If the Native says it's coming soon and that they are doing stuff, I can wait but I agree we've been waiting since before I even got the internet. We'll be ok guys, pull through and clear up OANST's sick!

My point still stands that the delay isn't even comparable to Oddworld right now.

Your point does not still stand. The delay for the website is miniscule compared to the delay of Dead Rising 2.

I wasn't talking about the horrible 5 year wait all you poor Oddworld fans have had to endure.

Or even the horrendous 9 year wait for those of us who never owned an Xbox or played MO or SW.

It's only been 2 days and AbeMudokon says the website will be out very very soon. Everyone just needs to calm down and smoke a jay.

Daxter King 08-02-2010 09:09 AM

It doesn't matter that you're not talking about, its still relevant to the situation currently.

STM 08-02-2010 09:11 AM

Shut up and stay on topic please.

Is gilray really working @ Jaw btw? If so he knows AbeMudokon yes?

It does matter that I wasn't talking about it because my point was the reason we started this argument...............stop being silly.

And yes, I believe Gilray does work at JAW.

I see I misunderstood your first statement, my mistake for taking this far.

jmchandler 08-02-2010 09:22 AM

Thanks Gilrod. I appreciate the update. I am as excited as everyone else, and I'm waiting on pins and needles. But, as long as we have been waiting, a little longer shouldn't matter much. I am confident that you and your team are very conscious of the fact that all of us fans are very restless and impatient, and that ya'll are working as fast as possible.

Wil 08-02-2010 09:39 AM

Yes, Stewart Gilray is managing director of JAW. We'd have given him a title if only we could think what.

STM 08-02-2010 10:12 AM

Life Giver perhaps?

Wil 08-02-2010 10:17 AM

Compared to "Oddworld Inhabitant", it's a little cryptic.

STM 08-02-2010 10:25 AM

Yeh but we'll all get it won't we? Won't we?

Brewmaster (just add water)

GlukkonGluk 08-02-2010 12:45 PM

Still no news? I see...well, obviously one of us is going to have to write a strongly- worded letter to someone important, eh? :P

squeak117 08-02-2010 02:22 PM

My favourite part is when he said it'll be here soon.

Wil 08-02-2010 02:57 PM

My favourite part is when everybody got angry because they believed the word soon isn't a meaningless word.

Hazz-JB 08-02-2010 03:05 PM

My favourite part hasn't happened yet, but I'm told its coming soon!

Viper45 08-02-2010 03:18 PM

Hmm. So I see we've gone from "next week" to "indefinite" once again.

Indefinite... the story of an Oddworld fan's life.

I think that since they expected to be ready by the end of July, it's well within their capacity to release the site in the next week or two. As Gilrod said, they had other "considerations" when it came to announcing new projects; ie. they didn't get behind schedule, they chose not to announce anything yet, the same probably goes for the website.

It may be naive but I'm still really hopeful for something in the next week or so.

Viper45 08-02-2010 03:57 PM

Sure, but the fact that he doesn't know when they'll make the announcements doesn't inspire confidence. Usually when they don't know, it means it's going to be a while. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm not holding my breath for an announcement in the coming weeks.

Havoc 08-02-2010 09:02 PM

Edit: Nevermind, missed a bunch of posts.

Actually the new Oddworld site has been 'coming soon' for the last 4 or 5 years. And regardless of what they are working on, off-lining your company's entire website for such a period of time is just utterly stupid. Not only from a fan's perspective but also certainly from a business perspective.

OWI has always had some flair of unneeded secrecy around itself. Almost as if they are afraid that the second they tell the world something someone else is going to grab their idea and run off with it. And while there may be a level of truth in the fact that the competition is always looking over your shoulder, I think OWI and Lorne in particular are waaaaaaay to paranoia when it comes to releasing information. That just doesn't hurt their fan base, it also hurts their business, because lets face it, if we (the fans) don't know it, then the business world doesn't know it. And the only thing we know for sure right now is that Lorne is always working on the next revolutionizing idea that will turn the gaming industry upside down. Well, my brother in law is always preaching the same thing. Just last year he asked me if I wanted to invest in a new type of fuel he invented that would turn the entire world upside down. Guess what? He's still a cab driver.

I'm not out to burn OWI or Lorne here, and I'm sure there have been some business deals and plenty of meetings where things been discussed we can only drool about right now, but my message is that too much secrecy can kill you as a company. Especially if you plan to keep this up until the release of Citizen Siege which is years into the future.

Hm, sometimes I wonder how Lorne's meeting with potential investors go.

Investor: 'So, what exactly should we be investing in?'

Lorne: 'Well I can't really tell you because it's a secret, but I guarantee you it will turn the gaming industry upside down!'

Investor: 'Great! Here, have our money!'

:p

Nate 08-02-2010 09:30 PM

Don't be so asinine, Havoc. Back when OWI had products to promote, they promoted the hell out of them. Their website was excellent and there were regularly interviews with Lorne and articles about the company.

For the past five years they've gone radio silent and with good reason; they haven't had anything to tell us about. Sure, they now do have something to promote but PR is a complicated beast and it's their choice to decide when is the best time to let us know about it.

Havoc 08-02-2010 09:42 PM

There are companies out there that keep the world up to date on what exactly they're doing long before PR comes into play, is all I'm saying. In fact, you could consider the production process part of the PR, that's what they did with MO. Just a shame that insanely backfired on them, so maybe they're hesitant to do it that way again.

Xavier 08-02-2010 10:15 PM

Yep, that's probably what happened Havoc. Anyway, still have new content on the site during those 5 years means OWI would had to hire someone to make all this out of thin air. I'm not sure I'd like the output of that.

And while I understand many of you are upset please try not to be rude to each other.

Either "JAW staff-member" or "Stewart Gilray".

squeak117 08-03-2010 03:21 AM

Can we just call him 'Gilrod' from now on?

Nate 08-03-2010 04:03 AM

I think Max was referring to some sort of equivalent to 'Oddworld Inhabitant', which is the byline we give to known OWI staff members.

Only once the production hits a certain point. It's all to do with the PR balance; you really don't want to peak too early.
