Your points all stand except for the last one, Shane being alive was actually holding the show back a bit.

There is no way in hell. He is the only character on the show that acts in a believable manner, and he is clearly the best actor on the show. I've known people exactly like him, and that guy is fucking spot on from the mannerisms to the way he delivers the lines. Without Shane the show isn't worth watching at all.

Dynamithix 04-27-2012 07:18 AM

The guy behind Shane acts really well but I don't like the character one bit. I think Rick's actor does a fine job too. Considering he's actually British, the southern accent is pretty good. And uhh, yeah, I have two episodes left to watch.

OANST 04-27-2012 07:55 AM

You aren't supposed to like Shane. That's the point. The fact that you don't like Shane means that he is doing his job.

Nepsotic 04-27-2012 10:36 AM

I loved the firat season, but just not enough to download the second. On an unrelated note, I watched the Ricky Gervais pilot Derek last week, though not thoroughly entertaining all the way through, it was an amazing piece of film. Beautiful, sad, funny, ect. Karl was amazing in it, his acting is brilliant, as he doesn't really act. He is just himself, Very funny. I hope it's commissioned for a series.

Dynamithix 04-27-2012 10:39 AM

Well, I finished the second season of Walking Dead. I thought the finale was pretty good but the ending was really strange (who was the sword wielding girl?). I thought the latter episodes in season two, like from the fifth episode to the twelfth, were really boring and just didn't go anywhere. I thought the early episodes and the finale were pretty good. Overall I still enjoyed it.

OANST 04-27-2012 10:49 AM

I actually thought the second season was a huge improvement on the first. Mainly because the first contained much of the worst written television that I have seen in about a decade. I didn't think that the second season was particularly good (especially Dale all of a sudden becoming a psychic), but at least it wasn't as bad as the first.

Shane dying actually allows for some character development in Rick. Rick is no longer the clear cut good guy, he will have to make tougher decisions and will end up being a little like Shane more than likely. Before this they had Shane=Bad, Rick=Good.

Edit:Why is T-Dawg even alive? He had like 2 lines in all of season 2.

OANST 04-27-2012 11:11 AM

I see that, but Rick will never be as interesting as Shane, and Shane was the only reason I thought the show was bearable enough to sit through. Again, you're right. Shane was Rick's counter balance, and without him Rick will have to start being a bit more of a dick. But I'm not sure that will be interesting enough of a pay off to no longer having Shane.

Daxter King 04-27-2012 11:19 AM

I'm not arguing it's a good show, don't get me wrong it's bad. I'm not entirely sure where they are going with the next season, but it was likely going to be bad with or without Shane.

The worst character on the show is by far the kid. Carl. Fuck Carl. Everytime he opens his mouth I wish Merle would suddenly appear and kill Carl as revenge. Yeah. That'd be good.

OANST 04-27-2012 11:30 AM

Yeah, Carl is a ball of suck. It was always a toss up between him, and Dale, though. Especially after Dale miraculously obtained psychic powers. My god, did I hate him after that.

Daxter King 04-27-2012 11:33 AM

To be fair, sometimes viewers need people with psychic powers to understand things. I've heard people say they actually thought Shane didn't kill Otus and they didn't know why he shaved his head.

The fact that Daryl supposedly knew that Shane killed Otus(with actual reasons, not psychic powers) and didn't say anything is kind of shitty.

OANST 04-27-2012 11:37 AM

You would think the part where they showed Shane killing Otis would have clued the viewers in that Shane killed Otis.

Daryl not mentioning it doesn't really bother me. It's a new kind of world, and he is dealing with his own shit. Besides Shane, Daryl was the only character I could stand.

Dynamithix 04-27-2012 11:39 AM

In my opinion Dale, Daryl and Andrea are the best characters in the series so far. I would've liked it if Morgan and Duane from the pilot episode would have gone with Rick to the camp.

Wings of Fire 04-27-2012 11:42 AM

So is this show worse than True Blood or what?

OANST 04-27-2012 11:43 AM

I hate Andrea, and I hate that all it took to make her an amazing sharp shooter was to have Shane make her shoot zombies under pressure.

Edit: For WoF: No. Fuck no. No fucking way in hell. Fucking goddamn hell no. True Blood is absolute trash. As much as Walking Dead irritates me, it is nowhere near the level of fuck off that True Blood is.

Daxter King 04-27-2012 11:44 AM

Maybe he gave her some shooting skills when he banged her.

I just noticed your edit here. Absolutely. Every time that poor bastard got a line I imagined him sitting with the script in his hand, weeping, and thanking god that they let him say "We should go find him", or something equally as stupid.

scrabface 04-27-2012 12:03 PM

anyone reading the comics? they're really good imo

OANST 04-27-2012 12:06 PM

I read a couple. They were all like, ooh zombies, and they shot some, and a guy got eaten, and I was all like "I don't give a shit about this", and I didn't read any more of them.

scrabface 04-27-2012 01:06 PM

ooh zombies

I think Ricky Gervais is a smug, unfunny piece of shit. Just for the record.

OANST 04-27-2012 04:45 PM

He is very smug, but sometimes he's funny. I'm actually enjoying "Life's Too Short".

Wings of Fire 04-27-2012 05:18 PM

I've never laughed at him, even when he surrounded himself with people far more talented and funny than him.

Sekto Springs 04-28-2012 12:10 AM

I actually don't even know if any of his jokes are actually funny, because I'm too distracted by how much I hate the guy himself. Like, everything he says, regardless of the character he's playing, just reeks of condescension. His voice has that kind of timbre where I'd rather listen to someone farting into a can. At least that actually sounds funny.

Mr. Bungle 04-28-2012 12:43 AM

Ricky Gervais can be funny. The british version of the Office had me in stiches a few times.

Strike Witch 04-28-2012 02:29 AM

I feel like most comedians tend to wear thin after a while, so I just kind of only ever watch a couple of comedy shows a year.

Dave Hughes sure wore himself out quickly though.

Phylum 04-28-2012 02:49 AM

Does Dave Hughes make you angry?

Strike Witch 04-28-2012 06:40 AM

No, he's just not that funny any more. I thought he was hilarious back on the Glass House ages ago.

Phylum 04-28-2012 08:49 PM

It was a joke.

Because that's how he's started his standup routine for as long as I can remember.

Daxter King 04-29-2012 12:30 PM

Louis CK is the best comedian right now. If you dispute this you are a fuckwit.
