Of course they weren't in AO. They were only in AE.
|
I suppose they could begin the film with a sort of backstory, where we see Oddworld and its people before the... fall.
Though I think it is best to learn of its past the same way we did in the game, with Abe leaving Rupture Farms and discovering his legacy for himself. And for us. |
I think AO's story will remain the same but will be told in a different way.
the way it was told in gameplay can't be told the same way in movie. So I'm sure the story telling will change. |
I think that they're going to have a bit of fun with Abe escaping from Rupture Farms. I'm not sure if he'll know how to chant at that point (who would have taught him?) and so some of the workers are going to have to meet some grisly (yet humorous) ends...think the backstory movie from AE ;)
|
I'm pretty sure Abe just knows how to chant because of instinct being a mudokon, who would teach him at RUPTUREFARMS!!!
The thought of a male mudokon drone impregnating Sam is nasty.....her big...blobby body..ech. Sorry for bringing it up but seriously think about it. man I have a feeling that this forum will be a lot better when the movie comes out. |
It's possible that she wasn't big and blobby until she was impregnated. Then her uterus got to work popping out bulging eggs.
I think termites queens work much the same way. EDIT: Doing me some research, I found out that ant queens only mate once then produce offspring until she dies but termite queens have a single king who continues to mate with her for the rest of their lives. |
I think how Sam makes eggs is probably better left a mystery :)

:
There are storystones explaining Abe how to chant, but they are in the Monsaic Tempel But on the other hand Abe should know how to chant from the very start to free the 99 mudokons My bet is that he will learn it in the Monsaic Tempel ;) |
now I think I remember that there was even a story stone in rupture farms I, in the beginning telling you how to chant and rescue mudokons, which is good for the game but funny because it wouldn't make sense in the movie at all if Rupturefarms gave info on how their slaves can escape.
|
I'm pretty sure you only learn it in the Monsaic Temple, can you show me where he learns it in RF?
|
It's probably something that came naturally (what with him being the savior and all that), but he only honed it in the Monsiac Temple. I would think that other Mudokons would have to train much harder before they can gain the ability to magically chant.
|
Possession is only explained in Rupturefarms but there is a scrolling display that explains that muds can be freed by leading them to bird portals and chanting.
In-universe, I would say that it's something muds can innately do but Abe only realised at the beginning of the game that it opened portals. EDIT: I found the screen where the display talks about chanting. I cut and pasted to get the whole text. http://www.oddworldforums.net/attach...1&d=1156335800 |
He learned the chant in RF but his possision ability only in MT, right?
:p |
Unless the player works it out himself, yes.
|
yeah, because you can possess sligs before you leave Rupture farms.
|
That makes sense for gameplay, but not really for the story. Abe probably wants to help his fellow-slaves to get out (there is a sign before the exit that if you leave, all of the other workers in this section will die, though again that might just be for gameplay [how do they know that you're trying to get out? does it simply apply to everyone?]) but will he know how? Perhaps there are some wild-caught mudokons that teach the others how to chant, maybe for peace of mind? And then Abe finds out that he can use his for something.
Story-wise, I think it would be better if he knew nothing of his culture (because he started off not knowing much about anything) or of special powers and what-not, and was taught everything at the temple, maybe from the wild mudokons and BigFace. |
I thought it was cool how BigFace was so mysterious but this time around I would like to see some more backstory on him.
|
silvertwilight that's pretty much the point I was tring to make earlier.
And if too much was told about Bigface he wouldn't really be mysterious. I like it better that he is more a shadowy character, it makes him seem more powerful. |
