It was Earth all along! (you've finally made a monkey out of me! :P)

THE DOG DIES AT THE END
|
"Avatar"
Bloody awesome, even though the story is simplistic and the film has many times when it's basically yelling; "Look at my CGI! Look at how awesome I am!" |

It was all a dream.

turns out the detective did it.

The parrot was deaf, and it was a butler convention.
Also: stop it. |
"The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button"
Did I ever tell you i've been struck by lightning seven times? |
500 Days of Summer:
I liked it. I mean, it was a romantic comedy, but it was watchable. Percy Jackson and the Lightning thief: Holy fucking bad. I watched it because someone else bought my ticket, but it was just a big tardbus Harry Potter ripoff that never tried to pretend it wasn't. Alexandra Daddario can go fuck off to the hole in Kristen Stewart she fell out of. Fucking giant eyed poor acting fuckbitchslut. Videodrome: I don't even know what the fuck. I was high when I watched it. |
:
Were the special fx at least a bit of a saving grace? :
I recently tapped the On-Demand well and watched me some Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and Drag Me to Hell. Cloudy was great, as I expected it would be. The humor was just quirky enough to set it apart from most other CG family fare, but also didn't insist upon itself or try too hard either. It had a good balance of completely ridiculous fun and believable character-to-character dynamics (ie Flint's relationship with his dad). Drag Me To Hell was exactly what I expected it to be as well. Sam Raimi loves the cheese, and he piled it on like it was a mountain of nachos. I was a little disappointed in the lack of crazy camera work that made his early work so unique and fun, and I was hoping for more gore. I definitely see the parallels between DMtH and the Evil Dead, Evil Dead was way better of course, but you can't really surpass it in goofy, cult horror awesomeness either. All in all I enjoyed it for what it was, not unlike I enjoyed House of 1000 Corpses for the same reasons. |
I read the first Percy Jackson book and it was fairly enjoyable - the Potterisation is a lot less noticeable than in the film.
|
Just saw the final episode of Dollhouse. It was... good. Perhaps my expectations were way too high after Firefly so it wasn't as amazing as I was expecting, but it was good.
I'm glad they continued on from the Season 1 final episode. Wasn't quite what I expected, but I suppose they had to give it a happy ending somehow. |
:
i sort of liked it for the random, weird scenes, and for some reason it reminded me of the game Manhunt, probably due to all the VHS's. the reason i didn't fully like it was due to the snuff movie element it had, which is what it seemed to pretty much revolve around anyway. that and the numerous scenes that just bore me to tears while i waited for something insane to happen again. but i'm gonna download it anyway and re-watch. EDIT: :

Nick Frost's Danger! 50,000 Volts!.
It was okay. |
Humanity's End. Ultra low budget space opera epic. I've heard many people complain about CGI that looks like a PS1 cut scene, but this takes the cake. It was still amusing though, and was kind of like having all six Star Wars movies crammed into less than an hour and a half.

I watched Up last night.
And if anyone hasn't seen it, you really should. It wasn't anything like I expected. I cried somuch at the beginning when Ellie died, I wasn'texpecting something so sudden. Also,Doug is a genius. :
- Rexy |
Am I the only one that didn't think UP was all that great?
It was good, don't get me wrong, all of Pixar's stuff is. I just found the film itself to be kind of dull, and if it was done by anyone other than Pixar it probably wouldn't have even gotten a second glance. Of course I can't expect everything they make to be as good as The Incredibles. |
I didn't enjoy UP much. But I can see why others would. It was a nice adventure movie with an interesting concept.
It just didn't really appeal to me... Especially since I have a thing with old people. I don't mind them, but it's hard for me to relate with them in movies and such.. The kid was also a bit too goofy. I loved the little dog though. |
I thought the opening life story bit was the most touching thing Pixar's done, and then the rest of the movie was ok. (EDIT: by Pixar standards :p)
Just seen the new full length trailer for Toy Story 3 :D |
:
I completely disagree. I thought the Incredibles was crap, while Up was gold. |
:
Toy Story 3 looks really good, I like how they've moved Andy on and aren't just picking up from the same 8[?] year old boy they had in the previous two movies. I'mnot looking forward to Cars 2 though, I thought thatwas the worst movie Pixar/Disney have ever made. Also, was anyone else shocked to see blood in Up? - Rexy |
I don't remember any blood.
|
When Carl hit the man touching his postbox over the head with his cane, there was blood on the man's head.
- Rexy |
Up is awesome. Cars is shit. Just restating some solid facts there.
|
And when Carl killed that prostitute there was blood there too, and when that bird pecked out the kids eyes, were you even watching?

I hated Topher* at the start of the series, but by the end I had quite a geniuscrush on him. :p *It's short for Christopher, see? EDIT: Didn't see the next page. Up = pretty good (by Pixar's standards); Cars = great, but not their best. Cars 2 I'm sure cannot help but be shite. |
i watched Adam & Paul, a very dark comedy about the day in the life of 2 Irish heroin addicts.
very interesting. actually, i loved it. its one of those films where you can't decide whether or not you enjoyed it until after you've watched it. it isn't on very long; just under 90 minutes, but a lot of surreal things happen in that time that force you to laugh. one scene that's stuck with me all bloody day, is a scene with a kid who had Down syndrome. the 2 junkies, who seem to be 'lovable rogues' at this point for being so unlucky and hapless, lead the aforementioned kid who's waiting for a bus into an alley looking for drug money. the person who plays the kid is brilliant and tells them repeatedly he has no money for them. they take his school bag and root through, throwing out books and pictures in the process. despite all this the kid offers what small money he has which is the bus fare home. one of the junkies knocks it out of his hand and walks off grumbling. the other one feels guilty but follows his friend anyway. the kid is then left standing in the alley, tears in his eyes. no physical harm is made, but fucking christ after that i hated the junkies. shows what the drugs were doing to them. i don't know why that's stuck with me but i felt so sorry for the kid. sorry. i think i've explained half the film, there. |
I lol'd pretty hard.
|
The Incredibles was mind-numbingly average.
I saw Mitchell & Webb's Magicians. It was pretty good, it certainly had That Mitchell And Webb Feel. I think Tony stole the show though. |
I just watched Predator.
IMO, they shouldn't have put that scene at the start of the Predator arriving on Earth, it would have made the rest of the film scarier. |
A movie with an over bearing score, an overly long run time, and several plot holes no matter how you interpret it. |
Just seen the last 8 Out of 10 Cats for this season. All women are called 'Sugar Tits' now.
|
Hitman.
why was this movie so negatively received? some new comedy arabic egyptian movie by an actor called Ahmed Helmy. |

I saw World's Greatest Dad. You should too. It's probably the best Robin Williams film he's made since...fuck, I don't know when. Since The Fisher King. |
Gilliam and Williams are overdue for another team-up.
Gilliam expressed interest in making a film adaptation of Pratchett and Gaiman's Good Omens, with Williams playing Aziraphale. Considering Gilliam's age and Hollywood's weariness of him, it probably won't happen. |
