you still haven't brought sexy back.

AvengingGibbons 12-24-2011 09:43 AM

I just beat Looten Duke (the water facility bad guy/gremlin), but I didnt get all his health down. I only got like half of it down, if that. And then all of a sudden, the camera zooms into my Stranger doing his victory spit. Could Looten Duke have fallen into one of the turbines in the ground? Or is it a glitch? or what?..

mrsmr2 12-24-2011 09:54 AM

Very possibly. That's the method that the game recommends.

I'm working on it. I've been spending a lot of time in the gym just so that I can bring sexy back to Oddworld Forums and the metro Detroit area.

Sekto Springs 12-24-2011 11:45 AM

I thought flabby and pale was considered sexy in Detroit. Knock out a few of your teeth and you'll be a real Adonis.

How are people finding capturing them alive on hard?

I gave up with Looten Duke. The stamina regen is so much faster now.
I know the perfect strategy you can use to kill Luten Duke on hard mode in a snap, I believe, but I'd need to make a video to explain it all first. The video will be on the old game, but I'm pretty positive that it'll be the same in HD version, so I'll get to that right now!

Edit: Okay, then: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aECV8M-c6tE
My dog was being annoying at the time, so please just ignore the barking!
With boombats, Luten Duke is a peace of cake to capture him dead or alive.

mrsmr2 12-26-2011 01:38 AM

Ah, but that's using your god like powers to get boombats early - and on the original version.

Even when you do get them I tried them on Boilz and Meagly and still couldn't capture them alive. The stamina regen on Hard is a million miles away from the original - the blue bar fills up almost as fast as you can fire.

I wonder if I need to charge into them first, or punch, and then use weapons - or combinations of those things.

Phantasos 12-26-2011 04:19 AM

There is something that's beginning to annoy me about the HD version.

All the save files just have 'progress' written across them, you have to wait till the file temporarily opens before you can see which region you're in and what difficulty you're on.

I suppose it's a limitation of the PS3 and there's little they can do about it, but it's something the xbox version did have and I was very thankful for.

AvengingGibbons 12-26-2011 04:20 AM

i have a problem.. you know the level where you have a timer? I quicksaved and i dont have enough time to get to the end before the timer runs out.. how do i restart back to the previous checkpoint? My previous save game file is from hours ago... anyone help?

mrsmr2 12-26-2011 04:52 AM

Not sure about the saves, sorry. I always have multiple saves so I can revisit certain sections.

Have you just tried sprinting the whole way and not engaging in any battles? I'm assuming you're in the second act and things are blowing up?

Michael 12-26-2011 05:33 AM

On a different note (I hope you won't mind me adding this here) I just wanted to say that whilst the game was fantastic and ran perfectly for the most part, I experienced audio issues throughout. The music, and perhaps more noticeably the Clakker and Grub voices (when you speak to them) frequently cut out. With the music, it would just stop completely, then begin again shortly after. With the voices, I found that they would just stop mid sentence, and the character would walk off. Not too big a deal of course, though I was just curious to see if anyone else experienced this?

Lastly, (and a very minor thing!) If I remember correctly the 'Go organic' trophy for catching Meagly McGraw actually says 'Bounty Packrat Palooka' in it's description. I don't know if a patch could solve these, but just thought I'd bring it to people's attention :)

Ahh, see there's a problem with this quicksave feature. :/

Am I mistaken in thinking that on the Xbox there was an option for going back to the last checkpoint, or not?

Phantasos 12-26-2011 05:44 AM

Nice find, Michael. I'm also experiencing minor problems with characters walking off in mid-sentence, as well as the music randomly changing, however the majority of such instances were in and around Gizzard Gulch.

That's strange, the problems I had only became really consistent from New Yolk City onwards :fuzconf: Definitely more so towards the end of the game for me. I would have thought if it were an issue with the downloaded game it would have been happening in the same place. Perhaps it's a PS3 issue? I upgraded to a 320GB Slim recently because my original 60GB broke

Well, I'll have you know that I just beat McBoomboom, went back to town for some chit chat, and was rudely ignored yet again...

I guess it's a consistent problem throughout and I was just lucky not to experience the glitch from Gizzard Gulch to New Yolk City.

AvengingGibbons 12-26-2011 06:33 AM

Just completed Stranger's Wrath HD, the first time i've ever played any rendition of the game :)... was slightly confused by the ending... Who's that old 'guy' in the other guys clothes? And why was he in the other guy's clothes?

I was also slightly pissed off when that guy had been hanged coz i was hoping he'd get the job done. I worked overtime believing it would happen.. but, oh no, that's him there hanging on that rope.. -_-

The old guy was the last Steef before Stranger. He was captured by Sekto (the other guy) who is a parasitic Octigi who then used the old Steef's body as his host body.

There is a problem where only so many sounds can play at once. Hence, if some Clakker off in the distance starts talking, an already-talking Clakker is liable to have to stop, even if it's you he's talking to. That said, I thought this had already been fixed. Something else to check on.

The problem with the music is due to the differences between the original XACT and the current FMOD. XACT had a lot of features that SW took advantage of for its dynamic soundtrack. Not sure if this is being worked on.

Yeah, someone caught that the instant the trophy lists were published. It's not a big thing, it'll get fixed in a patch.

Funny... this was a bug in the original game, but we never spotted it on PS3. Nor did at least three separate QA teams. Hmm. Is the problem that no Clakkerz are talking at all, not to Stranger nor to each other?

It's the old Steef! Sekto had been controlling his body.

AvengingGibbons 12-26-2011 09:57 AM

Ohhhh. haha.. i thought sekto had just clothed a steef he'd found in a retirement home, or something like that.. Yeah, your version sounds much better. ^^

(I probably would have realised straight away, but a few weeks ago I was looking at an oddworld encyclopedia, which was saying that sekto is part of the same species that glukkons are part of, so I assumed he had the same long stick arm-leggies under that suit. That's where my confusion came from... I'm not stupid, honest..)

The animation for a conversation initiating started, (both Stranger and the Clakker turned to face one another) yet nothing was spoken, there was a notable space where something perhaps was meant to have been spoken for about 5 seconds, however the Clakker turned around and walked off.

I'm afraid I can't recall whether or not other Clakkerz were clucking around in the distance, sorry :(

mrsmr2 12-26-2011 10:26 AM

Main complaint from me is the cutting out of voices, and audio. Not a major issue, just takes the shine off. EDIT: I've never heard another voice either which could be the cause - maybe it's too far to hear.

Don't see the issue with the save game 'progress' message. Once you know you can go through the saves one by one and the get the right information, it's not a problem. This version provides more information than the original so it's actually a better feature.

You may not have necessarily heard them speak. They're programmed to stop and shoot the breeze with each other whether they're within ear shot or not. It doesn't sound like a very complex problem to fix though. I'm sure the patch will rectify any such audio errors.

AvengingGibbons 12-26-2011 10:30 AM

I definately noticed it in New Yolk City, coz i needed to ask for info, and everytime i asked for info, they'd begin talking to me, then some stupid bitch chicken would interupt and be saying something to Mr Chicken like asking him what he wanted cooking for tonight's dinner.. something useless anyway..

Bodd T.W. 12-26-2011 07:22 PM

I remember that if you listen to the Grubs long enough in the first Grub village you encounter after saving Eu Genius, (or however his name was spelled :/) you can hear them talking to you as if you're already a Steef (I mainly just remember them calling you "Steef Dude.") Has anyone noticed that in the HD version? I might post a video of that tomorrow if I must. :?

Wil 12-27-2011 02:11 AM

I think the more videos you post, the more we learn about the game.

mrsmr2 12-27-2011 03:29 AM

Boo, game just froze up on me as I left the tunnel and camp area to arrive in Mongo Valley. Music was playing with a blank screen, had to switch off using the console off button.

EDIT: when I selected 'continue' the game continued at the start of mongo valley (with signs to New Yolk) after the rockfall. So I didn't get to see the cut scene before that.

Not going so well with capturing the outlaws alive on hard. I think Packrat is possible because his stamina does not regenerate at the crazy rate the earlier ones do. However, I ran out of thudslugs which is a side effect of my ''no upgrades" run.

DesertBuzzard 12-27-2011 03:36 AM

The audio issues could actually be heard in the gameplay videos. I wanted to mention them but then I didn't. That happens to me a lot.

DarkHoodness 12-27-2011 05:55 AM

I still think JAW should hire Bodd T.W. as a beta tester. I wonder if it's possible to do that job remotely.

Paul_hibs3 12-27-2011 08:53 AM

Strangers Wrath HD thoughts....AMAZING! 9.5/10. I've never played Strangers Wrath only played AO and AE on playstation so was buzzing on it arriving on PSN.

First started to play it thought sigh this is gonna be not worth the wait with the tutorial start. But that is a stupid and naive thought looking back. Game is brillant. (I haven't completed it fully, I've just left the first town and met the doctor and took out the bounty on the shotgun guy shooting the town up.) The world is so much cooler than AO and AE, due to its big open world. I'm not a big fan of gaming music but its really cool. To me its a must buy brilliant definatley worth the wait. It's like Spyro meets Assassins creed, both brilliant games as is this. Really excited for MO HD for PSN. :D

P.S How do you capture a boss alive because I take as much health as I can away from the boss then try to capture alive but they just shoot like normal and break free from the web and then I shoot them once more or so and they are dead. Only been able to capture 3/5 bosses but the other 2 were the later ones. Cheers

mrsmr2 12-27-2011 09:28 AM

Bolamites only work on 2 bosses (and the very first one). For the rest, you have to run the stamina bar down quicker than the health bar.

I won't spoil it by telling you which weapons are the best for that.
