They're not trying to advertise cigarettes, they are campaigning against the government trying to enforce plain packaging. The government can't ban opposition to it's proposals; to do such would be undemocratic and a massive violation of freedom of expression.

I personally am not sure what I find more disgusting, the current images of cut-up organs on cigarette packets or that horrid shade of vomit-green.

I understand that

And I've always been of the opinion that if you like doing something and you're not hurting anyone else (hurting yourself is fine), you should keep doing it.

In your country and mine, every single person who is smoking is hurting us, as it is our taxes that will be paying for their lung transplants and palliative care.

moxco 07-02-2011 07:39 PM

In fairness almost two-thirds of the cost of tobacco is in tax. Financially smokers probably cover themselves.

45 million on a horrible (and impossible to win) world cup bid, now that hurts the tax payer.

haven't read the entirety of this thread, haven't even read the OP, but i just wanted to let you all know that i've taken up smoking pipes as a hobby. i fucking love it. different tobaccos, pipes to collect, something to do. yep. so there you go.

i also smoke Pall Mall Red cigarettes, because they're pretty cheap around here and i like the taste. i couldn't give a flying monkey scrotum if they kill me, i smoke them because i enjoy them. that said, i would never encourage a non-smoker into having one, but at the same time, i'm not going to give them some long-winded, condescending lecture about them being bad for you and how much its already fucked me up. it's their choice, just like it was mine.

Ridg3 07-04-2011 01:07 AM

I recently acquired a pipe. Would you mind telling me some of your preferential smoke of choice for it, I would like to try some.

moxco 07-04-2011 02:58 AM

Longbottom Leaf of course!

STM 07-04-2011 03:54 AM

I have I think 15 pipes from my grandfather we inherited, I'm not aloud to touch them...no one is except my mother but they look really cool. When I'm 60 I'm going to smoke a pipe.

Dixanadu 07-04-2011 06:59 AM

We have a pipe. It is an airloom.

Smoking from it carries harsh penalties in the form of many fists.

STM 07-04-2011 07:13 AM

I had a friend who turned up to a house party with a pipe and a flat cap...I don't know what he was trying to look like but it did have weed in it. The pipe not the cap.

well i've not long started pipe smoking, but my favourite pipe tobacco so far is definitely English Mixture. i've also tried Oceans Breeze, but i really can't taste much. don't know if that's just me. i've got some called Kendal Mixed Cherry & Vanilla, and it smells like it, but i haven't tried it yet so i dunno if it's any good.

i get my baccy from this site seeing as i can't get my hands on pipe tobacco around here. try some different selections, it's all about the taste. you might want to look up tongue bite too, seeing as everyone pulls their own interpretation from information they read about it. it's nothing serious, more of an inconvenience. also pipe packing, it's not as easy as it looks. too tight, too loose, too damp, i'm still learning myself.

I got rather drunk last night and now I think I'm a bit of a social smoker, I smoked about 9 cigarettes last night and it's strange because this time I had no problems.

I highly regret it after waking up today though, I stink of smoke and I got this horrid taste in my mouth that I can't get rid off............................

Dixanadu 07-08-2011 02:40 AM

Don't smoke cigarettes, they stink like fuck.

Smoke rolling tobacco! It's not only less harmful (still pretty harmful, but less so than cigarettes), but it doesn't taste as rotten, the smell can be quite pleasant depending on the brand (the smell reminds me of old farmers) and of course, even if you or others dislike the smell, it doesn't hang on your clothes.

Magic!

JennyGenesis 07-08-2011 02:46 AM

I don't get a choice. I was getting them off friends and none of them smoke rolling tobacco.

STM 07-08-2011 05:12 AM

Only friends who do rizzlers are shit at rolling. I prefer sticking to cigs when I do smoke

Dixanadu 07-08-2011 09:54 AM

Ridg3 rolls a mighty fine fag.

I wasn't as adept at it at first, but I'm getting there.

DarkHoodness 07-08-2011 10:43 AM

Smoking is highly discouraged by me. And I'll even go as far to say that I find it disgusting...

But I smoked from a hookah a couple of times so I can talk. At the same time I can also see the social appeal in it despite how damaging it is to ones health. Manufactured cigs are gross, but roll-ups and pipes aren't so much and people who smoke those instead tend to reek a bit less.

For those who are too lazy to make your own roll-ups, while with friends in Germany, a couple of them had little machines that they stuck paper, tobacco and filters in and pulled a leaver and it'd make roll-ups for them. But I haven't seen anyone use them in this country. I'm sure you can find them somewhere though.

STM 07-08-2011 11:44 AM

More fun to do it yourself.

You can get them here, on a smaller scale.

You stick the filter and tobacco in, then roll the sides which feeds the paper in. Lick it, then roll it all the way in then it pops out the bottom.

My ol' boy uses it more than I do, I tend to put the paper in the wrong way so it comes out banjaxed.

STM 07-08-2011 01:16 PM

You guys need to try cuban cigars, they are as good as they are made out to be and they last for hours if you smoke them right.

JennyGenesis 07-08-2011 02:01 PM

I was hanging out with a friend tonight. There was absolutely no alcohol involved but I ended up smoking 4. After that I refused everytime he offered. It really isn't something I want to get into full time.

Given the number of posts you've mentioned smoking in the last week or so, I think it is quickly becoming a full time thing.

Also, what on earth is your boyfriend going to say when he sees you getting drunk and smoking?

STM 07-09-2011 03:05 AM

Trust me, you were very vehement in putting down smoking as God awful and you sort of incorporated a blog into it. Now you say "I don't want it to be a full time thing." Next you will do it full time but you won't like it...then you just won't care, it's what happens t omost smokers.

JennyGenesis 07-09-2011 05:14 AM

I feel like a right twit.............................

Seeing how easy it is to say "No" like I did yesterday, I need to stick to that. I have told my boyfriend about my smoking and he is not very impressed. Of course I apologized and I did tell him about the 4 I smoked yesterday. I must look like such a hypocrite right now and I feel guilty for what I've done after I shouted at my boyfriend about it and I feel stupid for smoking way more than he did even though I was perfectly sober. I realise my error and how stupid I look and therefore want to do something about it. Even if I never met my boyfriend and we never had that arguement it's still something I would not want to get into.

Ridg3 07-09-2011 06:45 AM

Rolling machines are shit and slow and were designed for the lazy person.

JennyGenesis 07-09-2011 02:40 PM

Went out with friends tonight..........again............
drinking................again................
But I refused everytime I was offered a cigarette and didn't smoke once :)

STM 07-09-2011 02:59 PM

Congrats, you have more will power than I have ever been able to muster on smoking.

What's the matter with cigarettes? I mean, what makes you refuse them? Do you think you'll be not pure after smoked, or are you afraid of being caught by your mom? ;)

STM 07-10-2011 02:32 AM

He might not want the health problems involved with smoking...that might put you off.

abe is now! 07-10-2011 02:35 AM

He's not going to have any healt problems if he sometimes smokes a cigarette and not twenty cigarettes a day!

STM 07-10-2011 02:39 AM

Every time you smoke you significantly increase your chances of getting various cancers, decreasing your cardio and lowering your sperm count. Oh and God kills a kitten.
