just watched the last episode of The Last Voices Of World War 1. tell you what, i hadn't even seen all the episodes previous, but it fucking got me right here, especially listening to the veterans talking about their experiences themselves.

then the credits rolled, and it showed every single one of those chaps pictures, naming the year they died. they all died. hit me like a fucking brick, and i'm not ashamed to admit i actually got teared up. i should have seen it coming.

incredible stuff.

War films in which the veterans appear are almost invariably tear - jerkers.

I remember watching Comic Relief on Red Nose Day in 2005, when they sent someone (it might have been Dermot O'Leary) to Africa to present his video on some disease over there (It was a long time ago, forgive me.) We saw the treatment facility showing everyone there who couldn't be cured because they couldn't afford the 20 pence medicine... And the nurses seemed so full of life. All of them did. Then at the end of the video it showed all the nurses there had now died.

Yeah, it rather shocked the 12 year old me.

THIS IS THE ANIMATED SHORT IT'S BASED ON

Sekto Springs 11-05-2009 03:13 PM

Thanks for that, DI. Fuckin loved it.

Disgruntled Intern 11-05-2009 03:32 PM

It's tempting to post a few of my treasured animated shorts in the Bits and Pieces thread, but I'm a selfish fuck.

ha.

I don't want to see Trick 'R Treat because I was such a fan of the animated short it's based on when I was younger. I don't care if the same guy made the movie, it sounds like balls. Cocks and balls.

Wikipedia implies that it's not so much based on Seasons Greetings as inspired by, with totally new Halloween-themed stories.

Disgruntled Intern 11-05-2009 08:24 PM

Nate, what the fuck? Am I experiencing your smarmy attempt at trolling, or am I just sensitive because my pregnant wife is hormonal and mean? You tell me.

Nate 11-05-2009 09:06 PM

I'm guessing the latter. I was just trying to be helpful and reassure you that it's probably not going to be as shit as you imagine.

Strike Witch 11-05-2009 11:26 PM

Rented Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

Yes, this plot is shit-tastic.
Yes, some of the acting is REALLY bad.
But the big giant robots are stompy and cool to look at, so who gives a fuck?

Also Sub/Dom Starscream and Megatron rowr.

slig# 5719 11-06-2009 02:27 AM

Just watched the animated short the kid looks so innocent

loved the ending.

Fuzzle Guy 11-06-2009 04:58 AM

I just saw a wonderful advert for Tesco's Christmas deals. Had Tesco set in the Victorian ages.

Then it completely ruined itself by having the Victorian man waking up in modern day to reveal his experience of a Victorian Christmas with Tesco's products was all a dream.

Josh 11-07-2009 03:57 AM

Simon's Cat. I have the same problems.

Jetfire was the only redeeming factor in that pissheap. Also Demolishor and Long Haul, because they have the best fucking design ever.

Anyway, I saw Land of the Lost. It was unbelievably fun and I had to watch the tail sliding part like 4 times.

OANST 11-07-2009 06:15 AM

I've been watching reruns of Lost in Space. You gotta love Dr. Smith.

slig# 5719 11-07-2009 02:34 PM

I can't believe I forgot about an animated short series me and my sister used to watch online: Happy Tree Friends (don't be fooled by the name).

Sekto Springs 11-07-2009 02:55 PM

Gee, only everyone and their mother knows what Happy Tree Friends is. Also, it's not funny.

Mac Sirloin 11-07-2009 05:53 PM

It was funny. It had an amusing concept but pooped itself out pretty quickly by just being the same thing over and over.

Strike Witch 11-07-2009 05:56 PM

Around the World in 80 Days with Jackie Chan.

I feel embarrassed for liking it so much.

used:) 11-07-2009 06:14 PM

GIVE ME THE JADE BUDDHA. That was a recurring line between me and my brothers after we saw it.

Umm.

...

Yeah, I've seen nothing lately.

Josh 11-08-2009 03:32 AM

Coraline. I love the bat-dogs.

abe is now! 11-08-2009 03:45 AM

Yesterday night I watched an old movie, The 13th Warrior and I liked it... I found the Eaters of the Dead wonderful

Leto 11-09-2009 12:02 AM

MarsMudoken 11-09-2009 12:13 AM

I've seen Marley and Me (cried), a bit of Mars Attacks (funny), and Up (screw you).
Where the wild things are, my mom would read to me as a kid. Tropic thunder sounds good but I don't think I'll ever watch it.

OANST 11-09-2009 06:17 AM

Don't you dare talk bad about Up. It was no Wall-E, true. But it was still fantastic.

MA 11-09-2009 06:49 AM

still wanna see Up.

give it a few years.

OANST 11-09-2009 07:08 AM

I saw Ed, Edd, and Eddy's Big Picture Show, last night. Loved it. Fantastic ending to the show.

I would go and see it if only, if only, you could opt to see it not in 3D. I know that Up uses the 3D system with more subtlety than most, but I still tend to find 3D distracting.

You mean they've still been making episodes? Fuck, I hate it when I take for granted the blatant, long-lasting existance of something great.

OANST 11-09-2009 11:26 AM

This is the last of the show. It's a two hour made for t.v. movie, and it's fantastic. Kastere posted part of it in the stupid shit thread.

shit. i didn't even know it was 3D. that would have come as a surprise when being handed glasses.

would prefer to see it in non-3D, as i too find it distracts me from the actual film.

MarsMudoken 11-09-2009 11:51 AM

I just didn't like the ending to Up. I'm sorry but is a man not entitled to the sweat of his brow?

"Mr. Bubbles! Look!"

OH SNAP!
Later gotta run!

Up until now I hardly had a shit to give about EE&E, but it's just absolutely crazy. I love it.

I was surprised that they aired this part on Cartoon Network.

Sekto Springs 11-09-2009 08:58 PM

Yeah, a year later they finally aired it on US Cartoon Network. This coming weekend, they're also bringing back classic Looney Tunes.

Maybe things are finally lookin' up.

Mac Sirloin 11-10-2009 04:05 AM

I've heard this is just a gold filling in the great turd of what CN has become.

On the other hand, I'm asking for like 3 seasons of E,E&E for Christmas.

MarsMudoken 11-10-2009 04:22 AM

Sorry about the bioshock joke. I was just overloaded with oddworld. Wanted something new. Sigh...

That unspeakable device reminded me of something. My brother know all about adult stuff, and whenever I do something he gives me this look and says "That's wrong". When he's was whacking this brush against the sink, I said "Stop banging the brush" and then he says "that's wrong'. I never have any idea what I said meant to him, but now I know how Eddy feels.

Wings of Fire 11-10-2009 07:31 AM

EDD WITHOUT THE Y THEY CALL HIM DOUBLE DEE FOR A REASON WHAT IS THIS I DONT EVEN
