone.
I have learnt this the hard way, and have spent time apologizing to several members.

difference between men and women. rape is an extremely sensitive issue, and although most (if not, all) men acknoweledge it's hideum, it can be freely joked about amongst men. it's much more of a touchy subject around women however, since it is mostly them who are the victims of such an act most foul.

Leto, you are right. Never having known anyone to be raped, I am not even phased by joking about it, hence I did not immediately close OANST’s rape thread. I saw potential that clearly wasn’t really there. As Kastere identifies, I should have closed it right away to stop the spam before it started. However, Kastere, an opportunity to spam is not permission. You really need to exercise more restraint in your posting habits, and you’re not the only one.

Honestly.. I don't get why people online must be so strict with rules... Not that I think owf is too strict as it once was, but it's just a general thing on my mind. Personally, I don't mind Oanst's thread. Probably cos I don't care about things too much. I think that whoever got raped, needs to get help and get over it. Not meant in a negative way, but I feel quite bad for those who go around with heavy burdens. And for those that didn't experience anything like that... Why would we need to constantly worry about everyone else? I know it's a heavy subject, but if we start censoring ourself for others... What about all other controversial discussions and jokes? Soon everyone will go in taboo-mode again, and no one can discuss anything freely with anyone. I'm not saying that people absolutely NEED to be able to tell everyone else who they wanna rape(I doubt anyone would really want to anyway)... But I just think that they need to loosen up. At the end of the day I infracted OANST not for this specific thread but because I have seen him spamming a lot recently, earning himself more threads on the first page of Necrum than MeechShrykull, which is not anything to boast about.

This thread was pretty much the straw that broke the camel's back however. I don't know anyone who's experienced rape but I see it as a sensitive subject and anyone joking about it risks offending/upsetting other members, which is something that we as a forum should want to avoid.
I'm not against light-hearted or joking threads in general (it's why we have threads like 'Mod Survivor Island' and 'Bits and Pieces' and so on, but I really think the Rape thing goes to far.

If anyone wishes to start a serious thread in OTD discussing rape I'd have no objection.
And SkillyaSlig, male rape does happen, somewhat less commonly than female rape. Its much harder for men to talk about it, simply because its not viewed in the same way, as you pointed out in your own post.

What's offensive and what's not is merely objective though.... I really do believe Oanst's thread was meant to be taken really lighthearted. That people decided to take it in the wrong direction isn't really his fault.

And you should know by now... Anything coming from Oanst, shouldn't be taken seriously... (Although I must still remind myself of this sometimes).

It's unlucky that he chose such a sensitive area. Some people really did get offended I guess.

But then again... I'm not really surprised the thread got closed. It is a taboo-subject. But personally, I wish for the days where people can discuss anything freely with anyone. I mean, if we get to the state where discussions(lighthearted or not) about taboo-subjects are fine and you can joke about it... I bet some people wont feel as bad talking about their own, less fortunate experiences, which might lead to more incidents getting reported to the police.
All this is just a guess of mine though.

I think the main two problems with the rape thread was that it could have been construed to be a deliberately controversial thread, made for the sake of laughing at peoples reactions (At which point it would become a flame war and need to be closed) or a spam thread (And given your last two threads this would not have surprised me) which it became.

Also as a side note; where the fuck do personal attacks into Max's social life come into this? I did a quick comparison of MF's profile and postbit compared to that of banned members (Codek, Dino) and noticed that banned members have NO rep power and their posts cannot be repped, MF does not fit either category so I would assume he isn't banned.

To be honest, I really just wanted to make a new thread. In the 24 hours before I made that thread there were only three threads (please, I want to stop saying thread) in off topic that had new posts. I was bored and couldn't think of anything very interesting. So, I made a semi-funny thread. I didn't intend for anyone to get offended. I guess I sometimes forget that people aren't always as nonchalant about things as I am. I did make one other stupid thread like this before but the one before that was meant to be serious. I didn't intend that to become a spamfest. It just sort of happened. The new forum game is no different from Oddtour thread. I was merely letting people know that a forum member has been staying with me. The thread degenerated before I could say who, however.

I was not making a personal attack on Max. My point is, if he is willing to bring his personal feelings about someone that he pseudo-dated for a bit into the forums and try to get all the mods to ban him (I read your thread in Employee Lounge, Nate. Figure that one out.) then I have no interest in what he thinks is good eticate. I didn't bring his personal life into anything. I merely have a problem with the way he has carried himself as a mod and don't feel I should give a shit about his opinion. He brought his own personal shit here.

In the end, yes. About 60 percent of my posts are silly and/or trollish. But when the majority of the mods are giving you good rep for them you can't honestly say that I should be expecting infractions.
