Interesting, but not exactly enlightening. I think that this is what you call a practical joke people.

Rock bands in the 60's and 70's did this all the time for shits and giggles so Michael Bross must have decided to get in on the gig. It's probably his voice anyway, not Lorne's.

So let's not read too much into this and go crazy with wild accusations of brainwashing.

Indeedy. If you reverse 'Another One Bites The Dust', it states " It's fun to smoke marijuana.".

I am yet to compare the actual game shtuff, but I'll wait until Xavier uploads them. I can't be stuffed ripping it from the game... Far too much effort for the holidays.

I still think it's sounds rather blibbley if reversed... But I'll halt my opinions until I can back them up with evidence.

Gretin 04-25-2005 11:08 PM

I think the one that Facsimile has posted is the adjusted one, they changed it to make it clearer what he says. If you go to the thread and download the first one in it, it doesn't sound so clear.

All it is is a change in volume... :p

Gretin 04-26-2005 02:57 AM

I don't think it's quite that simple, I think it might just be a fiddle with an equalizer of some sort, just changing the volume of certain frequencies. I could be wrong of course, but I'm sure the second one is more than just amplification.

Seargentbig 04-26-2005 04:07 AM

Damn! I heard this the first time I saw this cutscene, and figured it was backwards talking, and filed it away so I could consider it later...
...but I forgot. I didn't do anything about it after that. Maybe it was swept away by me playing the game...

Wil 04-27-2005 12:11 PM

:

No no no, I heard it, and it sounded backwards, so I was gonna post if anyone could rip the sound and play it backwards. That's what someone did for a clip in Halo 2.

I get you. ;) Consider my above sarcasm now defunct.

It could be a practical joke, but it could be a more serious minded easter egg. We know Sherry is against organised religion, and OWI are more than likely completely against this Religious Right thing. The same goes for the mass media. It's sounds like OWI's philosophies through and through.

EDIT: Cort's recording has been uploaded to TOE. Right click here to download. Thanks Cort - the extended message really adds to it. ‘Seige’, now where have I heard that before relating to OWI?

Yes, but it's not like there's a secret plan to brainwash us into agreement with the Oddworld ethos, which is what some of the more paranoid members were implying.

Brainwashed??
How could anyone be brainwashed by unintelligible droning that requires outside
programs to rip and replay it ?
This is not subliminal it`s original form ,it`s gibberish.

Leto 04-27-2005 05:51 PM

OK, the rip is definatley convincing, compared to the previous altered sample. Consider my previous statements taken back.

*cough*

A lot of people beleive that you can be brainwashed by subliminal messages, even if you can't understand them at a conscious level. Plenty of metal bands have been sued for having phrases like "go and commit suicide" played backwards in their songs. So when a kid commits suicide their parents say that it *must* be because of the brainwashing and not just that they are crap parents who couldn't realise when their kids are crying out for help.

.

Yea, i am with you there, but my point is that the backwards message is not
subliminal itself. The message must be understandable in it`s own right to have
any sway on the stream of consciousness.
If the statments were played at low volume, or greatly sped up, or slowed down,
and played under the games audio track, than that would be subliminal.
If your subconscious can take a reversed string of words, played off tempo,
and render the correct meaning, your a better dog than i.

And as for that Judas Priest thing, the trial was about" hidden messages"
not backward recordings. ;)

Leto 04-27-2005 10:10 PM

'Hidden messages' *wink, wink* can be backwards messages. Backwards messages are commonly hidden, no? ;)

And the Judas Priest thing just reminds me of Bill Hicks... :p

Voodoo Hand 04-28-2005 04:19 AM

Wrong again

Looks like i am wrong again. There are studies that that have found that some
of the population can decode reversed phrases subconsciously, but not all of us.
How strange !

The transcripts from the Judas Priest trial state the two clowns in question
" drank beer, smoked marijuana , and listened to the album Stained Class for SEVEN OR EIGHT HOURS."

Jesus Christ on a crutch!! if i had to listen to Rob Halford yodel on and on for seven hours they would need to call a SWAT Team on me. :banghead: :flames:

Wil 04-30-2005 10:10 AM

I didn't spot that anyone was seriously implying OWI had resorted to brainwashing, but then it is tricky to judge tone over the Internet. To demonstrate, I will type the following:-

:

It gets weirder than that : did you know that everything we say actually contains reverse messages which reveal what we actually believe and how we truely feel? It's true!

Or am I missing some vital irony?

People don't always say what they truly mean.

Nate 05-01-2005 07:47 PM

...But we generally know what we mean to say. Whereas Max is saying that we can reveal our true meaning unintentionally backwards, which makes no sense to me.

So in the future, please don't try and answer a question specifically directed to someone else.

Wil 05-02-2005 11:01 AM

It's satire.

Nate 05-02-2005 07:47 PM

Heh, that's pretty funny Max

Blisterz Booty 05-02-2005 08:19 PM

The video that Cort put sounds real. But that thing about reversed speech, sounds like a crock-of-bull.

big bro boogie 05-04-2005 11:43 AM

The message in the intro, in fact, could be Lornes.
Whoever's got the pre-order dvd, and good software should try and play with Lornes voice.
It rocks.

Nate 05-04-2005 06:45 PM

I don't think it sounds like Lorne at all (or even Lorne putting on a voice). Which is why I think Michael Bross did it, to set the mood with some creepy backwards voices.

yeah, indeed, sorry i intended Bross, but i forgot who did the boombat voice.
my head was disordered yesterday.
i'll try investigate a little more on this.

I'm not sure but yall must have noticed the voices at the movie where Munch is getting rolled away to Humpfrey. Are they backwards too, or are they plain blah blah?

Godlesswanderer 05-05-2005 04:22 PM

If someone can get the sound from that cut scene maybe someone can find out.

Xavier 05-06-2005 01:27 PM

it's allready available here:

Statikk HDM 05-06-2005 01:53 PM

I think that a planted or recorded message is definately a possibility, and it jives with Lanning ultra-leftist stance. Didn't Lanning say that he wanted to an violent historical science fiction take on what would happen if the U.S. was taken over by martial law by a religious fanatic/fascist?

What they're saying, which I only realised after Alf told me, is "If you could save my life, I'd meet you by the lamppost baby"

I'd be buggered if I can work out why, though.

Xavier 05-09-2005 12:01 PM

what is that supposed to mean?

Darkgore 05-10-2005 07:05 AM

Just so you know, you missed the first part of this message.
It goes:
"Nation of fools, a nation under siege, dont trust the corporate media, the religious right is insane"

The "Nation of fools" part is the toughest to hear since the music is louder at that part. If anyone wants me to send them a copy of the full message, let me know. I dont have a site to upload it to.

Just up your volume so you can hear it.

T-nex 05-10-2005 07:24 AM

OMG! That's really really creepy O.o

Anyways, i'd like the full message...

Eeeee! I smell Citizen Siege! Er, yeh. Maybe Citizen Siege is going to be on this 'new media' creature. Hmm...

Xavier 05-12-2005 06:11 AM

I think abe would be better to start in the "new media" storm, people are allready used to him and his is nearly an icon. On the other hand something totally fresh could be better. I can already hear some people telling things such as: "Abe gping to hollywood, another crappy film of a video game". Both have good and bad sides
