Software Bug 09-20-2009 12:13 AM

:

()
Motherboard: intel
Processor: Intel Pentium 4 2.8ghz dual core (the normal one , not core 2 duo)
Video card: Geforce 7200
HDD: 640 GB
Memory: 1 GB DDR1

that's all i know.

I searched a lot but I can't seem to find a problem for your error :( Your hardware is more than capable for the game. I am really sorry, but at this point I just don't know what is causing this.

joshkrz 09-20-2009 02:01 PM

Haha that demo is great, seeing as though people have problems, perhaps it would be useful to you that you get the hardware specs of test computers.

- Pentium 4 @ 2.8GHZ (Not Hyper-threading)
- DDR1 1GB RAM @ 155Mhz
- Nvidia Geforce 7600GS AGP @ 500Mhz GPU and 600MHZ DDR3 512Mb Graphics RAM (Overclocked)
- Screen Resolution 1680 x 1050 on Full graphics.
- 320Gb IDE Hard Drive @ 7500RPM

Everything worked fast and smooth for me. Although I should note that when I fell from the platform, I landed in mid air, on the clouds, I walked for a bit then landed on the ground.

Still though this is great.

Varrok 09-20-2009 09:05 PM

My specs are much lower but still good to play on full det and high resolution (1280x1024pix [my screen's maximum]):
Intel Celeron 2.0Ghz
SDR 512 MB RAM
Nvidia GeforceFX 5500 AGP - 256RAM (DDR?)
80GB HDD
Without any overclocking :) I haven't thought it'll work that fine on my PC.... but it's only 1 model 1 scene demo...

Software Bug 09-20-2009 11:05 PM

Great thanks for the stats:) Will help me figure out how to integrate the full levels. Also, in the animation demo no Level of Detail's were present so that should crank up the performance of full-scale levels.

As for the walking on the clouds, I know, I hadn't integrated the health system yet so I could not tell him to die as he had no health :p In the real game you will die when you fall ;) Dont worry haha!

I am going to get my oldest pc working again today, see if it runs on there, because that is really a very low-performance pc haha!

AlexFili 09-20-2009 11:40 PM

I have a semi-crap pc;
Windows XP
2.8 Ghz
2038MB RAM
128MB Graphics Card (came with the pc)

Works fine on both Fastest and Fantastic (640x480). The Scrab seems to look to the left a lot for some reason, apart from that it looks nice. It would be nice to check it out via some other camera angles if that's possible. Also you can fall off the map into infinity :D

Looks really amazing so far. Can't wait to play as a Slig.

Software Bug 09-20-2009 11:47 PM

Thank you for the tech specs AlexFili :)
As for the second subject, please read this post for an explanation :)

AlexFili 09-21-2009 02:43 AM

Oops. I forgot to read that bit. It's amazing for a fangame!
I'm glad this runs on my PC :D

If you require an installer wizard, I can build one for you.

Also I made an app that allowed me to update my game on user computers, almost automatically, only updating changed files instead of reinstalling the full game. I have no need for it at the moment, so you can use it if you like. PM me if or when you require such a program.

--

Also, with the user computer specs you can pin point problems some user have more easily.

I forgot to mention I'm running a stripped out version of Windows XP SP2 Media Center Edition 2005 with Rollup 2. Perhaps STM you are having problems due to Windows Vista or 7?

Oddey 09-21-2009 11:04 AM

I was running Vista. No problem here. But you can never really be certain with this sort of thing.

Looking great so far Tim and Greiver. Keep it up.

Griever_M3n 09-22-2009 01:25 AM

ODST :(

haha yeah so i spent like the last week animating non stop... and then ODST came out... and now my time is spent a little more erratically.

i have just finished my 15th animation for the scrab

modelled and textured abe that looks relatively like abe

plus im making a website so rendering everything again,

an update with a little more sustenance will be coming soon :P

stay odd

Software Bug 09-22-2009 01:37 AM

Haha got ODST yesterday, have been playing non-stop since :o
Will get working on Oddworld shortly

Griever_M3n 09-22-2009 01:42 AM

Scrab Renders

Hey just making some portfolio pieces so i chucked the scrab in there with some nice renders. so far he does 18 animations, some very similar.

we'll be doing multiples of each animation to make them seem more natural. So that 2 scrabs never do exactly the same thing.

Theres a rendered glukkon but its nothing you guys haven't seen before...

So the Scrab has Howl - big
Stomp
Idle1
Idle2
Leap
Jump_dropping down
Turn 180
Sniff (low howl)
Howl Medium
Howl Low
Walk Light
Walk Medium
Attack
Walk Heavy
Die Forward
Die Backward

holla

Varrok 09-23-2009 09:29 AM

Much better than the previous :) More similar to original AO/AE Scrab

Venks 09-23-2009 04:21 PM

Oh yeah this is awesome. Can't wait to see the Mudokon model when you're done with that.
Oh and the Slig model you're secretly working on because you heard how much I love Sligs. *wink wink*

AlexFili 09-23-2009 11:46 PM

Looks fantastic so far!

Oddey 09-24-2009 04:50 AM

That has got to be one fo the best looking fan animations of a scrab ever. I know there aren't many, but it really does look great.

Software Bug 09-24-2009 05:12 AM

Thanks guys! :) really appreciate it :) Will be updating the scrabania level soon, It's coming along real nice. Cant yet give you a date for the Scrab Animation Demo 2 but we're working on it :p

STM 09-26-2009 02:01 AM

=D Will it be autoinstallable or I cant play them! DX

Software Bug 09-26-2009 02:19 AM

Yeah I don't know yet, btw, thats like your 50th post asking that.
There is no reason why you shouldn't be able to play it without installing it, its pretty much the same as extracting the .zip or .rar in your program files directory.

I'm considering re-writing an open source version of the ALIVE engine, reckon it would be a lot of effort to create HD 2d sprites from your 3d renderings ;)?

Crashpunk 09-26-2009 06:54 AM

What...No...p..p..paul! Your back!!!

Sorry. Loving the 3D Scrab Demo!

Software Bug 09-26-2009 11:58 AM

He is already back for a while I believe :p
Hey Paul, I like the idea of Griever M3n and I helping you with the Alive Engine, of course Griever M3n would have to give his feedback on this as wel, but if he is ok with it I would be glad to share a work with you, but let's do it in a closed circuit so that none of the files get "leaked". Of course Griever M3n has to give his opinion about this so I'm not promising anything right now :)

Paul 09-26-2009 01:35 PM

Thats cool, I'm planning on using the original sprites from the game, but dropping some high resolution replacements in later would be awesome ;) Of course this means a lot of work before I even start because I need to finish reversing the other AO sprite types..

Griever_M3n 09-27-2009 01:33 AM

Yeah man i'd love to help out any way i can, just depends if/when the time is right.
When do you think you'd have the completed Alive Engine up and running?

Paul 09-27-2009 02:17 AM

Completed? Not for quite some time, looking at months tbh :(

Griever_M3n 09-27-2009 02:20 AM

Sweet deal, I'm in.
Cya then

Paul 09-27-2009 09:03 AM

Yeah I was kinda rushed writing that post, what I also meant to say was I could create some sort of sprite/animation test bed thing so you could play around with it way before the engine code is completed.

STM 09-27-2009 12:01 PM

Hey Tim! =D

Is the game gonna be exactly the same story as oddysee?

Griever_M3n 09-29-2009 12:15 AM

Abe/Mudokon Update

Hey sorry for the lack of words lately kids.

I've got a fully modelled and textured Abe/Mudokon (not much between them besides a texture change) that looks pretty damn familiar.

Now would be the time to explain that i have an artistic style that is not exactly the same as the Oddworld Inhabitants team so the familiar model will look much better in the game but possibly not perfect.

The game is still very much under way model and animation wise. I've also been working on my own portfolio website that I'm sure I'll show you once its up.

I'm way too excited about modelling and animating the Slig now as well. Which is going to be the epitome of fan made win cakes.

Also you might be interested to know, the skirt-like-loin-cloth that Abe and the Mudokons have will be full animated and pretty for your 3d eye candy like pleasure. Also he has over 15 bones in his head alone... unlike the entire Glukkon which is 17 bones. So we'll be able to show you the opening screen very soon (Wow that might be an overestimate but that'd be pretty sweet right?)

Tl;dr - I've been moving slowly because I want Abe to be super duper sweet in the face.

Check out the attachment for some updatage as usual.

Another update in not nearly as long

<3 Griever m3n

PS. So much ODST. (Gamertag is griever m3n for those that want to win the game)

AlexFili 09-29-2009 05:25 AM

That mudokon looks fantastic so far :)

Griever_M3n 09-29-2009 08:04 AM

Hey i made a film reel for my website by the by,
it has a few new renders of the glukkon and the scrab if your interested but nothing brand new yet.

film reel 2009 - http://www.vimeo.com/6750397

and i totally just nailed the bones in the rig for the mudokon so he can sneak so awesomely.

peace out for now

Hey Tim! =D

Is the game gonna be exactly the same story as oddysee?

Almost :) As its a true remake, can't reveal to much yet but you will like it :)

Paul 09-29-2009 03:15 PM

Those animations are nice ;D seems like some have timing problems though? Or what I mean is some are bit too fast, and some seem a bit slow?

Griever_M3n 09-29-2009 05:43 PM

Yeah the laugh and stuff are relatively slow which is fine. the timing is completely manipulatable when we are editing it with audio, which Maya doesn't do very well.

It's all good :D

Software Bug 09-29-2009 11:57 PM

Yeah we can edit the timing of any animations in the engine so that isn't such a big deal :)
