If they got MO or SW recently there really is no reason. Since I really doubt any method of purchasing them now a days would give money to OWI, of course buy AO and AE on Steam.

I was at the Gold Coast just last week and went into a second hand store. Apparently someone had conned the old guy who owned the place (he obviously knew nothing of games) into buying a bunch of pirated xbox games. I knew they where pirated because instead of saying "xbox" in the header it said "xgame". Anyway one of these games was Stranger's Wrath.

And see how quickly that fails to work.

The Xbox doesn't just look at the files on the disc; the discs are actually burnt in a specific pattern, leaving occassional gaps that are ignored by the DVD drive. To the best of my knowledge, no-one has managed to get a DVD burner to replicate this.

Now, if the Xbox is modchipped, on the other hand...

It most likely won't have improved graphics, but it may look better on the PC than on the Xbox, though, it depends.

Does AO/AE look better on the PC? like a higher quality of image compression maybe?

I've only got the PSX versions, the discs all work fine and the last few playthroughs have been on PC anyway using epsxe, but im wondering if I should get the PC verisons when the Oddbox comes out

Yes, but only because there are no TV scanlines on PC version (you can turn them on for speed, though.... epsxe can turn them off/on anyway...) and so the game looks a little bit smoother... that's it
I think there is no need for buying PC AO/AE unless Paul rewrites game engine or whatever interesting else happens :) In ePSXe you can also add some shaders (Pete's OGL2 plugin) and use some graphic filters for enhancing the graphics

Why do you hope it comes out in Winter 2010, theres no reason why it could be released waay earlier?

I doubt anything will go wrong. AO and AE are already on Steam and its not like there going to completely remake the Xbox ones.

when SW first came out i ripped it to my hd because it ran realllly badly off the dvd (would freeze/skip all the cutscene a lot). i'm glad with the 360 they made this a legitimate option.


for the fucking record just before you all start crying, i ripped my copy of stranger's wrath, that i bought the very first day it became available. to this day i am pissed i don't have the bonus dvd that everyone else seemed to get.

SW on PC better have better graphics. It's a good game but it looks pretty shit in terms of graphics

I've noticed a similar thing with AO and AE. I found that the music quality was much higher on the PSone than the PC. Does anyone know why this is the case?

Probably because of different formats/encoding or whatever

I haven't played it on the PS, but the PC music quality seems fine to me. And the Stranger's Wrath graphics look pretty good too, especially as it came out in 2004.

they will be the same quality (a pretty poor wav format catered for ps1 times), but the difference being now you will be hearing it through (presumably) good headphones as opposed to when you played it on the playstation and the sound came out of a shitty television speaker/sound system.

with headphones you'll be able to hear crisply the bad digital artefacts in the audio, where before said artefacts would be covered with the warmth of the tv speaker

I don't use headphones...

PC and PSX versions of Abe are pretty similar, regarding music. As for picture quality, I didn't notice scanlines on the PSX versions.

-ddcheat on the PC versions makes it more worthwile I think, although its a novelty really. I only cheat for fun :p

I had those, but then they disappeared. I have no idea why. It's probably a bug. I got my PC copy new (I think) around 2001.

one of the things ive been exploiting since i found it is the save states in epsxe, which ive been using as a quicksave for AO, very handy, dont suppose theres any hacks for pc like it?

They appear if you choose Fast/Fastest Mode AO/AE Shortcut (Disc Version) or by adding -scanlines parameter on Steam version...

Not for me it isn't. I'm out of the US until mid-January. If it comes out around Christmas/New Years, I hope it lasts till the end of January. And if it's only going to be for like a week, I hope it comes out in mid January.

I hope not. And I don't see any reason for it to be a limited offer because I think the Oddbox will sell like hotcakes. It might be a limited offer on discounted price, but if it's on steam there's unlimited copies

I doubt it will be a limited offer; many games on Steam are offered as part of package deals all the time.
