Ever heard of the phrase, 'each to their own', Mac?

I'm not trying to curry your anger or start a debate with you, but have you actually read Jacob Acaye's opinion on this? Y'know, the kid who watched his little brother get murdered?
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2012...hild-kony-2012

Here. Try not to go on a rampage at OH for fostering such sentiments.

No, in my country it goes 'To each their own' and usually it's from fence-sitting little agnostics getting drilled by resolute Atheists and Theists on why they can't make up their damn minds on their own.

You are currying my anger by throwing Jacob's fucking story at me again, you manipulated little turd. I get it. It's horrible. It's beyond words, but there are more legitimate ways to help than through Invisible Children, moreover you're doing more harm than good by helping IC since the money and attention you give them does not trickle down to help the displaced and victimised whatsoever.

And OH deserves everything he gets when he acts like a pedantic fucknut, and if I may be so bold, is fully capable of speaking for himself, clearly.

I'm not saying there are bigger and badder problems in the world, I'm saying that eliminating Kony is small potatoes and won't solve a damn thing in Uganda and East Africa. I'm saying that there are dozens of others like him (and many, MANY worse) and that the surest way to bring about peace would be to bring order through a non-corrupt government that isn't batshit insane. Start at the top and work downwards. Eliminating Kony is like a man getting rid of the problem of a boil on his finger by infecting it with a flesh eating virus.

Yes, setting up a better government system would certainly be more beneficial for Uganda and Africa, I don’t disagree. This doesn’t disqualify people from wanting Kony arrested and stopping the LRA. We can, in fact, focus on both of these tasks non-exclusively.

Really, neither of us could know, but presuming that they'd go to the extent of in any way solving the Child Soldiering other than a complete, economically impossible reeducation of them or complete elimination of the army as a whole is naive. Once all of these whinging assholes get Kony taken down, pat themselves on the back and return to being cynical wastes of space all of these poor fucking bastards are going to fill the power vacuum and just keep on raping, pillaging and marauding.

I think you have little or no solid evidence of this actually happening, and I’m of the opinion that a charity dedicated to raising awareness of the atrocious treatment of these children wouldn’t just up and abandon them all because one guy got brought down. That isn’t to say it couldn’t happen, and I certainly think we should be scrutinizing what happens down the line to ensure it doesn’t.

()
Except you don't give a shit. If you did give a shit, you'd look into this beyond Invisible Children's sparkly video and sad sack manipulation and realize there are much, much more significant factors at play other than what is essentially just witch hunting a serial killer until we can all feel less tenuous white guilt.

[...]

Don't you call me fallacious, you little shit. Are you not a Reddit going faggot? Do you really think you're helping after wandering across Invisible Children and joining in with an impotent chorus of white college bums who could not begin to understand the meticulous foreign workings of Ugandan government any more than they understand our politics? (and no, I'm not claiming I do, but I've done a hell of a better job researching and caring about this than you have) Is Invisible Children not lying to our faces through their claimed intentions and easily researched financial history? It's a gigantic fucking useless buttpat and you should be ashamed to not have been smarter about your involvement in it.

I'm not trying to dissuade you from being involved at all, I'm just telling you that there are more than two sides to this and I want people on the one that involves taking some shit for Africa. Good on your for becoming interested, now start digging and don't stop until you've opened up a metaphorical, realistic escape hatch for blood diamond mining and other horrors.

Oh by the way, I don’t visit Reddit, I don’t like Invisible Children’s methods or approach, and I certainly have been doing a bit of digging. I’ve read and agree with most of the points raised in this thread and in the articles linked. So please, don’t shit down my neck for daring to disagree with your points.

Good, but don't climb up my ass for taking issue with the rampant slacktivism surrounding this and jumping around because, sure enough Reddit and thousands of little shitsters like it are at the center of things muddling it up.

Why bring religion and irreligion into this? I'm quite happy being an agnostic because rather than being a hard-line atheist/ religious bastard, I can mediate between the best of both. So if that's a shot at me for whatever reason, back the fuck off. And you obviously didn't read the article because Jacob says that media attention in whatever form highlights the problem, it's not gone away, it's moved, out of the scope of IC, and global condemnation could be just the beginning.

In future, refrain from insulting me for making a point, or I won't be so polite, rather I'll reply in kind. Because trust me I can shout louder than you.

E: Though I'd rather not shout at all =P.

Wow wow, when did this happen?

Wings of Fire 03-08-2012 03:48 PM

Just a heads up, I don't think it's correct to call yourself 'An agnostic'. It implies an organization or group identity.

You do realise that there have been previous attempts to kill or capture Kony, each resulting in many deaths, especially of said child soldiers who Invisible Children hopes to liberate. Though as their relatives weren't shown sobbing in a video that aims to provoke emotions, their lives probably matter little. Invading Uganda, or indeed funding a military that is known to rape and steal, would more likely than not only create a more detrimental situation.

Yeah. It's called "Personal Heroes".

I retract my sarcastic apology. If you think I’m actually sorry for not falling for your stupid joke so you could turn around and make me look like a fool you’ve got another thing coming. If you also think that I’m going just be cool with the fact that you tried this in the first place you also got another coming, it was a stupid, flame baiting poor excuse for a joke and you ought to be ashamed for trying to cause that kind of strife so you could have a laugh.
Hee what an asstard.

Yeah. He consistently sucks.

Oh, and the only reason he became calm and conciliatory after that is because he had reported me to the mods.

shaman 03-09-2012 02:06 PM

I was upset by your picture. It's nothing to joke around about.

MeechMunchie 03-09-2012 03:12 PM

I almost want to join just to rip the piss out of Scarecrow.

Also, I like how the first guy has you in his sig when you've got less than 500 posts. It seems you make your presence known wherever you go.

MA 03-09-2012 03:43 PM

T-nex 03-09-2012 05:14 PM

Anyway, please stick to the topic :)

I suggest making a blog about this or something, if you guys wanna discuss what's happening on Doublefine's forums.

Strike Witch 03-09-2012 05:40 PM

This isn't 4chan and we're not a troll strike-force. All we ask is a nice, quiet bridge to lurk under.

More to the point, I'd rather screw up a forum that isn't owned by people who make good games.

shaman 03-10-2012 01:43 PM

Quite a few people from my neck of the woods are currently engaged in humping a charity which is more likely to provoke unrest than to stop it, by handing out weapons whilst demanding that the LRA disarm. It's all over facebook. I don't want to live here anymore.

Dynamithix 03-12-2012 12:01 PM

what is this i don't get this
