I love the Boardroom. I like the boiler part (the final level) in Abe's Exoddus better though, Its way more harder and intense then the boardroom.

Rincewynd 11-20-2005 01:06 AM

To be honest my favourite part of it was the first time you use it, with all those sligs, it looked so cool with explosions etc. Muahahahaha many happy chuckles out of that. (Although theboardroom did look cool, sadly you dont get to see it, what with the speed you have to press the buttons :()

:

And don't worry about spoilers anymore, Rince. AO is over 10 years old.

Ah ok just if people never played before I thought it might ruin the game, but 10 years you say?....Doesn't seem that long.......Meh!

Havoc 11-20-2005 02:53 AM

I know, time sure goes fast doesn't it? ;)

If you want to see the boardroom sometime, it's the last image on this page:
http://vgmaps.com/Atlas/PSX/Oddworld-Abe'sOddysee-RuptureFarms-BoardRoom.png

It isn't a very big image, but still the best you can get.

The Dark Mudokon 11-21-2005 04:53 AM

I think OWI should have made a special Xbox cd with AO and AE on it.It would have cost like 20 or 30 bucks,or they could have ptu it in bundle with Munch or Stranger.

Wil 11-21-2005 05:00 AM

Why bother? It's hardly standard videogame industry practice, and would probably only have been bought by fans, and even then only if it came packaged with something fresh - as Lorne keeps noting, the gaming environment has changed. People don't want platformers any more.

metroixer 11-21-2005 05:29 AM

^ That is indeed a very sad and painful truth max. Platformers are replaced with these FPS and RPG's. Sure I like some but it just makes me angry thinking about it .

Nate 11-21-2005 08:39 AM

Strictly speaking, people didn't want platformers when AO came out either.

Cullen Heath 11-21-2005 08:41 AM

Im sorry but, what are Platformers?

Do you mean like 2D?

Wil 11-21-2005 09:50 AM

I don't know about that. Just off the top of my head, 1997 was the release of Tomb Raider 2, which was quite a popular platformer. It's certainly true that 2D platformers weren't in demand.

Cullen, a platformer is any game whose primary gameplay is the navigation of series of platforms and obstacles/enemies.

Xavier 11-21-2005 10:39 AM

actually Lorne said that 2D platformers weren't "in" at the moment of AO's release

Cullen Heath 11-21-2005 05:16 PM

Ok thanks. If Lorne said 2D platformers werent in at that time, Why did he make one?

Nate 11-21-2005 06:27 PM

Because back then he didn't care what the market thought. He did his own thing and was proved right. He went 2d because he thought that the 3d technology wasn't yet good enough to create a world rich enough to fulfill his vision.

The Dark Mudokon 11-22-2005 12:32 PM

He was damn right!Even though they weren't 3D,AO and AE were great!Players just don't appreciate old concepts like they should.Sure, new games are fun,but taking old concepts like 2D platforms and putting some on new consoles would not be bad.2D platforms still has it fans!

Rincewynd 11-22-2005 12:36 PM

Me being a one of them! I love platformers, they are so much easier to control, and it is far cooler to veiw because you can see infront behind above below all at the same time, and it is simple to add puzzles etc. (although the reason I am a fan is probably because I couldn't stop playing them :D)

Cullen Heath 11-22-2005 03:22 PM

I think it would be brilliant if Lorne made another 2D game, just with better graphics and harder challenges on the 360. I would play it all day every day!

metroixer 11-22-2005 04:24 PM

^ Meh that would be a waste of money since many people will be turned off seeing it's 2D. On a side note who got the 360?

Cullen Heath 11-22-2005 06:33 PM

No, I mean VERY NICE 2D graphics, bassicly 3D but it has that nice little 2D touch.

Kimon 11-22-2005 06:59 PM

^Wouldn't sell, sawrea.^

Platformers can be 3-D, you know.

Cullen Heath 11-22-2005 07:12 PM

Yeah your correct, it would only sell to true Oddworld fans.

Nate 11-22-2005 09:39 PM

That could describe AO and AE to a 'T'. It still wouldn't sell, unfortunately.

Cullen Heath 11-22-2005 10:48 PM

I know, only fans would buy it. Wouldnt it be cool to have a Munch's Oddysee in 2D though? I think that would be so cool to see Munch in 2D!

Xavier 11-23-2005 02:08 AM

I don't agree, 2D today would be suicide, except if it's at a very low price, but then they wouldn't make much profit.

On the other hand OWI has alway claimed to be an 3D oriented studio, the fact they did 2D games at first was because 3D didn't look pretty back in time.

Cullen Heath 11-23-2005 06:58 AM

Yes, but don't you think it would be cool to see Munch(not Munch's Oddysee, Munch himself)have to do all those hard problems Abe had to go through?

I know it would not make that much money, Im just saying it would be cool.

Oddish 11-23-2005 07:13 AM

Oddworld always have fresh new ideas, that's what makes then alive and keep on going. They're not the type of company that would remake a game with similarity with the same ideas, unless they realy wanted to. They are an innovative developer.

The Dark Mudokon 11-23-2005 08:19 AM

I think OWI could make a bonus 2D Munch game that could be bundled with a special edition of their next game. You would have the 360 with the latest Oddworld game and the Munch side-adventure game! That would be a dream pack,I tell you!

Cullen Heath 11-23-2005 08:29 AM

Thats exactly what I mean, just a little fun something.

The Dark Mudokon 11-23-2005 08:40 AM

Like I said,OWI could take some time between two games to make a bundle.Like, for the AO/AE disc, they wouldn't need to arrange anything on the games that would take too much time.Just make a conversion and put it as a bonus with a new game. And the Munch side-adventure would not be a bad idea, too. If they could make Oddworld games for the Game Boy Color, why don't they take the time for another 2D game? They just need to bundle it with their next game!

OANST 11-23-2005 08:44 AM

OI didn't make those gameboy games. They just gave nintendo permission to make them.

The Dark Mudokon 11-23-2005 08:46 AM

Sorry,my mistake.Still, the packs I talked about would still be great!

Nate 11-23-2005 10:17 AM

I think Munch as a side-scroller would be a mistake. I mean, Munch's controls were irritating enough as it is (except for when he was in the water) so restricting them to two dimensions would just make it more noticable.

The Dark Mudokon 11-23-2005 10:21 AM

Well, you got a point here.Munch control's were bad,so a game with Munch alone would be troubles, because in MO,Abe was as important as Munch.Munch practically depended on Abe to advance.

Cullen Heath 11-23-2005 09:32 PM

Maybe Munch could always be in a wheelchair or Abe could carry him.

Nate 11-24-2005 10:43 AM

Even with the wheelchair, munch's moves are too limited for a platform game, particularly as he can't jump very high.

Wil 11-24-2005 10:59 AM

Of all the things that irritated me when playing through Munch's Oddysee, Munch's controls did it the least. It's more a case of finding it incredibly dull to try and get him from one end of the level to the next, but then MO did that always. I even got bored of watching the camera swivel whenever I jumped in a well - that never happened in the first games. MO was just a slow game that lacked excitement. Being chased by a herd of Scrabs just turns out to be dull.

In principle, I like the idea of having to use two separate characters tactically, but it does actually double all the tedious travelling around in a game.

Cullen Heath 11-24-2005 11:48 AM

I really LOVED Munch's Oddysee. I liked how you could run around being chased by Scrabs, because that way you can lead them into bombs and do all sorts of exiting things.

LoboDiabloLoneWolf 11-24-2005 12:53 PM

:

At least in the newer games a slight error didn't cost you your life.

Oh I liked that in AO and AE, it made me more wary actually. But I hated it when Abe didn't jump at a crucial moment and you got eaten by Scrabs :fuzemb: but it was still fun...ina twisted kinda way...:D

:

It's even more anoying if you quicksave just before you get killed

Urg that happened to me on the 2nd disc, had to start all over again...but I did it! :D
