I watched Green Lantern last night. Ehh. Kind of lame. Not the best superhero movie I've seen, that's for sure.

Meh, Too mainstream in my opinion (not that I am a hipster), I actually enjoy cartoon series of super hero's better.

Mr. Bungle 03-18-2012 03:25 PM

Same here, they stay more true to the comic books and are generally more fun to watch. There have been plenty of good comic book movies, however.

Also saying something is "too mainstream" is the stupidest reason to dislike something. Ever.

I have two seasons of The IT Crowd on a flashdrive, My Grandma says it's quite entertaining.

The IT Crowd is very good. Moss reminds me somewhat of some people here.

I'm sorry if I mislead you but I couldn't think of anything other than mainstream because it provides an example of what I am talking about "Is the stupidest reason" -I don't know one word to express that.

I think we have too much of a shitty education system in New Zealand that the whole mainstream thing has gotten to my head.

Again I am sorry if I mislead you.

Mr. Bungle 03-18-2012 05:56 PM

It's okay, I couldn't quite put my finger on what made Green Lantern so lame either. There was just something about it that I did not like.

And I sort of understand what you meant by too mainstream. It kind of had that "general audience" kind of feel like they really watered it down for the general public, sacrificing a lot of good just to make it more profitable. Is that what you meant?

sheridanm962 03-18-2012 08:50 PM

That's EXACTLY what I meant, thank you for seeing that.

Mr. Bungle 03-18-2012 10:51 PM

Okay. You can have your rep back.

Crashpunk 03-19-2012 01:10 AM

War of the Worlds The 2005 remake.

Really liked it, I was depressing but it's what I expected. It got into the action really quickly, the special effects were done very well and the sound that the tripods made were amazing though our sound system :tard:

JennyGenesis 03-19-2012 01:15 AM

I watched the new muppet movie.

Whilst it was great, the 4th wall jokes were just annoying and unfunny...

Venom was underused.

I have the opposite problem with that film. Venom shouldn't have been in it at all. The symbiote story arc was fine, but the whole Topher Grace turning into Venom as a tag-on enemy in the last ten minutes of the movie was dumb.

It might have worked better if Peter and Harry put aside their differences and teamed up earlier, so there would have been more of a duo versus duo aesthetic. This could have worked if they threw out the whole "lol Harry has amnesia" thing and just kept him an asshole up until the scene where his butler reveals his dad fragged himself, which should have taken place about half-way through as opposed to during the film's climax. That way, you have the whole second half of the film to develop Venom better as a character. It would have also done away with the blatant deus ex machina of Harry Hob-Goblin air-surfing in at the last minute.

Mr. Bungle 03-19-2012 11:30 AM

I just thought they made Venom into a pussy compared to the comics and, hell, even the '90's cartoon.

Manco 03-19-2012 11:54 AM

My copy of El Topo arrived at the weekend, and now I have no idea what the fuck anything means.

Good movie.

MeechMunchie 03-19-2012 11:55 AM

EDIT: Speedy shit.

Basically, they should have put all the important stuff earlier in the movie and filled the rest with Venom-related shennanigans.

Fun stuff, huh?

Manco 03-19-2012 12:10 PM

Very much so.

Mr. Bungle 03-19-2012 12:15 PM

I just googled that. Sounds... interesting, to say the least. Might consider watching pretty soon, someone should convince me. I'm not usually a big fan of westerns.

OANST 03-19-2012 12:19 PM

Well, if you go back a page or two, you can witness us talking about it. If that conversation doesn't convince you then nothing will.

Mac Sirloin 03-19-2012 01:02 PM

I saw Redline. The Anime with the racing and the amazing animation, and I completely agree with what Wings said. It was soulless, bland and mediocre. It did not deliver on the racing aspect enough and while what little plot there was was cool, it was still pretty much nonsense and that romance had no fucking business being there at all. God damn it.

Mr. Bungle 03-19-2012 01:29 PM

Someone should recommend me a good anime to start watching considering I've never really watched "good" anime.

OANST 03-19-2012 01:32 PM

Cowboy Bebop?

Mr. Bungle 03-19-2012 01:37 PM

That's what I was gonna get. I've heard amazing things about that show. Does it live up to the hype?

It's pretty damn good. The ending was great.

Don't bother watching the movie. It's pointless.

I think you mean hentai.....

Daxter King 03-19-2012 01:47 PM

I saw 21 Jump Street like a week ago or something. It was hilarious, seriously one of the best comedies I have seen in a long ass time. If you see it and don't find it amusing, you're just a bad person.

Also Mac, it has the same director as that meatball movie that rains.

Mr. Bungle 03-19-2012 01:47 PM

You haven't seen Cowboy Bebop? I thought you were the second biggest anime fan on this whole forum, and that's supposed to be, like, the anime.

Also, has anyone ever watched Desert Punk? My friend says it's really great.

Manco 03-19-2012 01:48 PM

Cowboy Bebop sounds good actually, I love bounty hunters and I love sci-fi.

Dynamithix 03-19-2012 02:14 PM

Is Neon Genesis Evangelion any good? I remember watching that when I was younger and I thought the opening theme was good. The series was a bit depressing from what I saw.

Sekto Springs 03-19-2012 02:49 PM

Everyone will tell you how good NGE is, but it's only okay. Imagine Catcher In The Rye, but twice as angsty, with the occasional giant robot monster fight.

And Cowboy Bebop is thee anime, and anyone who hasn't seen it has no right to call themselves an anime fan. As Shinji would put it; Joe is a phony. A PHONY.
