The voices in the Opple Farm are the originals.
Are you sure? Because the voice that says "He's after the cornbread!" is completely different in tone and inflection from any other line she says. You can tell the first line was just a guy trying to sound feminine, but the other lines sound re-recorded by a woman. I could be wrong, it's been such a long time, and that's such a minor detail. I'm not the only one who thinks that voice is new though. Dipstikk was the one to first point it out to me.

You know what? So did I. But then we played the original and couldn't perceive an actual difference.

Sekto Springs 12-31-2011 04:51 PM

Huh. So wait, a voice actress was hired to replace the voices of only two characters?
Seems like a wasted resource. :p

Wil 12-31-2011 05:00 PM

It's not like you can pay for two characters' lines and they throw in a third for free.

Sekto Springs 12-31-2011 08:18 PM

No, but I feel like if JAW shilled out for her to do the voices of background Clakkerz as well, we would have gotten our money's worth because she would have been far more prevalent. A few lines of generic Clakker banter in addition to the two characters seems more congruous.

Oh well. Should'a, could'a, would'a...

Dipstikk 01-01-2012 12:05 PM

Hey, is there any way to change the difficulty setting mid-game? I'd really, REALLY rather not have to do everything all over again, but these bounties are getting to be a pain, and I want to take them in alive.

OANST 01-01-2012 01:05 PM

I've noticed a change in difficulty even for normal for some parts of the game. There's a section in Last Legs right after talking to the Grubb queen (dear god, that voice) where you get mobbed by like eight of the Wolvarks who carry the shields. There is no way to hide so they can't see you, and unless you resign yourself to killing all of them with homing Boom Bats you just plain won't survive. I'm not complaining. I was just surprised because that section was not that difficult in the original.

Sekto Springs 01-01-2012 01:30 PM

I too noticed a difference in difficulty. Even the most basic enemies seem to have much better aim, and dodge your shots more often. When I played the original, I would have to shake off only three or four times per mission. Now I find I'm shaking off every few minutes.

Not really complaining, I like a challenge. Just pointing it out.

Dipstikk 01-01-2012 01:45 PM

So, I take it there's not.

I rarely used the boombats. I mainly tried to capture all enemies alive using the zappfly, sometimes needing to resort to using the other ammo types to bat back the enemies when i got surrounded by too many to cope wth. I thought the difficulty for 'normal' was spot on. If anything, I'd complain it was too easy. But that's what the 'difficult' mode is for ^^

I'm afraid not

All I know is that we didn't re-record her voice. Either those voices are in the original and no one ever noticed, (which would make sense because there was going to be a mission involving her), or when we remastered the audio, we ended up implementing some recorded lines that were never used.

Nothing in the AI code has been changed. It's possible that the way the PS3 CPU handles certain variables at a base level could alter the way AI behaves slightly, but if anything we've tried to make it easier in those later stages.

Is that the section where you are in a narrow corridor, and the Wolvarks are jumping over the high wall on one side? Because that area was a bitch in the original.

So, what you're saying is...

...THE GAME IS ALIVE?!

Also, whose bright idea was it to leave out the sniper ammo? Those little mosquito-looking things that you could fire from your sniper scope, they aren't in the game!

Yes. That's the part.

I dunno. Maybe I'm imagining it.

They aren't???
I loved those things! I used them so frequently in the last few levels. They came in such great handy.

Is there any news on when the HD patch for the PC version is coming?

The sniper darts are in the game. Why do you think they aren't?

Dipstikk 01-02-2012 12:57 AM

I was wrong. I just got them from the black market.

Sekto Springs 01-02-2012 08:46 AM

Ok good.

Dipstikk 01-02-2012 02:39 PM

Also, methinks you and OANST doth protest too much about the Freyda's voice. It's not great, but it's deffo better than I was expecting.

I would have liked to hear, like, a female version of Braveheart when she tries to give heroic speeches, and then goes back to speaking like that when she speaks normally.

CHRIS IT SOUNDS LIKE A PONY. YOU LIKE PONIES, RIGHT?

OANST 01-02-2012 04:14 PM

It was less annoying when I ran into her in Last Legs.

Sekto Springs 01-02-2012 05:35 PM

you and OANST
By "you" do you mean me? Because I haven't even gotten that far in the game, and I have no idea what she sounds like. All I know is everyone else here seemed to dislike it.

PONIES, CHRUS.

Sekto Springs 01-03-2012 08:55 AM

:c

mrsmr2 01-06-2012 03:21 PM

Finished it on hard. Failed to find all the barrels and collect 20k (nearly made it but found capturing the outlaws too difficult).

Surprisingly, I only died once to the twin Gloktigis - kept hitting a pillar right at the starting position when trying to charge to safety and got combo'd.

That's the one part I found easier than the original version. JAW, have you made that part easier? Is it a larger room?

Fantastic game (still).

Wil 01-06-2012 04:05 PM

The difference in the latter stages of the game is that each time you get an armour upgrade, you actually get an armour upgrade.

mrsmr2 01-07-2012 02:08 AM

I just fought the twins in the original version and I think the biggest difference is that the new version has more responsive controls. I could sprint to one end, turn, switch to first person and attack faster than in the original. Therefore, I had a bit more time to attack or evade.

The xbox version seemed to catch me in the sticky goo more often than the new version, even when sprinting and jumping - but that might just down to luck/bad luck in the 2 comparison runs.

Now, if you can return the proper Grubb Queen voice, and stop the music/voices cutting out abruptly, I'll be able to pension off the xbox. Apart from those factors, the HD version is better than the original (which is massive praise from me).
