That's an "A" for effort, Manco. I'd fire you some rep if I didn't have to spread it around first.

He means the Glukkons have probably been quietly slaughtering Mudokons in advance of announcing their new meat product, New ‘n’ Tasty. Which I think he is offering as a possible reason as to why “the biggest meat processing plant on Oddworld” originally only had 99 employees.

Aaaah, I read it as if he meant Mudokon's had been escaping slowly or something. My mistake.

Yeah. And bear in mind you can see posters for Mudokon Pops (not "New 'n' Tasty") in the later Zulags of RuptureFarms, a glowing billboard in Feeco. Depo, and there are barrels of the things scattered around SWHD. This was more than a proposal. This a was a product they had researched, developed, and put into mass production.

I know mulching your own staff is pretty desperate, but as the intro said, "profits were grim". They need a source of meat that's "already at hand" - something they don't need to go to any expense to find. By the end of the game Molluck orders every last worker in the factory killed, so he's not afraid of haemmoraging his workforce (literally in some cases). In fact, the way Abe intones "he ordered us all killed" suggests that there's already some fraction of the employees being killed.

I expect, had Abe not intervened, the profits from the successful launch would have gone in part into getting some new Scrubs in, while the Pop stock would have been ordered seperately. But to begin with RF was implied to be on the verge of bankruptcy; desperate times, desperate measures etc. When you're out of money, all you have is your assets.

Quite how long they expected Muds to work butchering their kin is a whole other can of worms.

Alternatively, maybe all the other meat processing plants on Oddworld are really, really small.

Havoc 04-22-2015 03:38 PM

Why are you assuming that the Mudokons to be chopped up would have to come out of the RF's workforce in the first place? It's a really weird assumption because who would run the factory to make said tasty treats?

Since the Magog Cartel has Sam in control they have a virtually limitless amount of Mudokons to throw into a grinder. They wouldn't have to tap into any factory's workforce.

Bullet Magnet 04-22-2015 03:50 PM

Depends if they want a lamb production model or a beef production model. Lamb is eaten because it is tender, and it is tender because it is young. Beef comes from fully grown animals, you get a lot of it, and its taste is heavily influenced by its diet and lifestyle.

So, does Rupture Farms want delicious baby mudokon meat, or does it want fully-grown "free-range" mudokons, raised happily and exercised regularly, with access to all the slave labour hours they could want?

Havoc 04-22-2015 04:41 PM

I think you're overthinking at this point...

That's hitting the lofty employment bar set by the original Oddysee!

Kinda took it as given that Twice ze Flaveur! would have Twice ze Mudokons. But yeah, bumping up the figures to the detriment of gameplay would be unpleasant.

Which I think he is offering as a possible reason as to why “the biggest meat processing plant on Oddworld” originally only had 99 employees.

It's not like the game says how RuptureFarms' size is measured (employee numbers, production, surface area, the entire holdings under the corporation name RuptureFarms?) let alone who told Abe that in the first place.

Quintology to end with an ancient Abe with a mane of feathers telling the Oddworld story to a bunch of labour eggs who take everything he says literally including gameplay mechanics.

FrustratedAssassin 04-23-2015 12:24 AM

Since we're discussing pointless shit about RF, I have another thing for you. The only Mudokons we save in the game are janitors. With the exception of the intro cutscene, you literally never see a Mudokon worker do anything else except scrub the floors.

Checkmate atheists.

Phylum 04-23-2015 12:49 AM

robots

Varrok 04-23-2015 12:55 AM

The truth is Abe saved only the janitors from RF, because he felt he was one of them. He didn't care about the others, letting them die in RF explosion wouldn't even make him blink. Just like killing many sligs, scrabs and paramites doesn't. Abe is not a pacifist, he's a merciless, cold-hearted murderer, who would DEVASTATE everything on his way. Makes you think WHO the good guy in the story is, doesn't it?
It's Mullock

Bullet Magnet 04-23-2015 02:15 AM

Why do I keep hearing about Rupture Farms exploding?

Varrok 04-23-2015 02:22 AM

It exploded off-screen.

STM 04-23-2015 11:41 AM

It exploded what with all that sprout gas.

Holy Sock 04-23-2015 12:06 PM

In the deleted MO newscasts they said there was a big Rupture Farms fire or something.

Scrabaniac 04-23-2015 05:02 PM

do you reckon they'll go into more detail as to Molluck's hiding? Like show a clip of troops set out to hunt for him or something?

Yup. (Slig News 01). But M.O.M. is hardly the most reliable news source.

Also, have we ever worked out what the word before 'state queen gluk' (40s) is?

Phylum 04-23-2015 09:48 PM

Wow, I remember waiting minutes for those to download back in the day :')

The word sounds like "euguaya", which is an awful lot like a something you make up if you get a bad start in Scrabble.

As for some reason some browsers now refuse to display that old site I feel the need to point out that the files are now also availble on TOGG:

Broken comment on line 6 might have something to do with it?

Nice css lol

Xavier 04-24-2015 06:59 AM

Hmmm could be the case. I'll look into it in the coming days.

And yeah this code is suboptimal, I wrote it almost 10 years ago (middle of 2006) :p

Well, the butchery charts Molluck brings up show a full-grown Mud, and the early Mudokon Pop design was clearly an adult's head. So I think it's fair to assume that's what they want.

Uggae Estate

I'm well proud for getting that one.

Bullet Magnet 04-24-2015 02:10 PM

I think Uggae was one of the old Mesopotamian gods of death. Sumerian or Akkadian or some such.

Both so you get double points!

Bullet Magnet 04-25-2015 01:00 PM

What do I win?

STM 04-25-2015 01:12 PM

What do you want? ;)

Bullet Magnet 04-25-2015 01:48 PM

A flying rocket-bike with spokey-dokeys.

STM 04-25-2015 02:13 PM

oh.
