but I wanted to see a fight scene with the Spanish at the end.

Total fucking anachronism.

Mac Sirloin 12-05-2009 07:30 PM

it gets better when it's not half naked people being ritualistically chopped up

so like a third of the movie is good.

It's a movie about ancient Mayan culture. You get what you pay for.

Land of the Lost. Not ashamed to admit, I chuckled. More than once.

I'm a big meanie and I used my cute Japanese mannerisms to force Joe to watch Zeta Gundam because I'm such a horrible meanie!

Wow you were right, Kamilie is a douche.

Also <3<3<3 Bright and Mr Notchar.

I thought it was hysterical. I don't know why everyone was pissing on it.

Because the show sucked?

slig# 5719 12-06-2009 11:06 AM

I watched some older films today:

"Ben - Hur", "The Robe" and "Gunfight at the O.K Corral"

MA 12-06-2009 11:11 AM

the chariot race in Ben Hur, brilliant stuff.

Yes it was. Gotta feel sorry for some of the racers, very painful looking.

Mac Sirloin 12-06-2009 02:52 PM

I saw Fantastic Mr. Fox. I liked it a lot, definitely something to see.

enchilado 12-06-2009 02:53 PM

I'd like to see that, even though from what I saw in the trailer the animation is dodgy :S

Leto 12-06-2009 03:01 PM

what are you a fucking film producer? it's stop motion for christ's sake

Taco 12-06-2009 03:02 PM

I'm about to watch V for Vendetta for the second time. Hoorah

enchilado 12-06-2009 03:06 PM

Yeah, it's stop motion. All I'm saying is it looked dodgy. I love stop motion. I'm saying it looked dodgy from what I saw in the trailer. I've read books on stop motion. It just looked a bit dodgy. I've even done a bit of (dodgy) stop motion. This just looked dodgy.

Mac Sirloin 12-06-2009 03:07 PM

It's not dodgy at all.

It's...remarkably good, actually.

enchilado 12-06-2009 03:10 PM

Okay, I'm in.

Leto 12-06-2009 03:15 PM

read books on stop motion, lolllll. classic.

enchilado 12-06-2009 03:45 PM

I've just seen *think think think* I saw *think think* it was a er um *think think think*

I haven't seen a movie for ages. Any recommendations?

MA 12-06-2009 03:54 PM

come on, now. you know that counts as annoying spam. edit some topical stuff into it.

watched A Simple Plan the other day. good film, nothing amazing, just good. ending seemed frustratingly rushed though. really wasn't enough time to reflect on his brother's death, and the effect on himself for doing it, at the very least. literally happened in the last 10 minutes. Billy Bob Thornton played a great role.

I love that film. You tend to appreciate it alot more when you realize how much of a step up it is from Sam Raimi's usual repertoire. Also Danny Elfman ftw.

I just watched Ghost Rider on TV. Terrible in every regard. Some seriously bad acting, and not just from Nicolas Cage. Awful script too, like the writer was using a corny one-liners thesaurus for reference. And as the whipped topping, the visual fx were very poor. Ghost Rider put his fingers in his mouth and whistled for his bike, he whistled ffs. Skeletons can't whistle. They can do alot, but they can't fucking whistle.

Actually, I'm with you. There is a lot of fantastic stop motion in the world; Coraline, Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpse Bride, not to mention more non-feature length stuff than you can poke a stick at.

The animation as represented in the trailer is not in that class. The camera is static, the characters are stiff and wooden and the animation is jerky. It's possible that it looks better in the final movie, but nothing about the trailer particularly makes me want to see it.

MA 12-06-2009 04:31 PM

Sekto: him again? i didn't think you liked Danny Elfman.

or was that someone else?

Sekto Springs 12-06-2009 04:37 PM

I love Elfman. He's my favorite contemporary composer.
I (selectively) hate Williams and Zimmer though.

@ Nate
Budget is a huge concern. Not all stop motion can be silky smooth. Take Wallace and Gromit for example, or pretty much anything by Nick Park. His style is typically more rough around the edges, but it's unmistakably stylized and it's content makes up for any failing in it's medium.

Nate 12-06-2009 04:40 PM

Give me Thomas Newman any day.

i, too, have seen this.

i want to unsee it.

Nate 12-06-2009 04:42 PM

It's pretty awesome for me (and, I suppose, Taco) to watch because it was shot in Melbourne and it's freaking hilarious to see local landmarks dressed up to be cities in the American mid-West. Also, local actors with crappy accents pretending to be hicks.

Sekto Springs 12-06-2009 04:46 PM

The Inspector Gadget film was shot in my city. I can assure you this does not make me hate the film any less.

This. His score to Oscar and Lucinda is beautiful.

Joe Hisaishi, Tan Dun, Ennio Morricone, Alexandre Desplat, Wojiech Kilar. Two of them are principally classical compsers too.
