Sherry is still working with him, at least according to the link.
Oh.
Then I blame her. ;)

I'm just disappointed about the fact that the guy never finishes what he starts

You can't just walk into a game studio and make a game happen. Stranger barely made any sales, so why would anybody invest their time in another Oddworld game/movie? I certainly think they could make a successful game given the right support, but I understand the hesitance from potential investors.

This isn't Halo. A company like Bungie can do whatever they want because they make Microsoft a killing. Halo 2 would never have happened if Combat Evolved was a financial failure, despite the critical reception.

The Transformers movies were terrible and everybody knows it, but you better believe they're getting set to film the third one because people went to see it. If someone picks up the cost of Citizen Siege, I imagine Lorne will have no problem sticking to the project.

That's a shame really since now some blame has to be shifted onto her part. It's like she just stood by while Lorne continues on with his brainstorms without actually doing anything.

I said it before and I'll say it again: Get Gabe Newell to buy the company. Steam makes a tonne of money a month, franchises like Half Life and Left 4 Dead are as popular as ever, plus Lorne and Gabe seem to have great respect for one another. We'll get the games everyone wants with the money put towards them, and there will be a better chance of CS and the Oddworld movies actually being made.

Evidentally she's not the only one standing by doing nothing and producing no results.

Nate 01-19-2010 12:38 AM

Or possibly there's a hell of a lot of shit going on that we don't know about.

I mean, it might feel like Lorne announces tonnes of stuff and never completes any of it, but I guarantee that there are a hundred more things on the boil that he never mentioned publically. Also, they've been working constantly this whole time. It's not like Lorne and Sherry sit all day by the pool drinking daiquiris and occassionally saying "What pointless idea should I announce today to assuage the fans' curiosity?"

They certainly do.

I'm not saying I expect results immediately when Lorne gets started on something, what I'm a little confused by is the fact that whenever he says he gets started on something, a year later we find out it's actually put on hold potentially forever, and then it turns out that he was actually focusing on 10 million other things. It's a bit frustrating since you never even know what to look forward to.
But I guess all we can do at this point is wait and see how this Oddmobb thing works out, hopefully Lorne pulls through this time.

MojoMan220 01-19-2010 08:10 PM

There's only two choices: say something or say nothing, which would be equally frusterating. At least we know things are being worked on. It's very hard to make things happen in the movie and game business. It takes years, and nothing is ever certain. When Lorne says Citizen Siege is on hold, it doesn't mean he's lost interest already. If Miramax picked it up tomorrow then the project would be back on track, no question.

Also, I imagine this Antisocial Network won't take up too much of Lorne's time, so it probably won't affect the progress of these other projects. This allows the OddMobb team to keep busy while they wait for a breakthrough. Would I prefer a different route? Of course, but social networking sites are all the rage these days and obviously require less time and money than a game or movie. If this thing catches on, then awesome. If not, it won't be a big deal.

skillya_glowi 01-19-2010 08:38 PM

I wonder if Lorne ever reads this.

I really doubt it...

Nate 01-20-2010 01:19 AM

I really hope not.

What with my post on the first page and all.

Leto 01-20-2010 03:38 AM

I like to think he reads my every word and values my opinion.

LOL

I've always like the Oddworld series and I like Lorne, but seriously? Everything now just feels like the dead parrot sketch from Monty Python.

Was that sketch part of the Flying Circus? If so, what episode?

Xavier 01-20-2010 07:46 AM

Yeah, perhaps... but you aren't going to make him look at the forums, do you?

OANST 01-20-2010 07:52 AM

What?

No, really. I don't understand the question.

I thought the complaint was that he's taking on so much he isn't focusing on one project. So you want him to start reading OWF.

That's not my complaint.

MojoMan220 01-20-2010 02:23 PM

Personally, I'd be a little curious to see what my fans were saying about me. I wouldn't expect him to spend any substantial time reading threads regarding paramite pie recipes, but something like this... it's very possible he's taken at least a peak.

Leto 01-20-2010 03:03 PM

Lol. That is wishful thinking. He may have peeked at the forums a while ago, but not this particular thread.

Zukan 01-20-2010 05:35 PM

Don't listen to these losers Lorne, go beat the shit out of the system I've got your back. http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...karate_kid.gif

Sekto Springs 01-20-2010 06:44 PM

I'm so sending him the link to this thread via Facebook. :3

skillya_glowi 01-20-2010 07:02 PM

Dunno, if I were him, I'd be pretty curious to see how his loyal fans are receiving the news of his new projects. We are pretty much the first ones to see the announcement and actually care, after all.

Sekto Springs 01-20-2010 07:14 PM

I'm not sure if Lorne is all that concerned with what we want anymore.
We're Oddworld fans, and though that intrinsically makes us Lorne fans too, he doesn't necessarily have to care about what we think anymore if he's not pursuing Oddworld-themed projects. He could leave us in the dust, floating around in limbo wondering what happened, while he pursues an entirely new fanbase.

Who knows? He could be creating something extremely different from Oddworld. In which case our input is somewhat useless. Granted, it would be a dick move to leave us hanging and neglect our opinions of his performance, but he doesn't necessarily have any obligation.

skillya_glowi 01-20-2010 07:31 PM

Well, I feel appreciated. :/

I could care less if he looked at the forums. I doubt it would change his mind on any particular thing, but it's human nature to want to know what people think about you and your ideas. Personally, I think it's a little arrogant not to take advantage of this focus group of sorts, but that's just me. It would take literally two minutes to come to this site every few months simply to gain some mild understanding of what's on the fans' minds.

Sekto Springs 01-20-2010 08:10 PM

Wasn't Alf actually Lorne or was it used by one of his hired staff?
Perhaps a multi used by anyone who worked at OWI?

skillya_glowi 01-20-2010 08:55 PM

Nah, Alf was a great fan from England who passed away.
If we're talking about the same Alf.

Sekto Springs 01-20-2010 09:01 PM

No, I'm referring to the member of OWF named Alf.
He served as OWI's official spokesperson on the forums, but also never broke character in the spirit of "Dear Alf".

skillya_glowi 01-20-2010 09:14 PM

Oh, then I have no clue. :P

To the best of my knowledge, Lorne never visits OWF. However, when I spoke to him in 2008, he did express a certain level of perplexed amazement and honour that there is still an active group of loyal fans interested in Oddworld.

Xavier 01-21-2010 03:22 AM

That's the feeling I've always got Nate...

Oh and for those who are interested, Alf and Alf's Assistant were an OWI employees, not Lorne

Jesus, you spoke to him? How does one do this 0.o?

Xavier 01-21-2010 03:38 AM

You go to him and talk to him... he's a friendly guy so it's not that hard actually.

It's easier than you think. That isn't to say that once you find him he'll give you the time of day though...
