Oddworld could come to PSP

With sony's latest announcement of a ps1 emulator and downloadable games for the PSP, who would like to see Oddworld 1 and 2 re-released? I think it would be pretty badass.

erwinraaben55 08-12-2006 11:10 AM

Yes, I am gonna download them then.

Xavier 08-12-2006 12:16 PM

if they do this I'm going to buy the PSP for sure :D

ziggy 08-12-2006 01:03 PM

yes that would be cool! Do PSP's cost about $150? It would really be worth buying them if the oddworld games were on it.

Wil 08-12-2006 05:02 PM

I'll stick with what I've got for now. PC + PS = plenty enough opportunity to play, and is a darn sight cheaper than forking out for an entire console for just two games.

Actually, that's pretty much what my Xbox turned out to do. *cough*

ziggy 08-12-2006 06:31 PM

I think the xbox has much more than 2 good games.

Kamille 08-12-2006 07:27 PM

It would be cool to play oddworld on the road

E'l Scrabino 08-12-2006 11:02 PM

Very cool indeed...

*digs into wallet, finds cash from birthday*
Woo.

Xavier 08-12-2006 11:32 PM

Heh, max, if I buy the PSP I'll also buy other games on it, like Katamary Damacy or LocoRoco :p
and maybe also GTA, Splintercell and prince of persie :D

Zerox 08-13-2006 03:20 AM

I prefer DS BY FAR. Plus there's numerous games on it I need in my life.
I thought the PSP wasn't very original or anything. And it's analog sticks suck (I even read that in a Playstation magazine). I've already had PLENTY of time to 100% complete both Oddworld games that I have, both rescuing and killing them off.

Fair enough. :p I wasn't so much bandying accusations as thinking out loud. Seeing as the only way to justify spending a large amount of money of a PSP is to spend even more money on several games, I think I'll steer clear of that pitfall. Frankly, I think I'm going to give up console gaming until any platform can promise me a decent selection of brilliant titles.

erwinraaben55 08-13-2006 07:57 AM

What about mgs in the psp :P, the original psx one, for download, or gran turismo, Damn, evey good psx game, when ever, where ever you want!. :)

DarkHoodness 08-13-2006 08:59 AM

Though the thought of having AO or AE playable at any location in the palm of your hand is pretty cool, personally I don't really see the point of buying a PSP just to re-play a game that you already have on a different gaming platform. Even if it's the original 2 Abe games. . . You've probably played them both many times anyway. :P If people get my meaning.

Wil 08-13-2006 03:00 PM

I hear you, Eddie. Still, if I were to acquire the means at no cost to myself, I wouldn't exactly be indifferent. ;)

Quoted for lies.

Xavier 08-14-2006 11:58 AM

hobo, please keep this kind of posts for other forums.
You know the xbox has more then 2 good games, so what are you trying to do?

munchman92 08-15-2006 03:43 AM

i doubt oddworld would even want to let sony redo the games on the psp as they fell out didnt they?

Xavier 08-15-2006 03:50 AM

it's not re-do at all

it's simply that the PSP will have a PS emulator, letting you play most of the PS games, and probably including AO and AE.

munchman92 08-15-2006 03:52 AM

i didnt reluise i thought they had to redo the games to make it usalbe for the psp . (as you can see i don't own a psp) . it all makes sense now

forte81 08-15-2006 02:07 PM

The only thing cooler then Odd 1 and 2 would be a port of munch and stranger to the psp...sadly I doubt that would happen, but they did do munch for the gameboy advanced so who knows.

Nate 08-15-2006 05:38 PM

The GBA games weren't ports. They were poorly made spin-offs.

forte81 08-15-2006 05:49 PM

Umm...the oddworld adventure games for the gameboy and gameboy color respectively were in fact dumbed down versions of the first two odd games right down to the story and so was "munch's oddyssee" for the gba...so there was no spinning off as you put it. The graphics were truly terrible but the games were quite fun.

Wil 08-15-2006 05:53 PM

Oddworld Adventures and Oddworld Adventures 2 did indeed use the same plot, characters and locations, but it was not a port. It was not translated from the original code, it was created afresh.

Munch's Oddysee for the GBA is actually a spin-off that continues the story from where MO for the Xbox left off. Sort of.

forte81 08-15-2006 05:54 PM

Why is there always that one dude on every mesage board who tells you your wrong before doing any homework?...I mean really, does anonymity just make people more argumentative or what?

But I digress. Anyone else want to see stranger or munch on the psp?
The graphics might not be as nice but I am sure the games would still rock.

forte81 08-15-2006 05:57 PM

After playing both munches I found that it was not really a spin off, more like a simplification of the original story with minor changes made to it. I really wish the GBA game had a save instead of that dumb password system though.

forte81 08-15-2006 06:06 PM

straight from the horses bad breath;

THQ's publishing agreement with Microsoft that gives THQ the opportunity to produce Game Boy Advance editions of key Microsoft products. But whatever charm the impressive-but-dull Xbox adventure had has been nearly completely lost in the translation to handheld; the portable version of Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee fails to impress like the console version did, but more importantly it just isn't much fun to play.

Features
Two playable character
More than ten different missions
Password save

Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee is entirely based upon the situations that unfold in the Xbox game, which is, essentially a continuation of Oddworld: Abe's Exodus, a sequel to Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee.

This is from IGN's review

Dude, you're the one that needs to do some homework.

And please don't double post.

Wil 08-15-2006 06:43 PM

Seconded. forte81, you have triple posted when it was perfectly possible to use the edit button and add to your last post. Please use this button in the future to avoid pointless double posting.

It was definitely simplified. It was essentially “Go to this place and shut it down,” which is the most basic plot of any Oddworld game. The unique story elements that defined the original Munch's Oddysee, such as Abe trying to meet Munch, the rescue of the last can of Gabiar and getting Lulu to go through a series of rapid promotions were not at all present in the GBA incarnation. However, the GBA version of MO did feature the first known instances of Abe piloting a mobile piece of Mudokon technology, and the first time a financial institution on Oddworld has been shut down.

Cullen Heath-"Dude, you're the one that needs to do some homework."

My homework on what? I have said nothing incorrect, and if I did, correct away.
Also I just started posting here just days ago and was unaware I could homogonise my posts. Consider it noted.

Nate 08-15-2006 08:45 PM

Cullen was pointing out that, since Max is the resident Oddworld Encyclopædia-ist, he doesn't need to do any homework and you should take his corrections in gentle good-humour.

Forte: Although your posts had some really good points, it's better to just add extra stuff you want to say by editing it into your posts rather than make one post right after the other. Otherwise you get the ending result as shown above.

Now back to the discussion. I dunno. I can't deny that it would be fun to play AO, AE, and even SW on a handheld, especially one with the graphics quality of the PSP. But Oddworld just doesn't seem like something to be on the PSP. Who knows, Sony may decide to honor some early games on their system by adapting them to the PSP. Oh wait, this is SONY! Nevermind then...

munchman92 08-16-2006 03:54 AM

i think sony should release a favourites/classics range a bit like what gamecube and xbox did but do the favourite games of ps1 onto psp and sell them as a knock down price so they would still get money and oddworld would be on the psp

forte81 08-16-2006 06:15 AM

I think The ps1 games being released for download on the psp will only sell for about 5 or 10 USD so it is a pretty good deal to get the first 2 Odd games on the go for like 10 bucks.

nate_dog_woof -"Cullen was pointing out that, since Max is the resident Oddworld Encyclopædia-ist, he doesn't need to do any homework and you should take his corrections in gentle good-humour."

I was referring to you actually because not only did I not call them ports in my post but you proceded to say they were spinn-offs wich is incorrect and could lead unknowledgable types to think you were correct, thus perpetuating an untruth.
In my post I said I wanted a port of the new games and that they "did" a version of Munch, did doesnt translate into port, so really you corrected nobody..but its cool, just a case of misreading.

As well I will most definately refrain from double posting in the future now that I got this edit button figured.

stranger06 08-23-2006 04:03 PM

yer it would be great to have psp versions of oddworld when i brought the psp i was really annoyed at the lack of originality and if they brought out thoise two on psp they could bring out a sezuel to munchs oddysesy or something

rookybeats 08-25-2006 02:02 AM

i'd love if oddworld came to psp, abes oddysee here i come!!

Monsaic 09-21-2006 12:35 PM

While reading my OPSM2 Magazine, i noticed an article explaining old PS1 games could be coming to psp. Ofcourse, Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee was show as an image on a UMD disc. It also said someting about the games being downloadable from the psp website. This could be good.

Arxryl 01-18-2007 01:57 PM

Very cool! I'd go out and buy one just to have portable AO! (or borrow my relative's for a few months...:))
