Hey Sekto, I had another go at the slig pants tonight, heres what its like so far, let me know what you think.

Sekto Springs 01-23-2012 01:08 PM

The exhaust port on the back looks pretty great, nowtun.
What more do you plan on adding to the model? I want to know where you plan to take it before I give you any notes.

nowtun 01-23-2012 01:17 PM

thanks
I'm yet to add the hydraulics to the thighs and lower legs but I think thats it for the pants. Any suggestions for what I'm forgetting?

Sekto Springs 01-23-2012 03:38 PM

I'm not a fan of the loop at the "waist" of the pants. I'd like to see a version without it. Also, would it be possible to render them out matte instead of glossy? Glossy tends to distract from the model's shape.

Thanks :)

nowtun 01-23-2012 05:18 PM

yeah sorry bout that
hows this one?

Sekto Springs 01-23-2012 07:03 PM

Cool. Keep up the good work, nowtun :)

Sekto Springs 02-01-2012 07:58 AM

Bumping up the thread. Anyone have anything to show me?
Once I'm confident that I have some reliable resources at hand, I'm going to reveal the nature of this short film and what it entails.

AvengingGibbons 02-01-2012 02:13 PM

I havent worked on the glukpud since I showed you (actually that's not true, i made adjustments, but still only have a rough sketch of his head). It's coz i downloaded zbrush trial and was going to try continuing the model in zbrush, but i need to learn how to use it first, it looks really complicated :S I have a week off work next week, so hopefully i'll be able to motivate myself into looking through the zbrush video tutorials and get to work on the glukpud again

nowtun 02-01-2012 03:01 PM

nothing since, sorry mate. i spent the weekend getting my vid finished and up online, im gunna get back to it on the weekend, promise.

nowtun 02-07-2012 03:34 PM

He doesn't have the cables connecting mask to the rest metal parts. If I was you, I'd make also minor changes to the mask part, to make it look more sinister (aka sharp edges like on http://images.wikia.com/oddworld/images/2/23/Slig.jpg ) - beside these two, it's great

EDIT: Just noticed that in the picture I posted slig's mouth tentacles end much sharpier :)

nowtun 02-08-2012 11:17 AM

thanks for the pointer varrok.

i left out the pipes for now cuz i dont really know where they connect to the pants, so i was leaving them untill i knew for definite.

well spoted about the tentacles, cant believe i forgot to sharpen them hehe

@nowtun nice work on the slig matey :)

I've been messing around with zBrush this evening, discovering things, watching video tutorials, I'll see what I can make of the glukpud tomorrow (hopefully).

(Sorry for the double post, but I need to bump the thread..)

Do any of you artists know of a website similar to how youtube/soundcloud/deviantart works where you can showcase simple live 3d models? It'd be a lot cooler to post a 3D model rather than images of a 3D model.

LauricGK 02-15-2012 06:37 AM

To make money with it or just to show your skills ?
For the first case, turbosquid.com etc etc (google is your friend)
And the second, 3dvf.com is the best in french, so you may prefer something like cgarena.com or cgsociety.com (a lot of 3D but not only)

I hope I correctly understood your question :)

Any tips or suggestions? It just shows what I've got so far. I've restarted it like 5 times x).. I'm getting better I think.. I havent really added any detail yet, just still trying to get the overall shape right. It would help if I knew what sort of personality this glukpud has..

ps. How's the spacing between the eyes look to you? imo theyre maybe too far apart.

@LaurikGK I'm talking about a 3D model that you can rotate inside the browser.

Wow, guys! Great work!

Nowtun, love the slig, man! Can't wait to see what you add. Sharpening up the tentacles and mask would be a good idea. As for the pipes, you may not have to include them, as they might just be a bother while animating, but I'll leave that up to you. :)

I would definitely flatten the mask a little bit near the top, as it looks like it sticks out too far from the front. The mask should look taut against the slig's noggin.

AG, the glukkon looks great!
The shape looks good, and I think the spacing between the eyes is fine. Despite the very broad brow, you still managed to a touch of sadness in his face, which I love. Being a pud, I wanted him to look a bit like a loser. :p

As for details, I want him to be a slightly younger glukkon, so don't go too crazy on the wrinkles. Just put them where it counts. Make sure his eyelids are nice and crisp, so they can accommodate blinking animation. When you add his ear flutes, don't make them too long, but make sure they have a nice "trumpet" shape.

For the back of his head, I wanted him to be reminiscent of the original Stephen Olds glukkon...

http://oddworldlibrary.net/archives/...O/CAAO0008.jpg

Notice the ridges and the little "polyps" near the bottom. It looks very much like the underside of a whale covered in barnacles.

Something like that. The more character you put in his face the better. When we're working with limited resources like this, it helps if the model is already as detailed as possible. We can cover up a lot with skins, but the less "painting" we have to do, the better.

Can't wait to see what else you guys have in store for me! I'll be revealing the nature of this short film soon.

LauricGK 02-15-2012 09:23 AM

Complicated AG. I don't know any website like that, sorry !

oh my god this looks like me lol

great work on the glukkon head by the way, cant wait to see the rest of him

Sekto Springs 03-31-2012 07:56 AM

Alright guys, I'm calling it.
I'm starting production on this video in about a month, with or without the models you fans have offered to provide. If you want to see your work in the spotlight, now's the time to get it done!

As such, it would be prudent of me to finally tell you guys what this short film is about.

It's an Oddworld game show called "Name That Trauma!", based on an early concept that was ultimately never used in the final games. Mudokon slaves are tortured behind curtains and the contestants have to guess the means in which they're being tortured.
In case you haven't figured it out yet, the Slig with the suit and tie is the host.

The Glukkon pud is one of the contestants, and the only non-Slig competitor. He's just starting out in the business world, and is trying to win some money to get himself off the ground.

For the most part, the short film will be CG game show craziness. At the half-mark, the show will be cut by a commercial break, which will consist of live action footage of myself and others advertising Vykkers Labs and RuptureFarms products, not to mention, the Oddworld games themselves.

When the video is complete (which wont be for a few months at the least), I plan on showing it to Lorne, using Xmobb. I had a chat with him on Facebook about it and he was very supportive. You will all be credited for your contributions to the final video, if you finish them that is. ;)

If that's not motivation enough, I'm not sure what is.

If anyone else has any talents they think they can offer, the position is still open, the more work you guys do the less the TritinFilms staff has on their plate, and the quicker the video will get made. Specifically, I need a good environmental artist.

Lauric, I'm looking at you.

Varrok 03-31-2012 10:35 AM

It's not much of surprize, one could guess that from the slig artwork. Still a good idea, though :)

LauricGK 04-04-2012 07:23 AM

If days were 72h instead of 24, I'd probably work with you !

I'm really running out of time, sorry :/

I'm really running out of time, sorry :/

I'd be willing to accommodate your schedule any way I can, even if it meant waiting a few more months. Even a low poly construct would be a good start, my team is pretty good at filling in the blanks.

STM 04-09-2012 01:51 PM

Maybe money might be the grease for the wheels.

Sekto Springs 04-09-2012 07:11 PM

If I had money to pay people, I'd pay people who actually do this for a living. I'm giving fans an opportunity to be involved here, and I'm sticking my neck out to collaborate with amateurs. Like I said, if nobody here has something substantial for me within a month, then I probably will just end up paying some people to do it. :p

LauricGK 04-10-2012 02:22 AM

Personally, money is not at all my "grease for the wheels"
All I've done about oddworld stuffs is deep passion

It's just that I really don't have the time. I sware ! I couldn't do it even if you pay me, so that's not the question ;) but thanks again for your proposal, it's very nice ;)

You should try to find some people on others forums (if you still do not find here) more specialised, in 3d for example, be sure you'll find what you need :) We'll be standing here for any support !

Sekto Springs 04-13-2012 08:39 PM

I was wondering if I could perhaps use your amazing flying slig, Lauric. I'd love to involve your work in this project somehow. So if you can't do something custom, I'd love to use something you've already put the effort into :)
